" Do I look EMUSED?" Quote by EMU bird mistaken for an ostrich. Emu second largest. Eggs bright emerald green. Eyes are beady light brown. Every emu’s flightless. Eat pebbles to digest. Easily fooled not smart. Extra long legs run fast.

You’ve cracked the conundrum… how can a bird not fly…. It’s all those flaming pebbles! Congrats on your win and on your nomination for the Nobel prize for natural history.

Hello my sweet friend Svvie! This is so cute in your description of the emu. I love emus and ostriches, but I am respectful as well. They can be aggressive as you know. Congratulations! :)

Never seen an ostrich and I cant say Emu's are my fave bird. but like a lot of Aussie natives they have peculiar traits which makes then interesting to write about. Thanks for your lovely comment Laf.. I am behind on my poetry reading. my granddaughter and her intended arrive in less that 2 weeks for a month, I have to de-dog our house as Jem is allergic. Not easy when you have a 69 kg dog that literally lives inside..lol. All good wishes, Svvie.

I guess there isn't a lot known about our big birds, Jo. Our Cassowaries have been known to kill people. Thanks for stopping by to read my poem, Cheers Jo.

Flightless and digest, how creative is that rhyme, for real! I am always in awe of the way you weave words, you are so talented and the way you describe things like Emu here is so profound and unique. I love “ extra long legs run fast” how cute is that: they are pretty emus, i didnt know their eggs were light green: this pleiades is very informative. Excellent! Goodluck for the contest

- For this species of bird, the females actually dominate the males, and also compete with each other for the male's attention...maybe not so stupid after all, S.V. :))) - Great written, best wishes in the contest :) - hugs

Hi Anne Lise. The emu has the reputation of being one of the least intelligent birds. Scientists who have studies all species of bird put the Emu's intelligence just above a turkey. But you are right, cause the female lays the eggs but its the male that sits on them til they hatch. Maybe scientists studied more male Emus to get that result.! Thanks for your comment. Always valued. SV

Great description, imagery. If you don't have to chew, I may try that pebble thing, poor digestion another blessing of old age:)

I'll send you some Kwik Eeze They are a pleasant tasting lozenge that you suck to help your digestion. Leave the large pebbles to the old man Emu. lol Thanks for the comment Joe. Always love to hear from you. Best wishes from Oz land & SV

Thank you Jay, I couldn't even fit that they love to swim and are are very good swimmers ! Its fun writing about our native birds and animals. So little is known about them by people from other lands. We are quite remote down here on our island home. Warner Bros. showed the world what our Tasmanian devil is like ! Cheers my friend, thanks for the comment. Appreciated as usual. :) SV

Hello dear SV. I too, love this Pleiades poem of which you are exceptionally great at. So cleverly written with knowledge woven in. I must admit, I am a little wary of birds especially big ones but I do love all creatures. I also love visiting your page as you can write about any subject dear SV and I look forward to seeing what is there waiting to greet me to enjoy. Keep inspiring me. Hugs and love to you.xx

Oh Christina, what a lovely comment. Your own poetry is a pleasure to read also. I think Soup is a big melting pot of ideas and inspirations. The little we each offer is paid back from the inspiration others offer us in return. As for big birds, Emus are Not always friendly. Years ago traveling to another state in a Combie Van (back in our "hippie days") my husband and I were stopped for a break and I brought out some snacks . From nowhere came two large emus. I foolishly tried to shoo one away with a piece of food in my hand. It lunged at me grabbing the food and nearly my hand with it. We had to flee the seen and drive away as they were becoming quite aggressive demanding food. I have always been wary of ones in wild life parks since that (although those ones are tamed, and fed regularly, ) Many thanks, this comes with every beast wish from SV

Oh wow, quite an intriguing Pleiades poem this is, dear SV. The way you've incorporated these interesting facts about Emu within these brilliant poetic lines, ah, so creative of you! "Eyes are beady light brown" I'm loving the descriptions here. And the way you've rhymed here too, just beautiful! A lovely creation :) best of luck!

Meticulous description of Emu. Very useful details for anyone interested to learn about birds and beasts. We had two emus in our college nurtured by the Zoology Dept. Great entry for the contest. All the Best !

Thanks so much Valsa dear friend. It would have been unpatriotic of me not to choose the 2nd largest bird in the world! If not treated well in captivity they can be quite vicious, especially if you have food and don't offer them any. Cheers SV

SV, Your Pleiades poem is truly captivating. The charm of the letter 'E' shines brilliantly in every line, casting a spell of enchantment over the reader. Emu, something new for me, and your introduction of their beauty and symbolism is really cool. BOL for the contest.

Thank you so much Lasaad. Emus aren't afraid of people. Even in the wild they will approach to be offered food. I have had it happen. Its true that the do swallow quite large pebbles. These serve to help break up the food they eat, as they don't have a well functioning digestive system. A strange fact. Your lovely comments are really appreciated. Best wishes from SV
