Had a voice that would set dogs to howling.
Her high C, it was said,
Could awaken the dead,
And turn Buddha from laughing to scowling.

A Sullen Silken Star
Stiffly staring
from a faded
frightened far
is a sullen
silken star.
Scornfully
scattered behind
it’s skittish
skin of scolded
scowling scars.

A Friendly Traitor
A viper
Lethal
Fatal
Mortal
Pretending to be friendly
While nocuous
A masked personality
Full of pretence
Grinning face
But scowling and frowning
Hidden hatred
Veiled by a false smile
Indeed;
It is a friendly-traitor.

Winter Day
The skimming winter day
Becomes flushed angrily
Pushing with licentious revelry
And scowling delicately astray

The day vanishes into the night eye
And dread ascents with a feeling scream
The night flickers in cherishing gleam
As life proceeds--a brilliant dusk settles over sky...

Raping old friends
Far too easy
And I suffer the
Consequences.

Without connections
And only visiting
their happiness
on the outside.

I am undeserved of
renewal I say,
and out-casted
like a good

should be.

my brow

Scowl of the Owl
the crackle
of dried twigs cracked
the steep stillness, the quiet
of May's blistering noonday;

gray owl,
from the dark foliage,
flew out into the sun's glare,
losing then finding its way;

noiselessly,
it flapped upward,
in slow spirals, scowling down,
then, blindly, soared far away!...

Students At Work
Students at Work

See them work!
Studious looks,
Buried in books,
Leaflets flipping,
Binders snapping,
Pencils tapping,
Textbooks slamming,
Nick-knacks toppling,
Back-packs rummaging,
Noses rubbing,
Nail nibbling,
knees flapping,
Foreheads scrunching,
Eyebrows rising,
Lips compressing,
Faces scowling,
Chins supported,
Tongues catapulting,
Coughs echoes,
Work Accomplished!...

Old Man

his weatherbeaten face, lined
with the hills and valleys of age
watery blue eyes set against a
backdrop of bloodshot white
his cheeks reddened from
sun and alcohol, his aquiline
nose has lost its nobility
his once full lips now just
scowling lines covering remnants
of jagged teeth
his stubble covered chin now
a dirty gray bristle
life has not been kind to him

A Poet’s Loss

I walked at length and wondered!
In the icy, pouring rain:_
Wind mercilessly howling,
What I had done in vain!

How a friendship went asunder!
My true, heartfelt,pain.
Your poet’s pen just scowling,
In stuffy, vain and arrogant disdain!

Why am I drawn
to this scowling girl
selling her poems
in a Shinjuku underpass?

Every Tuesday she is here,
next to a Nikon ad,
threatening commuters
with her cyclostyled angst.

Busy people keep up
with the times,
do a tap dance
on their smartphones.

Only drunks buy poetry.
Grubbing for their last,
sweaty coins, they
mock her with every purchase.

Cold and Misty By: Miracle Man 12-15-2019 This blustery day finds me quietened inside, Weighing my thoughts before going to ink. Most thoughts arriving my pen has denied, I’m carefully bound and thoughts I bethink. I gaze outside and observe leaves blowing, A Northwester wind, gale force, is howling. Today’s forecast mentions sleet and snowing, Which means today will be spent scowling.

Flight of the Crone
Dirty scowling crone
Old as the wind
Tear-stained cheeks
Sadness of knowing

Shuffling quietly
Through twisted shadows
She is darker than night
Darker than you

Stony chill of her breath
Whistling across
Withered yellow lips
The foulest of crypts

Hating eyes
Hating you
Earthen pits of decay
Windows to oblivion

Embracing you…
Twitching, dying bats
Scurrying, gnawing rats
Screaming, slicing cats

Don’t look
Don’t watch
Don’t see
Don’t know

Ever...

This Empire of Stone
Gone are the days when gold shine filled the air.

Peace and love were the order of the day.

The fiend of darkness is lost in his dark kingdom.

He gyrates with pitiful madness and scowling eyes.

This empire of stone and blessed land of our birth.

Teaches a man how to live and shine amidst the stars.

So look not to the ground when virtue takes to the sky.

There joy can be found that needs not of pretty things!

Meeting With a Mermaid
The mermaid swimming in the sea
was scowling when she spotted me -
quite ghastly with her seaweed hair,
she wasn't rattled by my stare,
and hauled herself on board my boat
(despite her weight, we stayed afloat).
Her scaly tail and fishy smell
convinced me that this gal was Hell,
and then she shoved me overboard.
My shouts and splashes quite ignored,
she cackled loudly, yelled, 'Whoopee'
and left me stranded in the sea...
