Stingray Poems

Premium MemberUrn of magic potion

I fell in an urn of magic potion.
About my locus, I had no notion.
I found myself on a wide, whirly sea.
My boat had holes. From fall, I couldn't flee.

From shores I seemed to have gone far away.
Sea snakes, cone snails, sea urchins, and stingray…
From these wild creatures, how could I escape?
Perplexed, could I nestle and merely gape?

I had spent my life seeking for meaning.
Towards salvation has been my leaning.
I am moving towards life in my sail.
I feel, in my adventure, I won't fail.

Premium MemberIn Diving the Coast Off Aruba

In diving the coast off Aruba,
He thought he would play his best tuba.
The fish thought it odd,
The stingray said “Todd,
That isn’t the way to do scuba.”

Premium MemberI dived into the cauldron of magic potion

I dived into the cauldron of magic potion.
I found myself on a wavy, whirly ocean.
My little boat has holes. Anytime it could sink.
Water skins gone empty, I had no drop to drink.

Jellyfish, lionfish, sea urchins, and stingray
How could I from these cruel creatures stay away?
Hungry and thirsty, I find no lighthouse around.
From churches, why do I not hear any bell sound?

I had spent my life seeking to find its meaning.
Towards salvation has ever been my leaning.
I feel I am moving towards it in this sail.
I feel in my adventure I will never fail.

Red Velvet

Maybe I’ll buy a red velvet cake from the store.

Buying things is a chore.
I had money somewhere in my jacket.
Coins making quite a racket.
But when I tried to unzip my pocket…
Water spilled out, out, out…

Then I died.

I drowned one day.
Barreling past a stingray.
The last thing I saw was a deep sea fish.
I sent him one last wish.
That in heaven, the sunlight would bleach my hair.
Underwater, there’s a lot to despair.

I was swimming on the beach.
I had just finished eating a peach.
The riptide moved toward me.
Taking me to the sea.

I bought a red velvet cake.
One day.
I had money.
I hadn’t died yet.
I had pulled out a 20 dollar bill.
They took it and gave me back change.
My cake was a treat.
I had change left over.
And two slices of cake.

Maybe I’ll buy a red velvet cake from the store.
I found out that heaven has stores too.

Premium Memberrapid growth of millies hair

Millie’s hair grew six inches a day
Serious growth that did not stray
Did this make her feel happy or gay?
We do not know, for she did not say.

She tried new remedies every day.
Goo of fly and spit of ornery blue jay.
Other combos that sounded rather cray-cray
Ideas borrowed from a mushroom fey.

Would her hair slow down when it turned gray?
It might suggested a non-knowing stingray.
Millie spent most of her wages and her regular pay.
Trying to get her growing hair to grow the regular way.

An Ocean

find blue summer in the undulating
fans of the kelp forests’
kelly green
swirl aquamarine waters
lemon tangs and
silvery blue angelfish dart,
dive disappear in a cloud
of color near
fluffy white sand bottom

the jet black stingray floats
like a kite
ripples ruffles flips and fusses
stops abruptly to let the
sand grains settle over wings
burying all but two round pearly
black eyes
ever observant
en garde

sunny red and vivid yellow
clownfish mingle kiss and
swish within the caressing
tentacles of the purple sea
anemones their symbiosis
on display

lit by golden shafts of
sunlight stabbing thirty and
forty feet angled through
the feathery kelp limbs

amber seahorses buck and rock
with the ocean waves
and currents of deeper cooler
waters flowing like underwater
rivers through the warm
buoyant waters of the
colorful kelp

Corals in colors carefully
chosen by Poseidon for their
elements of smiles, giggles
and warm hardy laughter

sea cucumbers decorate
the sands surrounding
the bases of the
kelp as they reach stretching
up to 300 feet to the
tossed gyrus and
sulcus of the ocean
sea foam surface

If I Were a Mermaid

If I were a Mermaid

If I were a Mermaid my name would be Margo and I’d live in the deepest blue sea
I’d swim with the dolphins, make friends with the sharks and hope that they wouldn’t eat me

If I were a Mermaid my tail would be gold and my hair would be crimson red
I’d hold it in place with fishbones I found buried deep in the seabed

If I were a Mermaid I’d go to school in a cavern by the bay
My classmates would be clownfish and squid
The teacher a grumpy stingray

If I were a Mermaid I’d frolic and play with the creatures of the sea
The lobsters and shrimp the whales and the crabs
the eels and shy manatees

If I were a Mermaid I’d spend my days watching ships as they travel afar
I’d spend my nights on warm sandy beaches
Making wishes upon shooting stars

If I were a Mermaid I’d dream of pirates and the treasures that they sought
I’d dream of their ships with their tattered white sails and the battles that they fought

If I were a mermaid I would do all these things in my
Home beneath the sea
But I’m not really a mermaid so I’ll just be content
To be the one and only ME

God's Majestic and Wide

God's Majestic and Wide

Breathe in an ocean so vast and so grand where seagulls and seashells sprinkle the sand.
So turquoise blue, majestic and wide, homes for God's creatures at high and low tide.
Like the Humpback Whale who sings a beautiful hymn or a baby sea turtle just learning to swim.
Like a stingray, a lobster, a shiny red cod, or friendly grey dolphins who live in a pod.

The Angel Fish, the Violet Snail, a Giant Squid, seaweed, and kale all need the oceans to breathe and survive, all need the oceans to stay alive.

Thank God for the oceans so vast and so grand, where seagulls and seashells sprinkle the sand.
So turquoise blue, majestic and wide, homes for God's creatures at high and low tide.

Those Impalas runs as shuttles car
Racing the mustangs through forest trees
Viroom, veroom, racing engines dust
Slowly vw beetles flutters fly far

Dart doubting datsons honey bees
Cobra shelby's viper dodge not trust
Racing metal objects within the breeze

Thunderbird hardly runs close flees,
Sunbeam tiger stripes running lights
Cougar mercury cliff jumps toward the stars
White Eagle kissel brights

We slowly drove he knew no haste
Skylark buick beauty runs in chaste
Naught this time chant I waste
Hurry, yon stingray sun bird taste

Premium MemberDo Bears Torture Other Animals

Do bears torture animals? No.
Do wolves tear you apart before they kill you? No.
It is man who tears the wings off butterflies.
It is child who shoots cats with a Beretta?

Do alligators eat you alive? Maybe.
But do they torment you first and let you see
The other body parts they keep in their refrigerator first?
Do pumas eat your arms first?
No. They eat your head; putting you out of your misery fast.

Do elephants, rhinos, zebras, lions or tigers use an Uzi?
Do stingray, crocodiles, cobras or wolves use AK-47’s?
Do any of these dangerous animals mow down children in grade schools?
Do any of these dangerous animals ruin the Ozone layer so everyone will die faster?

Who is the dangerous animal?
Who is the cruelest?
It is a quandary is it not?

all summer

I worked my bum off

Sept. 30, 2018 for Maureen McGreary's Biker's Dozen Poetry Contest

*Bum can be replaced also by the word buns or my made-up word, bunless. I read that England prefers the slang Bum and US prefers buns!

Fire

I fled from the clutch of boss
To stay clear of drop-dead day
My head was buzzy, eyes fuzzy
As if stepped on a big stingray.

They call me an angry ghost
A poltergeist of neighborhood
They are very right my wife says
You are too ill-mannered and irrecoverably rude.

I am an epitome of conflagration
and sting my son like Bumblebee
My daughter Fay in the month of May
Cudgeled me on and I took a knee.

I am spontaneous that I can say
Like a thunderbolt on Vanderbilt
Although I am scared of a rainy day
I admit this is my only guilt.

Stingray

STINGRAY

She took you for a ride on the wild side
Taking you through bushels and thorns
You endured the pain of the splinter and shrubs
Swerving through highways and by ways
U-turning to where disaster resides

She played foul
Destroyed all things beautiful
She’s unworthy and incapable of love

Her resolution was prostitution
Joy was her pain
Coddling crack…fondling cocaine

Stingray flowed through your urine
Foulness exhumed from her bob wired lips
Soiled and contaminated love endurance
Of this alleged relationship

Jaws of death clutching your humanity
Finalizing your mortality
Destruction ahead…your totality

You held on to the baggage
Of your broken heart and shattered dreams
And then to me you brought the excrement
Left over’s from your damaged relationship

This being why
I reside in this demise
You should have buried the bones
That destroyed your soul

Now you’ve compromised
The road less traveled of you and I
