to look at the people
who's faces have
slipped out
of their contours
slid down
to rest
on collars
features
dripping down
on the
ash grey asphalt
and
under lonely lampposts
everything
fades
into puddles.

The fluid rhythms, realm of rain
Where lamplight’s stream did gild the lane
Wet leaves dripped dreams from tinseled trees
And pulses flowed like rolling seas
On raised thorny stilts
Marbled lampposts, lifted eyes
Clawed leaves for soft filth
The spider grown fat,
And hard, and round, and callous
Like hogs, blinds the sand
I know my species
