Not Sofa King Cool
A
College Dorm sleeps
Four per room
Keg party
Loud
Too much Boom

           A
Drunk freshman sleeps
Where he falls
Coeds toss him on
The sofa
Instead of snooze in
the halls

            A
Sorority girl
Named him
“Sofa King Tool”
Now he feels like a Fool
Not Sofa King Cool...

Everybody's Friend
He tried so hard to be
everybody’s friend, agreed
with everything we said.

Some of us liked him,
others were indifferent,
some of us mocked him.

He was from a small town,
a freshman at a big school.
He echoed what we said

before we finished saying it.
There was nothing we could do
to find out what he never said.

Empty Heart
Found this poem I wrote in my
freshman year in high school
(2006)

Why does my heart beat
I am alone upon this earth
No one to love me
No one to hold
No one to touch
No one to call my own
This feeling in my heart
A hole I can't fill
Everything I touch, driven away
So here I am
In solitude I lay
On this lonely, lonely valentines
day...

Pearl
Guarded by the sea,
lying lonely in her bed
of silver shell.

Her disguise is sublime.
Objects of desire are rare
and hard to find...

Pearldivers, take care
I once let her slip through
my freshman hands,
so precious was she, hard to hold.

Every day i dream
about that pearl. My diver's
heart lies close to hers,
at the bottom of the sea....

First Contact
I was a freshman at wellington and wise
when a sure footed poet pulled out her knife

my head was split open and locks spread foursquare
my flesh cut to servings and tongue sliced de jour

the high poetess then clawed out my heart
before she devoured me bite after bite

the freshman departed, the poet refrained
with a big wet smile from verse to verse...

Premium Member Hot August
In hot August I’ll make my departure,
the trembling freshman imposter,
to dance with unknown partners,
in our quests to join the rosters
of future scholars and doctors.

Like Columbus I’ll journey not knowing
exactly where I am going -
and like our brave-foolish captain I’m hoping
that the planned years of furious rowing,
will deliver me to where (I think) I am going....

wanna fly away and find some zen
and some cute men

Three a.m.,beloved, longtime friend!
Would you relish tea and crumpets now?
Rushing in fast from inspiration bend!
My eager freshman pen, doth brightly allow.

Ideas grope their way, demand their say.
A bright silver clash,as butterflies dance.
Images, each, powerfully,want their way
As passionate lovers in moonlit romance.

Premium Member Higher Education Undone
There once was a freshman from Thomaston
In ignorance wanted to have just fun
When facing failing grades
Played even more arcades
His higher education now undone

Premium Member Arguments
I have another piece that's too long for the poetry section - so it's in "Short Stories."

It's called "arguments" - about my summer vacation between freshman & sophomore year (at university).

I know I could take things out - to make the piece shorter and fit here - but then it's not what I wanted to say *shrug*

Here's the link:

High School
Countless memories,
Laughter and tears
Always to be remembered,
Moments of these past four years

Freshman year,
Brand new places
It's a fresh start,
With many new faces

Sophomore year,
Better knowing
Waiting for the end,
Always growing

Junior year,
Almost there
Many tests,
Better prepare

Senior year,
One last year
After this you'll be gone,
It's reason for cheer

All the drama,
Between boys and friends
Not knowing what to do,
Having to make amends...

Premium Member My Very First Night
With Jethro Tull playing in my ear
On a night whose memory I still hold dear
In my college dorm my Freshman year
Of virginity status I stepped clear

The intent was to study history
Biology, to me, still a mystery
I could sense her scooting close to me
When we got to D-Day there was victory

Our relationship didn’t last too long
My performance that night wasn’t real strong
But the memory still brings a big smile on
Of my very first night in a time long gone...

With Out Saying
He left without saying goodbye
How could someone so young die?
I’ll never forget the day
When our principle came in to say,
“We lost a fellow classmate today.”
Our heads went blank our bodies still
No one wanted to believe these words were real
Over half a year has gone by
And alone at night I still cry
He was the freshman clown,
Known, by most of the town.
He was so young when he had to die
And was never given the chance to say goodbye
Dedicated to PRJ 09/19/85-09/28/99...

Spicy Bell Pepper
Stop watching me with those derisory eyes
sweet like bear claw
spicy like a bell pepper
give me back my barette
I'm not letting my hair down'
from cooties to copacetic my biggest disease
jus like when u was freshman
lost your retainer cried all day
give me back my fanny pack
you kept it all those years
crazy grifter lost on the freeway
looking for route 66 in a gay way
why you back jerk off?
scads of luv but to late
here's a sawbuck go call someone who cares!...

Elijah Muhammed, Stalin, Castro, Marx, and Xi
I wonder why A.H. is an absentee

O, I get it -- Good things come in fives

You Are Not Alone
"You are not alone!" the sign was quite blunt;
phone number posted for the Crimson Corps.
Mental health of students at their forefront
as a cream and crimson fellow mentor.
Signs some IU students seem to ignore.
the Corps understands when students get blue.
Help must come before depression breaks through.
Fellow students remind freshman - take heed,
first year away from home, tough to pursue.
Help looks for and listens to peers in need.

Aunt Grandma
Aunt Grandma

I missed that you had an Aunt Grandma
Until I just read it again
It brought up so many questions
Just where does a fella begin
How does one get an Aunt Grandma
Is your dad’s sister really his mom
Did she make a mistake as a freshman
Attending some senior prom
Did they hide it by telling your daddy
That she was just a big sis
Or is this too touchy subject
I’m sorry I couldn’t resist

Mdailey	3/31/12

A facebook comment mentioned she had an Aunt Grandma. I could not pass that up....
