This manatee and I would have 
so much fun, and how!

We would swim in the cleanest waters.
Never taking a bath again.

We would splash and blow bubbles 
I would nudge him on his chin!

We would play with a maritime band

I guess my wishing is silly 
since I don’t have a Man Friday....

to Death’s door, where waters meet
Green Bay, Lake Michigan and everything,
wonders of the north I greet.
I listen to fathers and their sons
the builders of ships in Sturgeon Bay,
the hulls they build so strong
and the joy when they are sent on their way.
The Maritime Museum tells the tales
of many brave young adventurers
who from the shores set sail....

Look full-faced into the rugged wind
His blond silken hair is blown about
Like spikes around his elfin-like face.

He knows nothing 
Of how the wind starts
Or how it effects
His cool Maritime climate.

Only that this invisible wind

And challenges him to dance

She said, as I passed.
We listened in silence
And heard the squeaking,
As trunks rubbed together
High up in the canopy, above our heads.

“Those humans come again
Up the steep trail.
Can’t stay away from what we’ve created. 
This maritime rainforest
Draws them in hoards,
Until the rains come
And the days get shorter,
When they huddle indoors,
