shafts of light among taller, barren trunks
dogwoods blossom, a herald
as the woods come to life

his work
made me alert
he spoke of hope
in his words
have you ever herald
of a true poet and friend
THE
WORK OF JAMES BALLWIN
Thunder growls in the distance herald storms;
Dark clouds sneaking across sky
They’re up to no good.
The shimmering sun
Raised into the morning sky
Herald the new day
All its glory, all its light.
Are the gift from sun goddess
Sapphire-tinted bells herald life anew
springtide’s dulcet birthstone watch,
omen of fragrant bloom

Autumn
Golden companion
To the swiftly ageing year,
Herald of Winter.

A baby is born
on a bright sunny morn
Baskets full of dreams
herald angels all sing
Will the world rejoice
with a unified voice
mellifluous sounds
join silent golden trumpets ~
to herald in spring

With the light in his

SPREAD THE WORD
England glides in grace.
Heartfelt Oak and Sage herald
Its faery language.
English lightens weight,
Glides through fae-tinged tales to wake
Syllabic rebirth.
Refracted and ignored the
beautiful bent waves spawned from fusion
dilute within our spectrum, the
herald of the heat the
light, the
chloroplasts' delight!
When Winter's King, I'm curled up tight
As Spring takes wing, I burst forth bright
Summer's green I herald, luxuriant glory
Fall leaves behind my color-kissed story
cardinals in flight,
whistling through the morning chill ~
flame against the gray.
bright crest to the sky,
a cardinal at dawn’s light ~
spring’s first herald here.

Sentinels were gathered upon the pond
dressed in their best green beau monde'
Waiting to herald the birth of first bloom
as twins were whelped from Lily's womb
Herald the black and gold
Helmet's ebony eye
Heroes of Iowa
Heartland fall warriors
Hefty touchdown trophies
Hometown game day glory
Hawkeyes football is back!

Anticipation resounds
Four candle flames dance
Stars lamp His divinity
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing!

For eighty-four years, Christmas Carols
Have been a part of my life as angels herald
The joy of the season
Giving us a reason
To celebrate man's triumph over life's perils
The war-dogs chew at the throat of Man,
Killing as canines can,
With drooling jowls and fetor that fouls
The air, with harrowing warrior-howls--
They herald the End with their yelps and yowls.
