Dad's radio

I look back at my dad's radio
Shuffling through the channels
Cause the signal is too weak
But my dad will wait in awe

When the presenter starts off at the top of the hour
You'd see my dad fixed in his stool
Still to get to hear the nation address
The words of hope he hopes to hear

It's been many decades now but he's still keen
He's never wavered in what the country could be
And he's served it well
Like a true statesman, he put his family first

The radio brought together the whole village
It's where the hearts converged
And drummed all through the hour
Before the drums kept beating from a distance

That radio has seen the best of the years
From the regimes that got us out of houses to cheer on
To regimes that made it possible for kids to get an education
To the one who built futuristic roads

I bought him a new radio
But it doesn't sound like the old one
But he's eager to turn it on
And not miss the news

rays
of sun
filter through
opaque panels
above the chancel
forming a cross
of sun rays
above
us

they
pray to
God above,
everlasting
presenter of light,
represented
by the sun
God Ra
Ra!

God
will not
be contained
given a name
sufficient for all
God is beyond
the limits
of word

Tv Adverts

Is it just me

Or do you as well

Watch the commercials on T.V

And wonder exactly what on earth
it is they are actually trying to sell

Or are you like me somehow think
we have slipped into some kind of
alternate universe

Because I am sure I just seen the new
Lottery advert

And it was about a village green cricket
match with the team dressed in traditional
Whites

Then the Presenter comes on ready to
bat kitted out from top to toe in Red ,

Helmet , Bat , Pads , Glove's the full monty

Now as tenuous links and connections go
this is the best and only idea I could come
up with

Maybe at the initial meeting to thrash
out some concepts and ideas

The leader of the brain's trust was swinging
a bat around and accidentally hit everyone
in the head including himself

Causing mass amnesia and concussion

And when they all eventually came too
they forgot what product they were
supposed to be selling in the 1st place

And somehow thought it was a brilliant
fantastical idea

Eye of the hurricane is still
Tranquil is, the stillness centre
Distanced from cacophony trill
Yet the compere, the presenter

Fears and desires, engulf our soul
Eye of the hurricane is still
Bliss suffused, heart’s attained it’s goal
Soma nectar does overspill

Drink from the stream, to our heart’s fill
We’re in a realm of abundance
Eye of the hurricane is still
Nodes within form, burst into dance

Void of cessation, reveals truth
We abide with the divine will
Embrace oh hermit, love forsooth
Eye of the hurricane is still

Roars and Whispers Revisited

I remember I roared when I should have whispered.. I lost the purity of message delivered.. should be the gifted but always presenter.. multiple champs but must be the winner.. how could I be saint when I dine amongst sinners..disgust on my plate my wine just as bitter..out in this jungle surrounded by critters.. were so socially stained it gives Lucifer jitters.. some lost in the choir and should have been preachers.. while others had beauty beneath the skin creatures.. have mastered their art hiding flawed mental features.. a skeletons frame still attracting life's leechers.. some deserved degrees but were shunned by their teachers .. while the swiftest to run just remained in the bleachers.. built for a fire there heart pumping ether.. perpetual motion wounds must rest to get closure... Drunken rants edition..

The Final Countdown
I watch Countdown when on tv it comes
for the chatter the conundrums and sums
Sad to see presenter Nick Hewer go
he has been a delight on every show.

Susie is magic with words she's so sound
second to none with her verbs and her nouns.
Rachel who's truly a tremendous whizz
to sum it up she's an arithmetic.

Brilliant with the guests, Nick brought out their best
with his good humour, kindness and respect
So off you go with a big cheerio
you have been loved much more than you could know.

Enjoy what you do, wherever you go
and do it with your usual gusto.

Comm Day 2012

Any excuse to skip
class was good enough for me.
"Senioritis" was hitting me hard,
plus, it was gonna be a good time
hangin' with my TV Production 2 classmates.
     Penn State (Beaver Campus)
  hosted the event,
in the middle of the whole Sandusky mess.
  So we exploited the opportunity
 by making jokes on
the bus ride there.
      The dean introduced himself
to the song "Eye of the Tiger"
  and then sent everyone
   all over their property.
I ignored my room assignments,
choosing to follow a British
girl I had a crush on.
Our journalism presenter,
  the last of the day,
    had never went to school.
  Odd choice--
    Then we were fed,
  and won multiple awards
  at the following ceremony:
being loud, tipping chairs, & making asses of ourselves
before heading on the bus back home.

Mind Games

Memory - that trickster of time
that gives us glimpses, pictures sublime
of rose tinted schooldays, birthdays and more
sandcastled weekends and Christmas of yore.
Yet, seems to paint over the guilt and the pain,
the bullying schoolboy, the weekend of rain.
The empty feeling of love unspoken,
or else the confusion of friendships broken.
As if we need to remember the good
and not the rotten and old dead wood.
Like an old game show that plays in your mind,
a sepia movie that runs in rewind,
a cheesy Presenter says, "Let's see how you've done!
These are the prizes you could have won!"

Here Lies Eleanor

She is one of many, dear Eleanor secluded
in her secular sepulcher,
One of the lonely plenty, a regular within the
   anonymous atoms nebular…

Dreamed of rice, at her wedding
with her sorrows spreading,
She paid the price, with tears shedding
   and one pillow bedding…

Of her loneliness, the nights in waiting
never participating,
Perhaps erroneous, her heart pulsating
   and will abating…

All her lonely people, avoiding the sun
hurting no one,
Brings them to the steeple, with prayers none
   trying to outrun...

Father McKenzie, could not help Eleanor
a social predator,
In his frenzy, using sermons as to metaphor
   a false presenter.

Rest in peace Eleanor Rigby...

Premium MemberBoy Dancer and His Orator Girlfriend--

Boy dancer shudders at his reciting girlfriend,
He wants to leave but she wants the front end;

All his life he's dreamed to be a dancin' machine,
Two-foot spinning, twirling, whirling fiend ;

Girlfriend speaks she's a tremendous orator;
She stands before the audience a skilled presenter;

Boy dancer shudders at his reciting girlfriend;
Stops abruptly standstills to listen;

For you see the speech she shares,
Glorified stories of her dancin' bear;

Good Times

To the Poetry Soup Planning Committee,
many thanks for the great job you’ve done!
Paris weather in August is perfect.
The convention was glorious fun.

I can’t deem one experience greatest.
Every moment of each day was grand.
All the readings and speeches inspired me;
not one workshop was boring and bland.

The presenter who translated poems
of the French masters mesmerized me,
and I’ll not forget Hotel Da Vinci
and the Louvre, with such wonders to see!

On the last night, our dinner at Galette
was divine. Then we had to go home.
Hope it’s not too soon to make suggestions:
Let’s have next year’s convention in ROME!

Written in anapestic meter

If we really had a convention like this one, I'd have to rob a bank to afford it!

And said that his name's Charlton Heston

The Pay Inequality

The pay inequality

So Serena Williams had a meltdown
and in the furore called the umpire a thief
this meltdown was quite entertaining
but didn’t stir me into action.
What shocked me was learning
Randi Toksvik made forty % less than her
Pre- presenter, the odious Stephen Fry made at, the same program.
My mother fought tirelessly for the same pay for the same work
And slowly it has seeped in.
In the merchant navy, the equality has always been practised
it doesn`t matter what job you have the payment is the same
for men and women.
In my nativity, I thought it was the same in the entertainment industry
this disparity in pay must be addressed and end.

Premium MemberSymposia

You are invited to our Symposia on civil discourse--
The keynote lecture is titled 'Look before you leap'
during which you'll have to put your device to sleep--
Note that the presenter is by both sides of the aisle endorsed

After lunch will be a session on self-restraint--
Overcoming temptations to text or to tweet
no matter if done in a manner discrete--
With tips ranging from cutting edge to quaint

Wrapping things up will be a talk on listening with respect--
Featuring "If I understand you correctly then,..."
or "If you will permit me to make a suggestion,..."
~ And that's a preview of what from our Symposia to expect!

Just One Step Away

Just one more step away

from being beginner to expert,

Just one more dish

Left before being master chef,

Just one more book away

From being well known,

Just one more step away

From being listener to presenter,

Just one more step away

From being silent reader to writer,

Just one more story to be told

To reach million hearts,

Just one more step away your goal

That step might be little big

Have steady phase, take it , just one step !
