An old ring, she lost
Found it in pawnshop, one day
Pawned, hungry belly.

Downtown
broad squares
highway
out of these places
every nook and cranny alleyway,
shabby signboard,
makes a terrifying sound
when the wind blows,
we open a very narrow door
and meet an old man
who greets us with a warm smile
across an iron cage
we are always curious
about the treasures buried
in the darkness behind him
They are of no use to him.
Where are you taking all valuables
and putting them away?
from the people
trying to end up hunger
Like the sound of the wheels
of a train moving away,
there was always silence that swallowed the light.
And he was the richest in our town
Of course,
reputation has always been like this
"Not even a person."
What happened to the old man
who took great pride
not having a single person
to pick up the items
Where did his cash and gold go?
Were his poor clients successful?
must ask pawnshop best customer
of the old man,
snoops down
the streets of prosperous pawnshops
in the 21st century mega cities
Tokyo
Shanghai
New York
London,
and Dostoevsky,
We must read his book.

welcome
to my little pawn
shop
I will sell
you my old
teenager dreams
don't worry
everything turned
out better this way.

Dusty windows reflected fading dreams,
Of items treasured now lost in schemes
Of hopes long lost or freshly dashed,
Left in limbo as cheques were cashed.

Love’s Pawnshop
by Odin Roark
Unable to pay the debt
Love is often pawned
Sympathy as a claim check
Stuffed deep in pockets of suffering
Such self-deprecation roams the streets
Perplexed with using the tender
As peace offering to the beloved
A gesture risking resentment
Nothing conducive to healing
Perhaps better spent on survival-type passion
Allusion’s princely blind beggar with pencils
Rewards for the coin-drop sound in the cup
Solicitude’s offering without expectation
Without questionable agenda
Such is the giving spirit
Often in trouble
Never without company
Welcoming emotion’s exchange
Leaving behind longing’s conundrum
To examine itself truly naked
Sincerity’s immunity
Impervious to manipulation
Or desire’s self-deceit
Once the reward
Now but a cast-aside
A melting of chicanery’s
Falsity of spirit
Later
Amidst midnight shadows
A lowly pawn ticket of imagination
Embraces the enigmatic unsharpened pencil
They rest side by side
Atop life’s universal shelter
Where loveless anxiety takes cover
Awaiting another day
Perhaps THE day
When needs will find
Love’s pawnshop ready
To teach them as well
Precious lessons
Somewhere
Out there

(written to go with the tune of "Under the Boardwalk")
Oh, when you’re strapped for cash, and your rent is coming due.
If you gambled badly, and your bookie now is after you,
Down at the pawnshop, you need to be, yeah,
Where there’s laptops, old comic books and fine jewelry.
(Refrain)
At the pawnshop. Oh, what great fun!
At the pawnshop. You can see lots of guns.
At the pawnshop, buyers look all around.
At the pawnshop, losers look at the ground.
At the pawnshop…. pawnshop!
If you’re soon to wed but can’t afford an expensive ring,
It’s the place to go; they don’t deal in really cheap bling bling.
Down at the pawnshop, you need to be, yeah,
Where there’s laptops, old comic books and fine jewelry.
(repeat refrain)

I walk in, It almost feels cold
Letting go to all the unknown
That ring you got me a promise we didn’t keep
a frame of a picture of us
You didn’t stay out long enough for me to need
The key to the house
That we couldn’t afford to love
And here are my mom tears that I couldn’t afford to give up
Then last are the broken promise that were made to keep
I lost a friend, a dad, a house, and maybe me
But you can have it all whatever you need
I’m looking for something that was taken from us
Please pawnshop I’m begging it’s a must
He is ours for us to keep…tell God he belongs to me
He’s too young to be up there
Please …just tell me if you find him anywhere
In dedication of ended relationship, a father who is always in jail, a family home we lost and lastly my 17-year cousin who was take from us to soon

I was in the local pawnshop
When a lovely watch I spied
Just like the one my mother wore
When she was my daddy's bride.
She lost it in our big house fire.
I remember how she cried.
Mama reminisced about it
Until the very day she died.
I knew then that I would buy it,
I simply could not turn aside.
Daddy never could replace it
Though I know how hard he tried.
The price was truly outrageous
Mom would have been horrified.
My prayer is that generations
Wear that golden watch with pride.

I spied it in the window, wasn’t very plain to see
Cos the glass was very mucky, the price I cannot read
Tentatively went into the shop, was dark couldn’t see the way
The man was old and bent, I hesitantly asked to see the tray
It was a lovely emerald, green as the grass at home
Looked longing at it, wishing it was my own
The old man said try it on I smiled and did as I was told
Fitted as though made for me, wish I could mark it as sold
He said looking at me, your eyes match this lovely stone
Belonged to my dear wife she would love you to call it your own
I said I couldn’t afford it, he said there is a way
Would you call in each evening cook me a meal to pay
For the last 6 months I have done that also cleaned the place some
Looks a better place to live and work, it now feels more like home
