Sleepless

I lay awake once again
Unable to clear my head.
I wish this storm of thoughts would cease,
And allow me to go to bed.

I dream about the future.
I reminisce about the past.
I think about things I could have done.
A funny thought crosses my mind and makes me laugh.

I try to comprehend the vastness of space,
And speculate about aliens.
I theorize about time travel
And what was there before time began.

I try to count some sheep
But they mull around so fast.
I lose track and have to start over.
How much time has past?

I think I figured out why we have wisdom teeth,
Where Atlantis may be, any why we end prayers with Amen.
I paint a picture in my mind.
Then erase it, and paint it once again.

I do everything but sleep.
Then I wonder why we even need to.
Imagine everything we could accomplish if we didn't.
Probably nothing, just like I do.

Clipped

it is not raining
yet the sky seems like
a tall waterfall

bones crack
under the weight of falling water
if I crane my head up
my eyesight get washed away

as a kid
drowning in a lake
the sky not the water held me down
the water was trying to push me up

the sky turns your mind to rock
just another falling rock

All wings falter
nuts and bolts come loose
seams open
despite daily inspections
you begin to rattle

Like when kayaking
I flew over the edge of a waterfall

the gravity of light-weight mountains
can send you plunging

yet it is in our very nature
to spread tinfoil wings
hope and theorize

The Dream

In 1963, Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.
What he asked for should not have been a far reach.
Dr. King was rather unique
And boy did he like to speak
He spoke on equality and racism
And spread his message through activism
He was one of the most prominent activists during the Civil Rights Movement.
He was hoping for enlightenment
He led nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience
Based on his years of experience
Dr. King was against discrimination and Jim Crow laws
They didn’t align with his cause
For this, the FBI deemed him a radical
That just wasn’t practical
He won a Nobel Peace Prize for combatting racial inequality
A major step for civil rights in American polity
In 1968, Martin Luther King met his demise
His assassination led some to theorize
Would he be surprised to how little we have come
Or would he be thankful for improving equality some

I hate to see immigrants used as pawns,
driven in buses, dropped on people’s lawns.
It seems so easy to pontificate,
but sh*t gets real with people at your gate.
I feel for Texas and the border states;
I feel for those who get in line and wait.
I feel for refugees driven by force.
For sanctuary towns, I’ve less remorse.
Easy to sip tea on the ivy’d green
and theorize on problems, sight unseen.
So Abbot and DeSantis brought it home;
it’s time the east coast learns this on their own.
The policy must go from open, wide,
to limiting the numbers let inside.
True, immigrants have made our nation great,
but now, both sides use them to fuel more hate.

Prime Lens

If you’re a carpenter,
You can fix it with a hammer and nail
If you’re a captain,
You can get there with a crew and a sail
If you’re the warden,
You can lock it up inside of a jail

Everybody got a solution
Nobody possibly wrong
I’d love to jump to a conclusion
But the distance is too damn long

If you’re an analyst,
You can lay it down on your couch
If you’re an activist,
You need only march and shout
If you’re an anarchist,
Go on and burn the city down

Everybody got a solution...

Biased perspectives --
Hidden objectives --
Static images in a prime lens
Our various stances
Across the same plane
Decide how each ray of light bends

If you’re a scientist,
You can theorize and postulate;
If a Creationist,
We been kicked outta the garden by fate
A sado-masochist?
Should be no problem keeping a date
I’m no romanticist --
I’m too old to stay up this late

Everybody see the solution
Nobody possibly wrong
I’d love to jump to a conclusion
But the distance is too damn long

I Square

They’re on the march again
Cool jerk protesting
has turned into
hip-hop stylus skipping

That same delusional dream
make you wanna ...
make you wanna
Make you wanna
keep a time capsule sleeping

Demockcrysieze favorite patronized people
are on the march once more
Their circular logic
is the insomnia same as it was sixty years before —
Shuffling along,
dancing predictably
to the same old Triple color cloth con threescore

That imaginary dream
continue to march
to an alternate reality drumbeat
As their civil rights keep auto-repeat
get trampled on con-stitutionally

I square
for the life of me,
those jitter bugging, ballot blind people
don’t wanna see
the root cause
that makes them so half-stepping feeble

I dawn surmise,
woke theorize
Dem marching orders
is what make King mocking birds of pray
suppressed vote sing

Harmony

life with words
a poet paints

from the road I pondered
observing harmony’s Monet
man and beast at peace comingled
in spring’s release this day

marvelous is the world of wonders
displayed in earthly gardens
celebrating season's change
rejuvenating pardons

flora fauna along waltz with man
acknowledging the other
infringing secretly
from covert cover

creatures even creepy crawlers
harmonize in compromise
cooperate survive the day
socialize and revitalize

fortunate was I this day
to realize
mankind may coexist
as others theorize

life with words
a poet paints

I'M Only Human

Should I come this way again, I wonder what I would see, who would I find left.
If the seasons were the same would the visions and the images remain as they are, does anything or anyone remain, unchanged?

Or would all be erased, eradicated by both time and the eruptive expanses of both man and earth?

Beneath the layers of sand and and dirt would my bones be ground beneath the centuries lost and forgotten? Would the scientists theorize some alien species implanted my DNA here upon this world eons ago? And foolishly would they still venture out into space seeking other worlds and beings when they are incapable of securing peace down here on earth with their own?

The human experience is incomplete and yet we struggle and search continually
for something else, always more, unawares, disregarding what we have here and are yet to see and fully find.

Should I come this way again
would I be able to find me?

Ruby

When I was young, my class was filled
With Lindas, Donnas, Sues.
Our parents mostly stuck to names
Quite common when they’d choose.

But each few years the choices change
And certain names just stick,
Becoming those that moms and dads
Will very likely pick.

The latest female moniker
I’ve heard, to my surprise,
Is Ruby and I’ve heard it thrice
And so I theorize…

That other gems might make the scene
Like Topaz, Jade or Pearl,
A glittering selection for
A brand-new baby girl.

Life For Later

We leave our life for later,
And hope that tomorrow comes.
We leave our love for later,
And hope that somebody comes.
.
Is that somebody a magician,
Rich person, President or God?
In Russia we have simple saying -
Pray, but don't keep sitting on your butt.
.
The Angels laugh at us from heaven.
Without knowing what will come
We're making plans, but we don't follow,
And then surprised by outcome.
.
We may have money, love, desire
Today, just maybe not in view.
Tomorrow may be filled with snow,
Lost moments, sayings - "if I knew".
.
But we don't know our future.
It's So Wise, I can't believe -
We loose our memories at birth,
So we can "play" with All to give.
.
Thus, little smarty, don't you know,
That our life is not to sit and theorize.
The keys are - efforts, actions, changes.
Don't be depressed - get up, do, improvise!

There Are Times

There are times when I get lonely

There are times when i get lonely
I sit in the dark and listen to myself breathe
 Its quiet and Im alone.
The air is dry with the power to cool
the wisp of my thoughts is all i feel.

There are times when I get confused
I think, theorize and even try to pray,
All i get is a one sided thought
The world my friend a thing i cant call mine
wondering still maybe just maybe!

There are times when i want love
someone to be by myside,
my heart has a brokeness that cant be healed
I yearn each moment a friend, a love just someone.

There are times when I am lost, confused, and lonely
all i can do is look to heavenly father and know that everything will be ok
if i just have faith.

Touch of Fire

The second she had realized,
That a touch from me could burn,
She then could only theorize,
What the pleasure would return...
The burning smell of cinder,
Laced with orchids and a rose,
Making breath within her,
Slowly bend her where I chose...
Then gripping her in silence ,
With the sound of burning flames,
To singe away defiance,
Till we both feel much the same...
While rationing desire
So the furnace can sustain,
The passion in the fire,
So that nothing else remains...
And when the touch has ended,
They'll be ashes in her hair,
From the climax she preteneded,
Came from something in the air...

The Cynic

could it be the world's not half as dark
as fear would have it seem
for all we know it may be only-
the invention of a dream

i ask you is it fair to say-
that things will never change
nor wise indeed to theorize
that our fate is prearranged

perhaps accord will soon afford -
the earth to live in peace
when sword turns into plowshare
and all the wars will cease

and so mankind will have a mind-
to give good sense a try
yeah right,good luck with that-
when pigs learn how to fly!

Beautiful Baubles

Irridescent blue butterfly
Amber stones polished like jewels
Beautiful trinkets, baubles
Preserved history clear to see
Unearth the mystery past lives
Speculate, theorize, think
Hypothesis science
Has some errors, oh no!

Bomb shell of science, brainiac
Giant insects ready to prey
Eddy release the brain waves
Thoughts seize and become ideas
Theory to be tried, tested
Calculated, repeated
Advanced to proven facts
Write poetic facts, forms

Dead head cockroach canable
Madagascar hissing roach
Freaks of nature sure to fright
Explore your science museum
Facts finding days surely pleasing
Intrigue, educate, stimulate
Young minds need science facts
Fun observatory!

Perhaps, Surely

It comes and it goes
with the tide's every ebb, every flow,
                                     this quiet remembering that,
                                                   just by chance

                                                and just this once,
I have been gifted with a life,
as all living beings have been,
                                            but, by whom and why,

I realize I can only theorize:
When the tide ceases to come and go,
                                       perhaps, eventually, surely,
                                                      I will know.
