A silent stone cries to the sky
Heralding her tranquil graved name.
A windswept tree weeps autumn leaves
As on her limestone marker grieves.

Shenanigans
There was a lad known for his shenanigans,
Who completed each act with such naughty grins.
He leaned backward all alone,
To kiss the old Blarney Stone!
That limestone-lipped lad known for shenanigans....

Arid
Fragments of copper scatter;
smothers an Opal kiss
the surface only matters;
ardour does not exist,
and deserts of weary Chicory
sway with limestone tips,
swelling like the cactus
blistering our lips....

Cavern
in a cavern
my petroglyph shimmers with color
prisms of inner feelings
reflecting in an underground pool
my thoughts tumble and scream
echoing against limestone walls
returning to me as a whisper
as an answer
as a prayer...

Water seeping through the ground,
Forming limestone, timeless round
Pillars on the ceilings, or
Columns on the cavern floor.

There, where bats escape the sun,
Nature carves, till Time is done,
Castles in Virginia caves,
Like Egyptian, carved-stone graves....

Northern Hills
Northern Hills

Sublime is the majesty of Northern hills,
River meandering through Valley and Dale.
Limestone pavement lead to wooded ghylls,
Breath held in wonder 'fore satisfying exhale.

lycian rock tombs

Built around 400 BC, these impressive rock tombs have been carved out of the limestone rock and was used to inter Lycian Kings, the only way to see them close up is on a river boat trip on the Dalyan river in Turkey....

To once again hear the renditions of the songbird’s morning trill as leaves upon the trees tremble in triad tones within the moorside tempest; and lyrical waves in unsung meadows symbolically crash against limestone walls and telephone wires in viola whines an archaic symphony. © Harry J Horsman 2022

High Country
The tang of crowberries and storm clouds
sieved through wind and limestone
sheep’s piss and heather.
Beneath the high rock, ravens spiral,
swoop through a flying sky.
This is my land, this moment
I declare myself the very image of the One image,
magnified, upright, somewhere between
a wind-blown gnat and the rocketing reach
of a reckless God....

Rain polka dots
the limestone church
in a spray of champagne
as throngs of ballet slipper camellias
plie like marionettes
with crystal strings
to heavy drops
on an emerald lawn
of rice tosses.

Rows of braided Lavender
sway to Spring's accordion gusts
just as far-off fields of shamrock
jettison rose poppies
into glistening air.

Limestone Bluffs
The stones could be prehistoric fertility figures,
they persist, they redefine the seen.
Water-pliant, submissive,
they are turned on the wind’s millwheels.

Some remind me of farm girls
broad buttocks, love handles,
rolling hips. Not like the bony walkers
that climb up here.

I sit leaning against an ample mound -
feel the womanish stone
shaping its image around me....

Honeymoon Cruise
On a ship so white with skies of blue,
we sailed on seas calm and true.
The music played with a reggae sound,
and everyone danced around.
As the island came into sight,
we both smiled with such delight.
White limestone roofs, royal palms tall,
pink sandy beaches covered it all.
The memories will last a lifetime through,
until we can sail again on the ocean blue.

The hawk lay upon the lazy late afternoon air currents; Floating, circling, spiraling, ever downward. Its wings spread wide, white feather-tips splayed. It teetered on the updraft above the terraced alluvial plains in the lea of the Himalayas. Landing with a compression of desire upon the crumbling limestone outcropping, It stood preening. Waiting, For the next breeze.

limestone hearted eaten away
by God's eternal, feral rain

stalagmite preachers in full royal bloom
igniting fanged candles to temper gloom

memories choked with thorny throated weeds
half-hearted souls, blue marbled eulogies...

truly, time chisels flesh into stone
fluted memories are forged from bone

snake congregation bearing footfall refrain
limestone hearted forever.. a mad harlot to the rain...

Great Existence
Moving up over through
Into
All I've known is felt through the end
Never a beginning always ending
Falter as I may, myself I hold - alone in company
Tress in to limestone pillars of my great hall
Great as the Norse and proud as well
Threads of time woven with clumsy hands led by blind eyes
Thus is the expanse of the web of life The Great Existence
Not where but it's the being that is. Is what I am and
What we are...

Nature's
verdigris face
beams at waterfalls touch
evergreens drink a hearty fill
moss is abundant upon the limestone;
I sit dangling my feet in the
cool aqua-watching swans
glide lazily
along.

a taste
of springtime peace
invades my spirit with
its' lure in this place every year;
mother earth is a sweet nurturer, soft
of caress to the soul who needs
an escape from the grind;
tranquility
wondrous!

Walking stick stroking limestone paths
sunshine warming these patina hands-

A fleeting chorus of gold winged finch,
God sashaying over cherry wood violins-

Turtles playing dominos on mossy stones
amidst cattails and croaking saxophones-

Cardinal splashing in blue spruce pines
emerald hoppers popping out a nursery rhyme-

Maple leaves flaunting sweetened faces
blue jean angels sowing quilts for earth's day-
