Down comes rain,
Beating of the wingspan,
On angry tree umbrellas,
The overwhelming turbulence,
The natural chaos that balances everything in it's hand.

I used to be a pebble.
Now I’m the frigate-bird
weaving wide wings with sky.
I trim my feathers,
search the wind and waves
where silver-fish dive.
I used to be old
as earth-bones
but I hold a quick
in the hollow
of my eye.

The best that one could ever be in life
cannot be achieved by imitating another man
But
By developing his God-given talents
that would help unfold his dream's wingspan!

I saw a large shadow in the water
Something ominous coming from up high
She hit the water with a large splash
There was a bit of a battle but not much
Horned owl took off holding her catch
Her wingspan was enormous
The catfish stopped squirming

Hawk Hawk
Loud you squawk
Squawking squawking
While you’re hawking
Circling, circling
Large wingspan
Hawking squawking
With a plan
Hawk Hawk
Loud you squawk
Squawking squawking
While your hawking
Circling circling
I have a hunch
You are hawking
For your lunch

A courageous wave,
unfurls it's massive,
turbulent-white wingspan,
charges the beachhead,
and flings itself, determinately,
against a rocky cliff wall:
metamorphosing into a fine mist,
floating languidly in the soft breeze,
then landing upon the face of a child,
becoming a smile.

Light Verse
lost in the freedom
~up there in the endless sky~
feathered giant flies
above the oceans
~his large wingspan allows him
to dance a long time
on an open stage
~the elegance takes slowly
an albatross shape

upon
the
airship wingspan
where
the yellow beak
herring gulls
drift
in nautical miles
and
touch the fingertips of
ocean waves
without
fear or doubt
but
rejoice in it
with
constant jubilee
where
they dwell
in
peace harmony
and
kinship
above water
above land
oh
heavenly father
praise God

It’s where the schizophrenic is socially accepted,
Where he can show every man,
It’s where he can all come out and fly,
Opening his whole wingspan.
And you can see who he is with what he will write,
It’s all of him you will know,
In the poems created using beautiful words,
Where his legion of thoughts are on show.

my muse
springs awake
from slumber;
in overdrive
at the crack of dawn.
my mind's eye
wide open;
my imagination,
a bird spreading
it's elephantine wingspan,
taking dizzying flight.
poetic inspirations
are breadcrumbs
scattering
here and there.
my ink-filled pen
gracefully skates
across a blank page;
a poem was born
with a faint gust of wind.

Albatross with deft shape
Aptly walz with wingspan
Across wild oceans soars
Abstract sway and power
As stars beam with delight
Apostle verve and scop
Always burden bearer

Swooping down to grab some meat,
A wingspan of five feet?
Me, oh, my, what could it be?
A Great Gray Owl, I think I see!
Shaking up the animals a bit,
Sharp, black talons, ready to strike
Grabs up a bunny, who is trying to kick.
A Great Gray Owl, I see to like
A wingspan of five feet,
Flying off, to eat her meat.
There is something really keen
About a Great Gray Owl, rarely seen

From the ashes, arose the Phoenix unlike any other
Destined for damnation and destruction
Abruptly, the ground trembled
A bird like creature shot from the ground leaving the onlookers petrified
With an enormous wingspan, the creature began to pillage
Not a word was said but action became the verb
Eyes wide open but belief is a distant vision
Forever oppressed by gouls and goblins

I run and hide from my shadow,
The murderous wingspan of crow -
Of flight, not fight.
My curdled dendrites long since spent.
Like the greening hulk, my skin rent.
So dim - the light.
I’ve shallow breaths and molten fear’d.
My former life, like a steak seared -
With poor eyesight.
I fold my hands and bend my knees
And hope for insight - what He sees.
Spur me upright!

Returning,
We came into this lifetime,
Just another long hallway of learning.....
Yet this time
I saw the Southern cross,
Lying on my back
In the midnight hour
On a wooden ship of dreams,
Carried off
Into the trade winds
Like a rogue eagle with a wingspan
As big as the universe
Across the pacific....
Unraveling
The tight strings of a heart
That chipped the
Iceberg
Of a loving intention.

The great white egret
Silhouettes against the sky
It's massive wingspan, outstretched
With it's spear-like bill
It skims the water surface
Searching for a prey to stab

Love is the wind beneath my wings
Given enough air, I will soar to unspeakable heights
Looking down on the lonely and miserable
I feel their pain within my soul, for I know the agony of lonely nights
My wingspan is elongated and stretching in the direction of bliss
For once in my life, my mind is clear
From here on out, I choose to be happy
Coming out of the shadows, leaving my lonely past in the rear

The unicorn was soaring high;
I watched it fly across the sky.
A regal beast of snowy white,
Its horn was like a stalagmite;
Its wingspan took my breath away.
I smiled with joy to hear it neigh -
But then I spotted on its back,
A grinning rider, dressed in black:
PD was out with her new pet;
She waved and zoomed off like a jet.
And as they flew towards the sun,
I knew her birthday would be fun.
Jack Horne, with love to PD on her birthday ***

birds of the same feather
don't always flock together;
while most prefer safety in numbers,
a few just want to be hermits on towers;
there are others which opt to flap farther
where the wingspan room is much wider;
among them, too, are anti-social loners,
and a noisy bunch of social climbers;
most of the birds that flock together,
especially during fair weather,
are not of the same feather!

The ancients honored you in their cultures
Mythology crowned Jataya, King Of Vultures
Obligate scavengers, you conduct your foray
Toward putrid carcass of what will be your prey
Dead bodies, prairie dogs, rodents, wild boars
Insatiable eclectic pallet opens many doors
Vomit, your defense, your uric acid searing
Hunched backbone, broadened wingspan so fearing
Here they soar, the vultures who seldom kill
Just scouting about for their carrion meal
