Glowing Woman

She didn't shatter the glass ceilings,
she shattered the sky
and stars fell in her lap.
They barred her from science clubs
but she built her own constellations.

She arrived in Paris hungry for knowledge
fed herself with formulas
and ambition was satiated.
They gave her frostbitten ceilings
but she warmed them with equations.

She wasn't stuck by a Cupid's arrow
she steadied the bow
and hit the right heart.
They shared notebooks and moonlight
but she lost him to a wrong deviation.

She discovered a new glowing element,
covered herself with radiation
and lit up rooms for women.
They stood up for her at the Nobel ceremony,
but misogyny rewrote the citation.

Premium MemberHold the applause

creative thoughts we seem to think
vibrations borrowed from vast space
our muse that appears in a blink
what else is it but gift of grace

hold the applause, we’re not the cause
our consciousness is full of flaws

all eyes on us when we walk in
everything seems to go our way
we don’t need to work hard to win
the sun shines on us every day

hold the applause, we’re not the cause
know ego grips us in its claws

possessions which to us our dear
our social standing, wealth and fame
trophies won praised by the crowd’s cheer
reflect which force steadied our aim

hold the applause, we’re not the cause
put such thoughts of grandeur on pause

Premium MemberBy Friendship's Fire

I came with sorrow on my breath,
through darkness chilled by doubt,
and sought the warmth of friendship's fire
to drive the coldness out.

I drew about my stubborn back
the tartan of my creed
and proudly vowed my heart was full,
denying hunger's need.

I said the words my frozen soul
had willed my lips to say.
But, huddled there by friendship's fire,
love's touch gave me away,

as tenderly, on feathered feet,
the dawn of honesty
crept through the cracks of shuttered fear
and brought her light to me.

She called the shapeless shadows from
the corners of my guilt
and let me stand on the steadied hope,
my courage had freshly built.

With sorrow eased and strength renewed,
I laid my cloak aside
and took the warmth of friendship's fire
to face the world outside.

Sweet Memories

I met him accidentally
While on an errands run
Got into his space literally
With my hands heavily laden
And steadied me he did; tenderly

Looking up at my savior
Left me awestruck and dumbfounded
With my mouth as a dried up reservoir
Gazing up to him like one long retarded
As my heart beat with renewed vigor

The attraction was quick and fast
Like a wildfire it spread
In its snare and die we were cast
Effortlessly, tirelessly held
And to each other we held fast.

Premium MemberZen Nihilism

I feel, that sometimes, existence is an ocean.
Filled to the brim; overflowing; breaking with waves;
At other times everything seems like a motion,
Moving, like a death procession, towards the graves...

Silence and emptiness often pervade and fill
The cores of the deepest corridors and nooks
When noises decrease and calmness, like winter's chill,
Adorn the depths of my heart, altering my looks...

Space, like a vacuum, is formed for peace to stay.
I touch, feel, and find people and things as they are.
There is nothing to cling on. Things are new each day.
As the flux of water in a stream, I flow far.

Often, like stock-taking, my being is emptied.
Worn-out things are replaced with commodities new.
The light wavering within, with new wicks, steadied.
I see persons and events in a sanguine view...

"An infatuation can grow into a steady affair through love and marriage, but if weakened through silence and indifference, love which is magical can prove critical too" ~ By Poet

An emotion born through chance
A spark lit through glance
Fanned through appearance
Grown through acquaintance
Confirmed through countenance
Blazed through romance
Interrupted through absence

Steadied through alliance
Tested through penance
Decreased through silence
Weakened through defiance
Exhausted through indifference
Worn out through intolerance
Snubbed out through violence

And ended up in divorce!

Stage Fright and Solution

Do speakers sound articulate,
For ideas they’d freshly conceived
From the faintest flash just received?
Does pumped blood not circulate fast,
The steadied nerves later not last?

Rather a weak insulation
Of a feared circumlocution,
Left ajar a stammering door
Begging for Great Orator’s jaw!
Its not helped by physical might
What is a psychology’s fight
Great panic and its twin stage fright
Before an audience, mind in flight
Sure it had met The Superior
That deserved nothing inferior…

So back you go to drawing board!
Weapon: psychological sword!

Premium Member'lead Kindly Light'

Caught in the clutches of darkness, we quail
Seeing it shrouding our spirits, we wail
Assailed by afflictions and tribulations severe
Our life is devoid of all peace and cheer

Oh Living Light! Penetrate through this darkness
Let your beams cut through this dankness
Till every murky corner is warm and aglow
And we are steadied by your light’s luminous glow

Across the lengthening stretch of our loneliness
We can only see frightening shadows of grayness
Be by our side as our anchor and prop
As through this dark alley, staggering we grope

Oh, Living light, we look up to you
To lead us and show us the way to pursue
Rain on us the radiance of your heavenly light
That we shall not grope in the stygian night

Hold our hands and lead us to sunshine
With Thy brilliance, our life entwine
Set our minds free from the grip of fear
Fill us with thoughts, resurgent and pure

So that we shall proceed on our arduous journey
With abiding Hope as our eternal company
And enough light and grace to make each day
Better and brighter than the ones gone their way!

Premium MemberA Naive Heart

A naïve heart listens to words of hope,
susceptible to the promise of love.
But when fragile feelings walk a tightrope,
all it takes is an emotional shove.

Trust steadied your every step from the start,
yet your anxieties intensified.
And like a festering wound in your heart,
betrayal pushed trust's safety net aside.

You'll never be so gullible again,
having felt the sting of love lost to time.
Yet, acknowledging love can inflict pain
does not make it feel any less sublime.

Although a hurting heart might disagree,
you can't cage love; it will die, if not free.

Premium MemberDrunken Driving

He was known to be a carefree dandy
Once he got boozed up with brandy
Driving his new car
He felt flying in the air
He wailed, “The brake doesn’t come handy”

Because of over speed, broke the car’s tier
Hit it on a tree with a thud severe
Some people came running
They saw him screaming
In pain, he was springing in the air!

He was lifted up in an ambulance,
With scars all over his countenance.
Some accompanied him
Inside it was quite grim
He was kept under careful observance

Slowly he showed signs of improvement
On limp legs, there were signs of movement
When steadied in health,
Was sad on ill gotten wealth.
On wheels, resolved not to be negligent.

Premium MemberNot My First Typhoon

[Continued from previous episode.]

…on my third Cold War deployment
Patrolling the South China Sea,
Having many good reasons to be there,
Though no one’d explained them to me.

The mess cooks were dishing out mid-rats.
I was Mess Deck Master-at-Arms.
The ship’s rock and roll grew excessive,
Should’ve hit the collision alarm.

Cups, trays, and all of it crashed to the deck.
The scullery crew threw a fit.
I steadied my sea legs and harnessed my will.
Nodded to Senior Chief, “I’ll take care of it.”

To be continued…

Transmuting consciousness
Baptised in the stream from above
Unbroken awareness

Bliss transfixed attention
Is our meditation
Heart’s orientation

Ego urge tame

On Remembering My Mother

Remembering my mother,
when a baby, I was
in a cot wrapped up warm
singing me a lullaby to suit
Sleep beautiful,
Sleep a dream happily.

Remembering my mother,
With tears in her eyes
As my cries of pain persisted
While the doctor reassures her
In no danger I was…..

Remembering my mother,
Walking me to nursery school
While as a toddler, I steadied along
Carrying a small lunch box
To sustain my hunger….

Remembering my mother,
Sorting out my newly bought school uniform
Encouraging me to study and learn
As of now, as a student
Far away to be from her…..

Remembering my mother,
Beautifully dressed for the occasion
The mother of the groom, I
Hoping my future with my wife
Shall be secured and fulfilling…..

Remembering my mother,
As white a chalk
As stiff as a statue
Death came and laid her to sleep
Tiring tears in my eyes
With memories of the woman, I loved most.

Premium MemberWhat a Grandmother Carries

She strains to find her footing in orthopedic shoes
my grandmother's clop-clop walk to me
       unbalanced
steadied by a backbone of faith

She bears a tattered, red carpet bag,
solid wooden handles, worn like her marbled hands
Grandma removes jam tarts and her Bible (smell enticing)
to tutor me for my Sunday School verses,
Psalm 23, that welds to memory
Her diligence that I adhere to the lines
despite my craven pull to tarts (a riveting obsession)
Unfussy delight when I learn the verses
Her glow, free floating,
       a small harp ovation

Grandmother's carpet bag, stitched by history
brimming with the sweet lure of baking
upheld by her faith, like a pulse that hums devotion
in a drawn body softly folding into itself

Nothing can be swept aside
       when a grandma voices validation
       when generosity extends itself
when her walk thaws the ground
       when words embroider love
                              ensuring preservation
