Drowning
Quite suffocated,
chugging a salty water.
Drowned to shout for help....

Laundromat, 9:12 P.M.
Sixteen unique individuals
sit on sixteen washing machines.

As they make small-talk
they stare at sixteen dryers, all in a row
chugging and churning to the same hum....

Without saying to come and get me
Know today, tomorrow this will be
Our lives are best spent together
We are more than what is not said
This destiny riding eternal rails
Chugging along while I have track...

Chugging down the tracks, kids ride the zoo train.
Each holds an ice cream cone while it does rain.
It winds all through the zoo park
Slow melting flavors does mark
With pleased hearts, sticky hands to entertain....

Washing Machine
Something is wrong with the washing machine
It's supposed to save me time
The sound of it chugging and whirring away
Is simply quite divine

I'm not quite sure how it happened
The process need some refining
'Cos when the washer has finished it's job
I'm always left with the Ironing....

Is It Today
Is it today?
Will I finally be me?
Not ill, not sick
When will this be?

Is it today?
I wonder as I go for my glass of water
Chugging down these magical pills
Will I again be my mother's daughter?

Is it today?
They say it’s not forever
You can and will get better
It will just be whenever...

Crumpled, Discarded
afloat on a drifting thought
about how she turned out
to be really right

     about how wrong he was
     in brushing her mood away
     as part of the night;

now he feels discarded
as a crumpled wrapper
there by the gutter,

     desolate as the chugging
     of the midnight train
     muffled by the rain....

The Runaway
Scorned because it was true
her boyfriend said we're through
Mom and Dad couldn't believe
their little girl had conceived
disgrace written on their face
she grabbed her packed suitcase
waiting on the station platform
overhead many dark clouds formed
slow chugging of the train
tears camouflaged by the rain

3-6-18...

Greener Days
Green grass crunching under his toes,
Green peas steaming into his nose,
Green shamrocks flowering his lawn,
Green beer chugging making him yawn,
Green tea sipping all morning ,hoping to cure.
Green money flowing foolishly to promises un pure.
Greenbacks so beautiful paying unjust deeds
Green turning into greener days of greed....

What the River Can Deliver
What the river can deliver
Is a sense of calm and peace.
While it’s flowing, it is showing
Me anxiety’s release.

Sun rays glisten as I listen
To the slapping of the waves
And the chugging of boats tugging
Is a sound my spirit craves.

For my money, when it’s sunny,
There is not another place
Where just sitting is befitting
All the stillness I embrace....

Cracked
They said he'd cracked,
like a jar in the wind,
ajar to within.

Grumbling gears in an attic of a mind,
cranked with the resiliency of an old steam engine,
chugging along.

Muddy cigar for the failures,
basement couch for the come-backs,
after being knocked off a hundred times,
the podium has never had this many scratches,
climbs back up every time,
but gallows are never very accommodating....

Pre-Storm
The wind picks up, the clouds roll in;
A storm, real soon, may yet begin.
The river roils, the birds steer clear,
Confirming that it’s coming near.

And still I sit, as others stroll,
The day still firmly in control.
The forecast may, in fact, be wrong,
As some suspected all along.

The blue’s receding from the sky;
A single boat goes chugging by
And if, indeed, some rain we’ll get,
The worst will be I’ll run home wet....

I portrayed the knave of hearts again,
A role it would seem I was made for.
I ventured off script and silenced my critics
By drinking them under the table.

Classically trained in the tavern arts,
I’m a boozy, bibulous sot.
A virtuoso of chugging a tankard,
A maestro of downing a shot.

I've been typecast as a barfly.
It's the same old morality play.
I’ll adlib my lines to upstage the lead,
And be star of this grim cabaret....

Premium Member Christmas Choo Choo
The Christmas Choo Choo is coming around the bend.
The joy she gives to children simply cannot end.
We are happy to see her, she brings such enjoyment to us.
She’ll be here in a minute, chugging on the railroad truss.

The Christmas Choo Choo is coming. She’ll be here in a bit.
She makes our hearts go pitty pat, she throws some into a fit.
I love everything about her; she makes me excited as a nitwit.
The Christmas Choo Choo is here. More later, now I sit....

Return of the Tourists
The Circle Line is chugging by,
The tourists coming back,
Perhaps because the vaccination
Rates are right on track.

Museums have been opening,
The Gardens and the zoos.
The clubs are back in business;
There are many things to choose.

I’m not quite ready to step out
From inside my cocoon,
But as I watch life moving on,
I hope to do so soon.

Before I travel, first I’ll try,
Like tourists on that boat,
To wade into the sea of life
To see if I can float....

Train

Locomotive rumbling - chugging train
Diners, sleepers, small caboose – no disdain.

Iron tracks to train the tracks of the train
Sometimes runs on mobile tracks – a seatrain.

Travels through the wayward wind and rain
Through valleys, moraine – mountain steep terrain.

Freight trains loaded with orchard fruit and grain
Thunders through wild wilderness and plain.

City stations, old depots to maintain,
Whistle stops, lonely nights – train refrain....

Chug-Chug-Chugging
A little Coast Guard boat just now
Went chug-chug-chugging by.
It left behind a wake, above which
Seagulls like to fly.

Aside from that, the river’s calm
With not a tug in sight,
Although a ferry might come soon,
Their schedule kept tight.

It’s chilly so the benches are
Unoccupied as well,
But since the sun is shining,
I’ve been captured by its spell.

I’m happy to be out here
As I sit and write this poem,
Knowing when I’m cold or hungry,
In five minutes I’ll be home.

Taking the Boat
A brand-new ferry leaves its dock
One block from where I live.
It feels like it’s a present
That the city chose to give.

For I can ride downtown upon
The river’s gentle swells,
Escaping all the subway’s crowds,
The litter and the smells.

I tried it out today and found
It pleasant, fun and fast,
Absorbing different urban views
As we went chugging past.

Right now it’s like a secret
For the lucky who have scored
But I’m sure when word gets out,
It may be hard to get on board....

Premium Member Hot Summer July
the sun is far from us
yet it’s glare feels close enough to light our souls on fire.
the day appearing like a ghost town in Nevada
chugging buckets of water on the old wooden porch.
all i’m expecting is that rolling tumbleweed
but the dry grass will do
the humid air doesn’t care
for the wind begs to sing
but no voice it brings
to calm the hot sheets and sizzling skin
even the fan exudes that humid heat
but the clothes dry in the mean time.
so maybe
it’s only best to stay at rest....
