Premium Member close encounters

The stars are out and they’re worth considering,
with their glimmering, glittering, shimmering,
like fireworks flickering but more regularly appearing
in the black hole sky.

In Europe there are Ukrainians, Albanians, Scandinavians,
Romanians, Lithuanians and maybe a couple of Canadians,
but out there, in the dark black void-of-space, there are Aliens.

Ok, well, statistically, there are bound to be aliens.
your author has no first-hand knowledge of extraterrestrials

I have galactic questions though—you better believe it. For instance:
If light is the fastest thing in the universe,
why is darkness already there when light arrives?

  Could dark-matter be chocolate? and
How can we roll our clocks back if time only moves forward?

This is when having a physicist for a boyfriend is handy
—as well as those times you need a ‘close encounter.’ wink.wink

Premium Member Blowing Smoke

Wildfires don't recognize borders.
Neither should common sense.
But the nonsense coming out of your leaders' mouths
just proves that they're really dense.

Smoke doesn't come with a passport.
It's not some thing you can just deport.

You see, here's the way it goes.
We can't control the way the wind blows.

Maybe you should clean up your own mess
before blaming others for your distress.

We actually have way more
boreal forest than you.
Yet, statistically, for some reason,
you have more fires than we do.

Your priorities are something
you need to rearrange
because the problem is not Canada;
it's climate change.

Statistically

You see people as numbers
And dots on a line
Tracking each blunder
And if they were on time

Millions of ants
With money not souls
You refuse that they can’t
It’s no use if they’re old

Emotions get in the way
Unless they can earn
By the end of the day
Filing up urns

Fact isn’t law
And law isn’t right
Even if you plainly saw
I’d have hoped that you might

Statistically and categories
Wishful thinking and lost stories
All for order
Human no more

Premium Member seasonal euphoria

Do you think we’re the sort of girls to sit around on a Sunday night?
EAH (loud buzzer sound) you’d be wrong!!

What’s the opposite of seasonal depression - seasonal euphoria?
I’m self-diagnosing here, but I think I’ve got it.
I have all the symptoms:

Excessive happiness: a level of joy statistically improbable.
Compulsive smiling: grinning under the most mundane circumstances.
Irrational optimism: the feeling everything will turn out all right.
Compulsive socializing: relentlessly engaging in parties and outings.
Impulsive behavior: capricious decisions that lead to.. stuff.
Difficulty focusing: trouble concentrating on ‘serious subjects.’
Increased appetites: A craving for.. everything fun.

I have to call it. The symptoms are limpid, my diagnosis is:
Summer, seasonal euphoria, and it feels pretty good.

Premium Member Margin of Error

Margin of Error

By Mark D. Stucky
If, statistically, Adam and Eve
hadn’t exceeded Eden’s margin of error,
would lambs now be lounging with lions?
Would toothy T-Rexes have been vegan?
Would we love our neighbors and enemies
as we love our less-than-perfect selves?
Would we make war no more
and have peace on earth?

But, certainly, mistakes were made!
And now, we should wherever possible
correct for past and future errors,
across centuries of commissions and omissions.
Like the trembling woman sprawled in the dust,
“go and sin no more” is also meant for us.

Miracles

Strange things happen, get used to it.
Often statistically odd.
But explained by mathematics
without any need for a god.

i'm a potential analytical anomaly
that's something that you should
agree but arguably a fantastically
fantasmical phenomenonally that

(breathe in)

statistically is sexually unacceptable
unspeakable unspeakably but never
mind that none of these despicably
describes me or even to a tee

Data

DATA

“Where’s your DATA?” I challenged his new assumption,
For conclusion without fact is but presumption.
As much as I enjoy coaching students to think,
Analyzing many numbers tickles me pink!
“Fact-based decisions” is a phrase you may have heard,
And guessed that DATA has been my favorite word.

To statistically analyze is such a joy,
Numbers dance on the page like a shiny new toy.
Unlike opinion, DATA is a true delight.
When mere thoughts fail us, digital DATA sheds light,
And is the sole universal language of nerds.
So, you can see why DATA is the best of words.

People wondered “How 38 years without strife?”
Digital facts my focus, empathy in wife,
Combining cool DATA with her warm emotions
For every day, any size, problem solutions.
Since feelings alone hide things not quite what they seem,
Hard DATA helped make us a successful team!

Premium Member Instilling Hope Where I Can

It is the best of the worst.
I say this optimistically.
Instilling hope where I can.
Pulling us up statistically.

Who I Would Like To Thank

Who i would like to thank
The Teletubbies basically raised my kids
Beware the stranger
Although statistically someone you know will kill you
Now go to sleep
Time is always precise so that i can measure my inaccuracy
Colour rewards itself
Clouds that cuddle skies
Air that breathes her name
Laughter imprisoned in the lull
The Winter parts for chiselled sun
He that takes my name
but never fills the shape
The universe within mind
That chortles at our reality
No God to call my own
No devils sharing throne
Who do we thank
For being so alone

A Test

Hidden in the recess
Developing within the walls
A system to educate
A system that evolves
Statistically a witness to charts and scales
The beginning of the grading towards judgement
To pass or to fail
