grimy and gritty
asphalt yard
put in by my husband

who would like the entire yard to be asphalt...

Premium Member Forlorn
Silent
           the mowers
in
Spring
                   gardens
awash
           with April
rain
                   forlorn
the days-eye
off-white
half-open
                     morn
wistful
           waiting
a
warm
                 dawn
I
doze and
dream
                  of
                  you...

Optimism
The Sunday mundane mowers mow
The hush of summer
Calm and slow,
A sudden abundance
Of people fresh from hibernation
Lull in the lazy languid
Heat and warm sensation
For me the weather is turning,
The rain is so near
I can taste it on my tongue
So near I can breathe it in my lungs
Stop the dam mowing
In my world it’s snowing....

Come September
last wisps of summer

float along the empty shore

a cool mist slowly rolls in

ready for change

school bells ring

lawn mowers silent

squash left in the garden

shadows get longer

waves catch soft light

sand pails abandoned

beach plums wither

along the shore line

sandpipers scatter

carrying summer secrets...

The Afternoon Breeze
Birds chirping
People whistling
doors opening and closing
The sound of the dog panting

Lawn mowers pushing through the grass
Wind blowing into the trees
Smell of the old evening campfires

The sun hidden within the clouds
The afternoon breeze coming and going
sitting here thinking.....
What to do next

A lake swim
A walk or run
Time at the playground
Get out...

Dangling Dandelion Muse
Dandelion puff clouds
tickle the air with their flossy flights.
Other weeds cannot fly
they are deeply rooted, their seeds
flop low.
Landscapers grind the ground grimly,
mowers grapple and growl
but the low gravity and the fluffy,
the wind-walking dandelions
sneeze up their fuzziness
and care not
as they ride the sky, their
high-flown wispy pedigrees
waving goodbye....

Summer Timed
Summer deals its first hand
no bluffing behind her eyes
depression heated to irritating comfortless
catching tunes upon the air
that haunt from summered pasts
the clink of ice on crystal
Mowers scream from close by
a yapped chorus bites the air
the haze lifting from cement
for a moment ripples reality
then a falling wind chills
with the burning shadows
of anything stopping the sun's stretch...

snow
no more
warmer days
birds are singing
squirrels scampering
pretty flowers blooming
kids playing and having fun
lawn mowers are humming away
looks like spring has sprung into color
spring is the very best time of the year

Ode Ear Those Ears
Ode ear those ears, for you I fear
Bombastic melodies endured
Lawn mowers, chain saws and fireworks
Damage through the years most assured!

No ear protection considered
Tell me, has anyone heard of that?
Sudden sounds from who knows where,
Will leave a soul, skittish as a cat!

Almost trampled by some cattle
Because the herd was left unheard
Wouldn't that cause a gooey mess
A way to check out, too absurd!...

Sunday Afternoon
Sunday Afternoon Never a more beautiful day, Marvel upon marvel of The grace upon grace Which God sends. Pieces of heaven, I know he has prepared. A symphony of birds, Basses to lyric sopranos, Lawn mowers adding Deep sounds of low violas. Soft harmonies soft thunder, soft rain, A peacefully sleeping Pekinese, Contentment in the kitchen. The scent of chocolate chip cookies… With my love.

Along the sidewalk down the way Mowers running through the day Drifting grass for greening style Cut the scent will linger for a while Melt me down in heat so fair Bountiful of beauty, stop and stare Breeze massage so cool and true Summer spends so quickly passing through Blow a kiss and say good bye The living season passes far too fast Lick that ice cream while you can Just like the heat, it will never last

I saw fields of yellow-gold daffodils
A sight my heart with enthusiasm fills,

Few things touch my soul with such happiness
I’m a sucker for lawn flowers, I guess,

I hardly wait for tulips to appear
Enjoying them before they feed the deer,

Tiny violets on the lawn delight
They are fighting nips of spring air despite

Lawn mowers onslaught will be coming soon,
Sweet dandelions blooming before noon.

Suburbia
I don't live near the ocean,
But I long to hear the waves.
I don't live near the mountains,
It'd be cool to see the caves.

To far from the city lights,
To be considered hipster.
To far from a working farm,
To get a working blister.

Dwelling in suburbia,
Sounds of mowers fill the air.
The only lights are porches,
No farms or caves anywhere.

Ode to suburbia,
The land of human cages.
Friendly waves may fill the air,
But inside everyone rages....

Sounds of a squeaky swing.
Cat paws ballet dancing on
a wooden fence.
Lawn mowers, singing, happy
through tall grass.
Songs of my neighbor, as she cooks
breakfast.
A darling dog barks, not wearing a
mask.

Woodpecker's back... Knocking on
tree doors.
People outdoors without masks chat.
The pond in back bubbles,
beautifully.
The winds on the huge pinwheel sing
"Spring is here", in colored, tonal, artistry!

AI - Amy Ingram
Amy Ingram, who lives next door,
like nobody, you've met before,
always talks with a whirring sound,
and walks an inch above the ground,
all mechanical that's for sure.

She reopened the hardware store,
mending microwaves and mowers,
AI hope for our run down town,
Amy Ingram.

Red capped residents, soon got sore,
said "this ain't our town any more",
but some of us stuck to our ground,
we wouldn't let them shut her down,
I'm just glad I've got to know her,
Amy Ingram.
