Emu’s can’t fly. Hens lay
Emerald-green eggs in
Expansive leaf lined nests.
Each emu egg would make
Enormous omelets
Envisage eating that!...

His wings but one-tenth

in short, a groundling 
in a bird’s disguise....

There were three men who chased an emu.
He apparently escaped from the zoo.
Came the fourth with a net.
The emu he did get.
Last I heard the emu would sue!

Eyes are beady light brown.
Every emu’s flightless.
Eat pebbles to digest.
Easily fooled not smart.
Extra long legs run fast....

   "We have a pair of wings yet cannot fly!

      I guess its just our bad luck

         That we can't cruise like a duck.

            Why have these things?  I'll ever ponder why!"

Lonely trees on lonely roadsides
In dusty paddocks scarce water to abide
A hot dry northerly blows from the red centre
Gives no relief from the summer’s measure

Kangaroos lie in the gum tree’s shade
Idling the long hours in a lazy escapade
An emu flock gathers slowly walking across the road
An ancient land in a tough abode.

It's perfectly true, there's a blue kangaroo,
    Where an emu once flew, upside-down.
    There's even a lion, that's made of pig iron,
    While the polar bears fur's eiderdown.
    With a tiny sardine, of green plasticine,
    It's where cuckoos spring out of swiss clocks.
    Whatever it seems, they're not idle dreams,
    They're all playthings, in my little toy box.

“Hi Sexy”, I said to 
The giant beaked black emu;
The next thing I recall,
Big yellow beak heading
At me, full speed ahead
And I quickly stepped back.

Stalled claws gripped the ground;
Halting bird staring;
Obsidian eyes
Screamed in confusion;
Rejected big bird emu;

Approached slowly.
I held out seeds,
His feelings hurt;
Still, he ate them.

We remained 
Friendly and 
A few more

Seeds he
Partook;

Dined....

We rode on a bicycle made for two,
    While on vacation, to visit a zoo.
    Where we strolled around, enjoying our view.
    Of North America's, wild caribou,
    To friendly llamas, from far off Peru.
     And an African antelope, the gnu.
     Then watching pachyderms, while in the queue,
     We observed birds, and a flightless emu.
     To big cats and reptiles, farewell adieu.
