At the Pawnshop

(written to go with the tune of "Under the Boardwalk")

Oh, when you’re strapped for cash, and your rent is coming due.
If you gambled badly, and your bookie now is after you,
Down at the pawnshop, you need to be, yeah,
Where there’s laptops, old comic books and fine jewelry.

(Refrain)
At the pawnshop. Oh, what great fun!
At the pawnshop. You can see lots of guns.
At the pawnshop, buyers look all around.
At the pawnshop, losers look at the ground.
At the pawnshop…. pawnshop!

If you’re soon to wed but can’t afford an expensive ring,
It’s the place to go; they don’t deal in really cheap bling bling.
Down at the pawnshop, you need to be, yeah,
Where there’s laptops, old comic books and fine jewelry.

(repeat refrain)

Congratulations on your win, Andrea. With the "boardwalk" theme, this reminds me of the shops along Pacific and Atlantic Avenues in Atlantic City. However, there's not much of a market for comic books.

Fantastic lyrics and I love where you have taken your poem for the 'Pawn Shop' contest. I've always wanted to look for another guitar in a pawn shop, but then I think how someone had to pocket their beloved guitar for troubled times. I would feel sad every time I'd strum the strings. Good luck in the contest. Warm Smiles, Connie

Haha! Neat pawnshop lyrics! You even got the guns in there. I suppose not every lady would think of that so thumbs up to you, Andrea!

I love it, love it! A long time ago my sister and I used to change words of songs into something completely different. It was such fun. I don't have to check the link, I know the song by heart. This is sure to be a winner.

I really enjoyed this fun parody of, "Under the Boardwalk"! Your arrangement of words, syllables, and imagery were spot on—with a playful look at life's hardships. "Weird Al" Yankovic, would either be very pleased or very jealous—well done!
