I am lost in the dark again.
Can you help me find my way,
and the pieces that fell away
in my stupor?
First was brightness; it dimmed
Until, at last,
it fizzed out with no fanfare
and rolled down an empty drain.
Humour was next,
so bogged down by bitterness
that it didn’t land,
unceremoniously splattered on the road.
Love was last, and it surely died
under the wheels of life.
Love is roadkill; salvageable,
but never the same again.
I am lost in the dark again.
Can you help me find my way?
And this time, get me out
into the safety of morning?

the air of our quiet breathing
the bower bounce on which to live
outlasting all the blooms and bells of time
sweet to inhale in fresh woods and on sunflower hills
in an ever-changing dance
come ruins of unseasonable change
from bending heat
from lightning strikes
to flame the forests
particle showers like white fire singed
twinning thin air with a polluted cling
overhanging smoke
for cities in a gray-grind swim
just an environmental blip say some
not the change that threatens human kind
this smoke field as vast as all the world's disorder
what's salvageable?
a will to cherish crystal air that skims our wings
like a New Year's revel
soulful comfort
were we wiser once?
before fire choked the passing clouds
before the cauldron bubbled
the air
atmospheric anchor
vessel of our calling
imperiled necessity
once floating idealism
the changing sails of what we own

rich fertile tree with brown-turning wrinkled leaves
surrounded by your own fruitful bounty
many rounded orbs with teeth marks in them
do Kansas deer have teeth?
begin to count them as I rake them up
one apple, two apples, three apples, four
lose count at fifty-eight or sixty-eight, unsure
it is going to be a hard winter I tell my husband,
sorting these apples is a mess.
some are barely salvageable, squishy and overused
there are few without defects, but I do not blame the tree
she does the best she can, every year
this year she surpassed herself
living up to prediction of Farmer’s almanac
winter will be colder and nastier than usual
which explains this unforeseen number of apples in October

• CHILDREN OF THE SEWAGE-
First I no more I drink not of the toilet water;
I save the sewage for the benign sister and brother;
Children of default blessed not yet salvageable;
They too will be saved;
Students of the sewage clean yourself up;
Lakes and streams floating plastic Dixie Cups™:
One waters of Lazarus arise out of your stench;
You’re dead no more so now you have washed in Jesus whole;
To pierce cleanse and saturate your dirty soul;
All I have to do is usher out speak it allowed;
And believe in Jesus name and then them too;
Will speak out with the purest heart speak;
Aloud from a pure mouth been washed and;
Cleansed in Jesus;
In Jesus name Amen and Amen

No Supper
Round as a planet, dark as the galaxy
the interior looked like the last battle in Verdun
the early spring of 1914.
It had been a healthy preparation of carrots, beans
turnips, potatoes and meat.
Scorched earth tactic nothing was salvageable.
There had been warnings but human insouciance
ignored the smell emitting filling rooms
with the bitterness of a failed supper.
The last question is, can the frying pan be saved?

Sure life is a disappointment, but is it menial?
Salvageable? Palpable? Tolerable?
My brain waves are pondering this.
I am not a philosopher or anything,
yet here I am, thinking again.
Stop thinking! Society tells me.
Follow the status quo.
I am making up my mind.
Let me have a minute.
Life is menial for sure.
I am menial.
You are menial.
Oops.
Sorry.
Did not mean you, Mom!

My house
soon to be
at the mercy
of a catastrophic fire
the likelihood
of salvaging
everything
infinitesimal to nil.
Given a choice
to make off
with just seven things,
I'd choose,
in no particular order...
1. Family album
2. Keys
3. Cell Phone
4. Wallet
5. Computer
6. Flash Drive
7. Wedding Photo

Twelve months later
I’m struggling for a motivator
To get me up in the morning
My life at present is stagnant and boring
Mixed feelings about my ex-wife
Am I missing her from my life?
Yes I’ve dated many people
But none have reached the height of her steeple
I miss the companionship
I’m on constant guilt trip
I think about her every day
When I see her it makes my day
How can I move on from this abyss?
Of desolate lands which the world will dismiss
A black hole in darkness of space
Reminds of the taste of overcooked mace
Do I continue this lie?
And keep looking through my glass eye
Or do I try and be strong
Identify where things went wrong
I need to sort out my life
Perhaps even have a chat to the ex-wife
Is the marriage salvageable or is this a blind spot
Or shall I just un-tie our love knot
Crying is not the answer
I need to eradicate this cancer
That consumes my world at present
Life is not a television segment

Unrequited love haunts
your fantasies and dreams.
And you are left struggling;
to stifle silent screams.
All hearts crave affection;
those denied die inside.
And like a seductress,
lust manipulates pride.
Time warps reality;
letting love drift off course.
And salvageable dreams;
get scuttled by remorse.
Explanations fail the
expectations of youth.
But hidden behind tears;
lies the elusive truth.
You feel inadequate;
unsure if you can cope.
For: life is rife with fears
that can overwhelm hope.
Once stung by rejection;
love oft morphs into hate.
But, in time, you'll forget;
and chase a better fate.

So just what does one do with oneself
When your life knocks you down more than once?
Do you just plant your ‘tush’ on a shelf,
Or frame your act and pass as a dunce.
You hurt less when people laugh with you?
Are you happy when no one’s in sight?
More comfortable at a big do
With no one cognizant of your plight?
Do you quail when tides aren’t your ally?
Do you run to your bedroom and hide?
Is courage always in short supply
When your fears bubble up deep inside?
What qualities do you want in friends?
Is this what you offer to others?
Weaknesses not requiring amends
Good enough for sisters and brothers?
Damaged folk may still hope for the best
But settle for just what is offered
They think that they failed some crucial test
And act like their virtue’s un-coffered.
What hurts you more, your wife was a whore
Or she carries on now with no end.
Called upon, can she manage the store,
Has she skills on which you depend?
Take heart my friend, we’re all damaged goods
There’s no need for pretense at our age
Put out to pasture must nots and shoulds
Just enjoy our brief time on the stage.

take, take, who’s on the make? and do some
people have a vested stake?
now tax is surely a painless way, to right
whole countries and save the day,
if medals are struck as some time they may
in honour of those who have made the way,
and what will the legends and letters say
as Ireland and Greece go down the slide,
and Portugal's on a roller coaster ride, (doctors)
have made provision for this long haul way,
no more to boom! It’s bust, bust, bust, so the interest
pillow is a dead cert must! but have our saviours’ today,
managed to saddle still salvageable
economy's into a hundred years of H P paydays..?

Mend the life set before me--
change can be good, a fresh start
Call a repairmen, it is salvageable--
Sever the old ties, new and improved!
Struggles come and go, inner turmoil stagnant this life
Struggles between good and evil
Self improvement desired but laziness overcomes
Spirit of a warrior and muscles of a powder-puff
Change, change, CHANGE!!!
Never was good enough anyway.
Big ideas, that won't come to fruition.
Pain and weakness are your closest friend, closer than a brother.
Death creeps vermicular upon us all.
Continue to walk the road less traveled until the journey's end.

The evil incantations that spew from my mouth
has but concentrated venom embedded deep within
striking down I turn my wit upon
my verbal assualts have wounded many
and for that I am sorry as sorry can be
but scorpions only know how to sting
you can train an old dog new tricks
but I'm no dog I am a lone wolf
a wolf on the prowl for his nightly supper
with fangs sharp enough to penetrate rubber
perhaps I am salvageable
mayhap this lost soul of mine can be found
and then from my sins I ashall rebound.
