Occasional Puffs of Wind

Green patches of lawn surrounded by flurries of leaves demarcation lines peace zones Occasional puffs of wind light, easy, unhurried scatter a few stragglers -- swept along a couple or three meters then still at rest again they await last rites...

The leaves on the ground waiting for last rites is a sign that old man winter is not far behind. I am already looking beyond it to spring. All the best my friend. John

And I sure wouldn't mind seeing last rites of Old Man Winter a little prematurely this coming season! Thanks, John. Cheers, Gershon

I am in the grip of wondering how bad winter will be this year, and I stumble upon this one reminding me it is only a matter of a few weeks until it will hit with full force. Thanks for the reminder.

May your worst premonitions about winter not come to full fruition---May it be a mild winter in your neck of the woods (and mine too!) :) gw

Good one, I haven't thought of last rites for leaves. I am not fond of them.

The reader is always right---esp. when not wishing the writer his last rites. Cheerio and Cheers, Chris. ~ Gershon

Hi Gershon, I do love poems where your mind can take a few different meanings out of the words written. This is one such piece for me. One can look at your write on two levels, the first, nature, of course, the second Human. Firstky we watch the few straggling leaves being blown away from the rest, here, it is usualy piles, blown in all directions. Secondly, the human aspect. we are all blown along by lifes breeze, not always in the same direction. Your friend....Mike. Love the content.

Wow! Such an insightful comment! You, a true Poet, see more in my words than I intended or saw myself, honestly. Now that I've read about the two levels of meaning you've identified, I see what you mean. Thank you so, so much for showing me what's there in this poem, my friend. I certainly had had no idea of the human dimension... Cheers, Gershon
