Rite of Spring
Sun's beams with ardent fervor gleam
Showers caress winter's fallow domain
Sprouting flowers their silty dander stream
Squawking squirrels, sparring birds occupy fertile terrain
Spring's revitalized chorus echoes a new refrain...

Winter Survival - Ws
A cold winter's night,
birds warmly nestled in nests-
frigid hibernation fight
Morning chirping songs,
scavenging frozen berries-
sparring for Spring survival

Scary
Your slanting smile
like a pendant-moon
ready to collapse
on pomegranates.
*
Monstrous, bug-eyed,
my pug will jump;
whenever, I touch
his snub-nose.

What was the need

Two Daffodils
did those outstanding daffodils withstand;
their feet were frozen last night;
or had they one last stand…
sparring midnight, did my love’s hand snip them,
gently warm them in a vase;
their faces greeting mine…
i did not send my spouse onto the hill;
too steep and cold for bare feet;
reprise of Spring will hail.

Comparisons
Tired of being compared
By those who have for me cared.
Tired of feeling scared
Of words they declared.
Tired of comparing
Myself to those I'm sparring.
Tired of fighting
The truth of something.
Tired of my comparisons,
Knows not of my nature's origins.
Tired of my frustration,
My mind needs filtration....

The Greater Fantasy
Many believe love a fantasy to be;The greater fantasy believing themselves to love.
Eros irritates me. For agape I hope.
Perhaps a monastic I should be and wear the cowl, sparring my soul from sorrow, though deep within I hold a heart full of love which I hide for fear of heartlessness from this foul realm , filled with insincerity and hypocrisy...

The Shadow Knows
Sparring with demons, and dragons and deadheads
It bobs and weaves like a drunken sailor.
Omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient
I'm quite attached to it - joined at the psyche.
Image of an incubus twirling as I do.
Patron Saint of agony, I curse it
And relegate it to a 2nd-class personage.
Out, damn spot, out - and take the blood with you....

Spring Hatchling
Hatchling
gold daffodils
the call of the cuckoo
conies sparring before sunrise
Soon realize the delights of rainfall
tumbling from branches to wildlife
learning their craft quickly
toad spawn spring bloom
hatchling

Culpability
Adept in riling.
You cannot chew the thoughts.
There was no mandible.
This double-edged
cutlass. The curvy contour
brings you to a hole. You
spray a defoliant to
denude the trees.
Naivete.
Who was competent enough
to disconnect the sparring
bulls. Disingenuous, you
were not interested to –
design a stillness as a
requiem for the trailing dazzlers.

Sparring With Pain
Sparring With Pain
Written: by Tom Wright
10-21-2016
Entering each day’s fight I’ve total disdain,
The fighter I face uses the moniker, pain,
I hook and jab endeavoring to stay on top.
His presence I may slow but rarely can stop.
I’ve tried to drug him but that didn’t work,
So I’ve reached a conclusion that’s quite sage.
It hasn’t been ring savvy, grit, or footwork,
Pain unmasked revealed my true foe was Age.

Scarf On Head
Tangled clues
with sensuous sparring;
the incense was rising from the blue moon.
It was body’s integrity,
a lender was demanding
when lust had become prodigal.
Behind the thin veil, red eyes
stared unblinkingly
at the portrait of a nude zero.
When the light was nodding from a crown
the darkness spat on the feet
which walked on the roses.
A single thorn will not be envious
of the licking fingers.
A drop of blood will tell the truth.

Mythical, Menacing Crow
Black spright as dark as night
Dark wizard eclipsing the light
Menacing vandal from perch alight
With guile give wing to flight
All of the airy spirits to spite
Your jealous suitors with envy requite
Spread ebony cape; your brigand kite
From eerie heights with steely eyes blight
With devilish caw a quaking fear incite
With razor-sharp talons ignite the sparring fight
With sharpened beak your helpless foe smite
Then with callous indignity glide over rendered plight...

Drastic Dances Drooling
spartian spirit spurring
sumptuous soles straying
salient strength scrunching
saucy strife stalking
spooky south squashing
sane stats straining
desirous dare dancing
damped desires dangling
drastic dances drooling
smothered sight smoothening
stunning spurs straightening
salty soaring sparring
oodles oomph oozing
dare awed spirit.

~Note~ A dare saw a spirit floating in the air, ascending... It goes there at intervals... Wishing its parents could do it....
