cataclysmic waves

                                     awaken sailors' nightmares

My wife always hated holiday feasts
It seemed every year her hatred increased
This year she stuffed the turkey
With hard sticks of beef jerky
And smiled when my relatives called the priest...

Noontime
No person had relief,
noxious spreading disease,
notorious caused deaths,
nobody quite possessed,
now last rites are given,
noon time clock is ticking,
noose hangs unforgiven.

Last Rites
When you have
an hour to live

what matters then
is Christ in a pyx

in the vest pocket
of an old priest

called at midnight
by a nurse

who drives miles
through sleet

and finds your room
in the hospital

Premium Member Occasional Puffs of Wind
Green patches
of lawn
surrounded by
flurries of leaves
demarcation lines
peace zones
Occasional puffs of wind
light, easy, unhurried
scatter a few stragglers --
swept along
a couple or three meters
then still
at rest again
they await last rites......

Come Summer
All my shadows fall
into the summer
My berry kissed lips
call you

We fall so hard
when winter returns
My red eyes cry
for you

A cushioned blow came
on autumn ground
My mind tried to
forget you

Last rites bluntly read
upon spring's bed
I will not live
without you...

5 Minutes
They won't give me the Last Rites

because all the Priests are in Prison.....

A stranger might say

they love me......

A little girl might even wave to me while

she rides in a passing car......

YET......I can be charming for 5 minutes

then

I'm

Lost...

Life
life is left, right, down and up
life will throw you all around
life will smash you into the ground

life will build you higher than before
life is not about worry anymore

life is cruel and life is nice
life is for a bargain price
life is looking down at all the sights
life is wishing you had your last rites...

Four dead Jesuits,
now confirmed as child
molesters, but when alive
these monsters’ crimes,
were covered in
obfuscation.

And when they passed,
were the Last Rites recited
and are they buried
in sanctified grounds?

May their rest be as
unrestful as their
victims lives and
and the fitful sleep
of their confessors....

Chewed some
used gum

Got sick
real quick

In shock
saw Doc

Turned white
last rites

Then bled
soon dead

Bells rang
cling-clang

Grave made
taps played

Laid down
in ground

'Used sod'
pleased God

Star light
good night

Redemption
David J Walker

The unrelenting quest
For the rest of
What was meant to be said
The best intentions

	Mislaid
Mislead conventions
Discarded convictions

Colors of lost horizons
Least of the left last rites

The Vespers
	of whispers
The worshipers
The shoplifters
			all
	Seek redemption

Before the end of the end
Of the evening
		To come...

December, and the Light is Low and Cutting
Sky filters through scant woods
printing a cold sunlight on shadowed tree trunks.

Only December has this light,
it both scours and forages,
it scythes away all heaped-up flotsam.
A December wind,
sings its own death song.
Ice hangs unseen upon the air.

The woodland acres shimmer,
then tremble upon a long fading note,
one that ushers in
last rites and other mixed blessings....

Precious Moments
Slowlly strolling down Lovers Lane,
Where twilight's brisk breeze, blows blossoms astray.
     Sweet scents from fragrant flowers,
     Perfumed petals, beguiling ballet.
     Springs special, curtain call,
Shows sunset flame, a starlit sky.
And shooting stars, swan songs last rites.

Last Rites
Frozen body in
         in the icy river
A young woman
          met her fate early
She wanted freedom
    But she found
Let the night come
   A single candle burning
cuts through the gloom
In lands of shadow
Where can a soul find peace?
    Old answers no longer
suffice
As the old tent - maker said:
"...sultan after sultan
with his pomp
abode his hour or two and went his way"...

Last Rites
The door had been
opened before you passed
    through it
Light in the window
     heralds a new day
One song away
     from the effervescent
joy
     Only if you reach
out
     to the light
will
    you
        taste
     the joys of
laughter - and
    the hopes which
 float on the breeze
       Let the dawn
fill your cup
    Drink deeply
of tomorrow's wine
    the nectar of
grace awaits you...

Bill of Rights For Husbands
That’s not my elephant, this here’s Ella my wife
She claims the extra pounds came with her change of life

She now takes ballet, but watching her dance in tights
Sends chills down my spine and gives second graders frights

Her plate’s piled high with lasagna and spaghetti
Chowing down on our drive to the Serengeti

I think every husband should have a bill of rights
“Euthanasia,” I’ll plead, when they read her last rites...

A Commendation of September Light
Hymnals of light in the autumnal woods
shafts of sunlight
printing prayers on every shadowed trunk.
Only September has this light,
October will come with a witches broom,
a stiff switch to scour and scythe,
that light will be a death song
one sung by ancient and native winds.
For now, maybe just for this day,
the woodland acres glow
they seem to tremble slightly
as a gentile sunlight
ushers in last rites and blessings....

Fairy Tale
To live up to your expectations and satisfy your sensations is unrealistic when
your thoughts become sadistic. I've crossed the line of a sullen girl with no
warning or signs. So i go dark and deep inside a soul crying to sleep. Now I
step inside her thoughts and this is what I find. There is no light. There are no
freedom or rights. There are no angels in white. There are no heroic knights.
There are no last rites....

Wails of a Song
The coda of mourning jays vibrates In bittersweet tracks when daybreak scans An almost whipping backdrop, hushed By low warbles from birds’ paean; Indistinct as dusty sketches— Throaty on a lane of funeral’s last rites; Where the hazily drawn view turns bland Moistening wail of eyes with a muted song, Tunes stale, while jays drone on the horizon. Premium Member Tightly Grasps His Soul
He that walks most tall amongst men
amongst men has the furthest to fall,
when in ancient times in yonder Scar Ghyll
brazen stood the hanging tree
without redundancy.
The morning had not yet spoken
waits upon sunrise, natures trill,
only one man there stands broken
facing the north wind’s icy chill,
a storm cloud rolls in
the preacher reads the last rites
talks of redemption
this illusion stabs the mind
the noose tightly grasps his soul.

Breath
Three men were hanging
On the balance of life

One man dreams on a full lunar eclipse
That a black door was about to close
And an orange star was in opposition to a pink moon

The 5 year old BMW they were riding in
Lost all of its electrical power under a Mercury retrograde
Locked in a four-door coffin rolling down the interstate

Pray for fresh air
Pray for the power steering to turn back on
Pray for an emergency lane

Three last rites
Two birthday memories
One last breathe...
