I was bitten
I don’t know when,
I didn’t feel it, then
came the change~
awake all night; asleep all day,
even the moon would not say why.

A bag of spiders, two toxic frogs
Stolen, according to the police logs

I know this thief was none too bright
By opening the bag in broad daylight

A black widow bit her on the thumb
To poison she would soon succumb

Toxins infiltrated deep into her brain
Sending her loopy, she’s quite insane

According to all the medical logs
She’s as crazy as a box of frogs

Restrained for life on a psycho ward
Her sanity can never be restored

Strapped into a chair writing poetry
How do I know, alas the thief was me!

Give yourself
                   A round of applause.
             You did pull one over on me
             And laughed at my expense.
                 Well-done, grasshopper.

             Well-played, but you revealed
       The tricks of your trade in the process.
                 The jig is up, Mr. Swindler;
                  Now I get to laugh at you
              Reuse them again to snow me.

       You regurgitate the same old methods
               To hoodwink and entrap me.
                   Haven't you no shame?
         You're as transparent as cellophane;
          so predictable I enjoy mocking you.

          You bit me once and broke my skin,
           But now I see you've got no teeth!
                  Born yesterday, my eyes
                     Are wide open today!
      There's no magic in your sleight of hand.

   I've got your number, and you're out of tricks.
                You've tried your level best
            To inscribe "fool" on my forehead,
                But have you checked yours
                      In the mirror lately?

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

Once bitten, twice shy,
You are vigilant;
You become cautious,
Like a shameful plant.

You are now fearful,
As you feel the pain;
You're careful about
Doing it again.

When one rejects you
And hurts you inside;
You are reluctant
To swallow your pride.

You'll never fall from
Grace a second time;
Like refraining from
Committing a crime.

When you are injured
Beneath the blue sky;
You will be on guard,
Once bitten, twice shy.

Once Bitten

And suddenly you wonder why
I’m "once bitten twice shy"
when putting all my faith in guys
I’m vulnerable I guess

I sense your animosity;
it tends to gravitate to me
I don’t know why you’re mad at ME
I didn’t make this mess!

I just grew tired of your lies
and clinging to your alibis
our love was sure to go awry
when putting to the test

I’ve tried to find the good in you
and believe me I have wanted to
there’s nothing else that I can do
but say I tried my best.

Once Bitten -

It must have been quite the fright
everything in your vision out of sight
how to cut the meat
would you miss your seat
ouch!!! my thumb I have taken a bite

Always sweet to the mind
one bite looking through these eyes
shades the blossoms scenting
touching inside deepest cords

Softest emotions grin
begin petal smiling warm
gently in my weakness
is you love hot burning warm

Beats drip honey golden
deep brushing silent fingers
sweetly touching inside
pulse dance, flickering hotly

Unquenchable fire
through the one keyhole looking
on petal coloring
every shade,amber sweeping

To gold on glass misting
gem of life you will always
remain a mystery
sweet beautiful dream

Once Bitten

Gazing happily into this mirrors glass
The purple streak, she left upon my thigh
Her love last night; breast aflame as she slid
Soft kisses, across my lips, swollen; fire and ice..
Meta rushing through these veins her scarlet beauty.

Once Bitten

Something happens, causes stressin’;
Maybe it will teach a lesson.
Caution is the surest guide
To safeguard what you fear inside.

If you let down your defenses,
Possibly, some wrong commences;
Then you’ll question your intention –
Why you risked your gut’s prevention.

Hopefully, the lesson learned
Makes the point for all concerned.
Here’s an adage to apply –
Once you’re bitten, twice you’re shy.

There once was a lion so dread
His trainer must keep him well fed
For if this bad lion
Got hungry for Brian
Old Brian might just end up dead!

Ole Leo the lion acclaimed
Like to play the “I’m so sweet” game
Slow Brian was lulled
And his arm it was culled
Now, the zoo’s out a lion it seems!

Reposted Note(for recent PS friends):This form,which I have labelled 'plus1' in the verse
section starts with one letter,increasing each by one line with just one letter,ie 1:2:3:4:5:
etc.With an integral title.They can be a linked sequence of two 'plus1'.A variation might be a
reverse sequence 1;2;3;4;5;5;4;3;2;1 or perhaps to start with a word of two letters ie
2;3;4;5;6.
If you put plus1 in the searchh feature you'll find others that I posted a year or so back

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

I often recall the days of past
When love was deep, strong and vast
The abundance of dreams once forlorn
Deep inside me, all reborn
He opened my heart to things obscure
Showed me passion true and pure
He unleashed the me that longed to be
Held me up and set me free
Swathed and ruffled wings are now unbound
Soaring high above the ground
A shot rings out in the dark of night
Blindsided; no chance to fight
In a single moment all is lost
An internal holocaust
The pain and anger rages within
A vision of her... with him
All my questions remain unanswered
Falsehoods of the spoken word
With fear and doubt residing within
Will I? Can I love again?
