Balance Sheet Karma

Reconciling
life’s ledger
hoping
it’s in black

Every deed
and every need
accountable
in fact

Debits
fighting credits
to balance
in the end

The jist of life
through joy and strife
where numbers
— will portend

My Calling at an Intersection along IA 136

A soft breeze whispered
as I stood near a spread
of fields
where my heartfelt story was told.

I recalled the beginning.
The middle was unfolding
and I didn’t know the end.

My assignment
of controlling traffic here
would last two weeks

yet a voice inside
said this was where
I was meant to be.

O, the sky was so blue.

A construction crew inched
along the highway to fill cracks.
My father always said
what was broken must be mended.

I was reconciling with my past,
my memories carried in a breeze.

It was the beginning of summer,
I recall,
ankle-high corn reaching for the sun.
It was a farmer’s labor
a farmer’s pride.

My life was unfolding
a sense of wonder
as cars followed the pilot vehicle
through open lands.

The clouds above passed
as galleons of ancient ships
the sky an ocean of dreams
and endless tomorrows.

ETCHED IN STONE

ETCHED IN STONE

The marks are recently made, I’m sure
And appear like letters etched in stone
There’s a message here for me to find
I can just make out what’s been carved
With a line through it, as if it is halved
Perhaps someone’s changed their mind
Their expectations of love, now blown
But such is the way it goes with amour

Maybe rediscovered in years to come
Two names, one heart, just says it all
If unrequited love had caused the line
But to carve it in stone is a lot of fuss
It is perhaps, a message for each of us
That it takes a long time just to resign
And to accept that taste of bitter gall
Resolved, with more depths to plumb

But these are no more than scratches
A knife gets blunt quickly, doing that
Hard granite, after all’s said and done
It may be why the line cuts the heart
Possible love at first sight, at the start
And rejection soon after it was begun
But underneath it an etched reply sat
A reconciling message and it matches

Premium MemberSunny Side and Shady Side

Sunny side and shady side
They don’t usually collide
Reconciling midday sun
Makes them equal, they are one
Matters least which side you go
Walking fast or walking slow
Same is true for rainy day
Street is wet, each side can say
Walk on here, passerby
Other side’s not worth to try
Its old pavement is uneven
It has nothing to believe in
Crooked houses, beaten slabs
Puddles, parking lot for cabs
Same can say the other side
But it’s pointless to decide
So whatever side you’re on
You are there, then you are gone

She knows when the lights are turned off
there will be light somewhere else
Understanding of connections between life and death
The rains will come and the seeds will germinate
     by the green youth trees

The attraction is there, but also the fear
her world is falling apart as a house of cards
     through the soul's dark night
     A transcendent and celestial experience
the arrival of the journey via divine powers

The frequency, sound and volume adjusted frequently
She testing the woven fibers with burning longing
against a background of nothing but bluish air
The soul longed for so much, a renewal

Listen to the sound of trickling streams
before they merge into the endless sea
A reconciling and humble journey has ended

Adonai authors all,
anticipates all,
altruistically acts,
accomodating* acrimonious aliens,
allowing adoptive access.

Beloved bestows blessing,
begetting bliss,
birthing born-again believers.

Creator conveys
captivating covenental communiques;
creatures cogitate,
construct creedal confessions.

Divine drama,
documented,
drives doctrine,
develops delighted disciples
drinking deeply,
delivering doxologies.

Just like the prodigal son
Who found himself lost and alone
There comes a moment in time
When darkness leaves joy surrounded
By shadows and secrets, weakness

Just like the moment in life
When hope breathes wonder so alive
Through the spirit of those who remember
What it is to know despair, such fear
That nothing in nightmares can compare

Just like the memory reveals
Trembling whispers of inspirations so real
They bring the heart a feeling of light
Grace that appears to bring peace from the doubt
Promising comfort that stirs beneath each prayer

Just like the prodigal son realizes
The way toward home is much more appealing
When there is comprehension of this trouble
Abiding in the winds of seclusion, disillusionment
Burning through the elation, stalking anticipation

Just like the sunlight who rains
Second chances for the kindness of its rays
Reconciling the serenity pleading, praying
For the embrace of a love beyond description
Love like this is more than brilliant – it is exquisite

Love like this is His gift to those who believe Him!

A Morning At the Dam

Fishing with Grandpa Sam
I could feel the shiver
As we headed for the river
The morning air
Was light and fair
A new journey I was taking
I could hear the forest waking
Be there early
Had to hurry
Everyone else is asleep
I had to be quiet with my tiny feet
Did not want to make a sound
Silenced my shoes as they hit the ground
Minnows in bucket
Even had my lucky locket
A special reel
To see how fishing feels
I remember sitting quietly by the riverbank
Good Lord, I send my thanks
This moment reconciling
I saw my grandpa smiling
A memory I do treasure
Within my heart forever

Premium MemberSpiraling Down

Professor Bridges and Senator Hawley
Had an exchange they both scored as a win.
One thought the other was being transphobic;
The other pushed back on supposed pregnant men.

I’m not here to argue one way or the other;
What I find appalling is both thought they won,
And all of their posturing, each for their bases
Has no effect, and convinces no one.

I think we are way past any reconciling.
The treaties are shredded; there’s no middle ground.
Where it’s all headed is hard to conceive of
But I get a strong sense we’re spiraling down.

Premium MemberForgive

Forgive – scripture speaks
Silencing the bitter past, the resentments
The anger and doubt, the suffering

Forgive – God instructs
Delivering mercy, grace, compassion
Never judgement or sentence
No verdicts of imprisonment

Forgive – His word directs
Listen to the heart, the Holy Spirit
Has everything figured out
Listen to the One who teaches souls
To believe, to pardon, to excuse

Forgive – sacred promise of healing
From One who carried His cross
Was nailed to the tree God created
Where leaves danced and bird’s nestled
Never envisaging the shadow, the
Darkness that would cover the earth

Forgive – He gave us an astonishing sample
Reconciling the heart to a God who loves
More than our minds can imagine or expect
With love that is alive, like the forgiveness
Welcoming spiritual restoration, His gift
To those who know He is the answer, the One
Who lifts the veil and delivers us from hell

Forgive – and be blessed by His death and resurrection!

Mark 11:25 (KJV) And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Premium MemberMy Theology

MY theology was formed when Mother taught me the Lord's Prayer.

YOU and I know that what's good for mother is good enough for us.

THEOLOGY, defined as the study of God, is made simple at Calvary.

HE, God Almighty, clearly defines theology for all mankind at Calvary.

ETERNITY'S long-awaited secret is revealed and offered to all at Calvary.

OBJECTIONS are overruled, not sustained; sin's curse is sealed at Calvary.

LOVE defeats and obliterates both Satan's lies and deceit at Calvary.

OVERREACH by Satan and organized religion proves fatal at Calvary.

GOD was in Christ and reconciling the world to Himself at Calvary.

'YES' is God's forever word of guaranteed acceptance at Calvary.

Graciousness

Graciousness reaches out to smooth, to embrace, ruffled emotions
Looks beyond affronts – lifting mercy up on reconciling arms
True thoughtful courtesy caresses inflamed scars like a soothing lotion,

Graciousness reaches out to smooth, to embrace, ruffled emotions
Listens with a chivalrous heart – welcomes kindness compassion born
Sidesteps anger’s open pitfalls - sees past the commotion.

Graciousness reaches out to smooth, to embrace, ruffled emotions
Looks past affronts – lifting mercy up on reconciling arms.

Premium MemberFrankster Not Prankster

There was a man, in the twilight of his life. A misfit in modern society, of fast paced takers. He was given the gift of giving, of the apostles of old. Not just words he spoke, but part of his gold. After giving, and not receiving equal in kind, he had trouble reconciling his nature, in his own mind. He questioned his gift given at birth, and wondered if he should be like the others. But then how could he connect and meet his true brothers. Those who could see within, not just the color and shape of his skin. Or be tolerant of his manner not so social, just because he couldn’t feel the golden rule, in this society he viewed now as a deepening cesspool. If he denies his identity, he will become conflicted and truely lost. No longer connected to his spirit within, or his own boss.
