Beneath the sky’s deep purple hue,
Music calls, the laughter too;
Wheels turn slow, the lights all spin,
And pull us gently further in.
The air smells sweet with candy threads,
With buttered corn and warm baked breads;
A carousel of painted dreams,
It ripples on the moonlit streams.
I watch your eyes in neon glow,
They shine in ways you may not know;
The call of bells, the beating drums,
The thrill before the next ride comes.
We win no prize, yet still we keep
The moment safe, our hearts to steep;
For nights like these are never sold,
They live in us when we grow old.
As the tents fold up tight,
And lanterns fade into night,
We walk back slow, still side by side,
With all the joy we could not hide.
The Fourth of July is almost here,
it will be hot but will it be clear?
Fireworks made me pee my pants,
all wet but I will still dance.
Pretty colors do not run in fear.
Seeing the beauty of the morning sunrise,
then seeing the colorful sunset at the end of my day.
Making someone laugh when I go shopping,
seeing their face go from dull to lighting up.
Nothing is better than a new puppy,
all soft and furry with a kiss from a tiny tongue.
A child's face in wonder,
giving them a double ice cream cone.

"Time... Always here but never here." By Poet
Time my funny friend,
I cannot see you or feel you.
Yet time you are always with me,
from morning until night.
The clocks tick off,
the many minutes and hours.
The calendar takes off the 365 days,
52 weeks and the 12 months.
Time where do you live,
out in space or in the clocks?
My friend you like to hide and play with me,
and with each new day you are right on time.
Time you are my best friend when I am happy or,
my enemy when I am hurt or sad.
This rink ranks right up there.
My power skates, slice each ring,
the scent of ice assails my nose.
Funny in the absence of air, I breathe.
It must be a dream. I don’t care.
The wind of Saturn blows through my hair.
No wind, you say, but I will believe
what this dream gifts to me. Can’t believe
I’ve made it this far. It’s not Mars -
tired of the heat and the bars.
Brightly lit, I see a disco ball in the mist.
I am young again. Giddy boys showing off.
I’m twirling like a pro until I fall
softly onto my fairytale bed,
the one twenty mattresses tall.
I woke up a bit bruised. Saturn
on Saturday night, had no idea,
a princess performed on her rings.
This rink ranks right up there.
I'm in a dream,
Peeing into a stream,
A snake peeped out,
Some on its snout.
A frog close nearby,
Came out to pry,
It got some too,
From me it withdrew.
I found it funny,
The way a bunny,
Growled near a tree,
Far from my pee.
Then I woke up,
I rushed to cleanup
Another bedwetting today again.
Dry night in vain.
Santa sang as he approached the streets.
Couldn't wait to give out some treats.
From the window, he looked East.
He saw there was a feast.
Rode back and had all the sweets.
Frosty got so bored inside on a Monday.
He came out and walked along the way.
He had put on new glasses.
Stood beside a campfire outside the classes.
He cried and watched himself melt away.
Rudolph took Elf on a walk at night.
It was quite dark, his nose shone bright.
Loud Christmas bells made elf's ear slack.
Laughing at elf's ear, nose turned black.
Rudolph couldn't help but run out of sight.
Santa is ready for the big night,
Rudolph's red nose is really bright.
Santa's bag is toy filled,
that elf is unskilled.
The ground is covered in snow of white.
Elf's are funny and cute but very small,
always asking Santa to make them tall.
He said eat lots of fish,
as you make this tall wish.
Santa gave them all a new red ball.
The Elf's wanted to have some fun,
they jumped on Rudolph now run, run.
Santa wanted to kill,
all took a nasty spill.
Their crazy night of fun was done.
Twas the night before Christmas late dinner.
Table set, waiting for Conner, a beginner.
Wondering which turkey will be a winner.
Wild round neighborhood, non any thinner.
Turkeys saw the peaceful neighbor coming,
Plain funny, stomping heavy, and humming.
Toms all disappeared and hid while thumbing
Energetic to all the hens to stop chumming.
Neighbor looked all through the woods becoming
Fully stressed out, he saw his evident shortcoming.
In thought, no turkey round rhythmic drumming
His weapon. In an awkward look, little unbecoming.
Turkeys out of sight, outsmarted in the battlefield.
A series of loud banter yelps filled the field.
Turkey heads yield, poking out the brush, concealed.
Glaze ham dressed like turkey for dinner revealed.
'Twas the night before Christmas at my house
when I heard a noise I knew wasn't a mouse.
And as the kids dreamed fast asleep in bed,
through their window, I saw a flash of red.
I thought raccoons were causing this uproar,
I know what they're like; I've heard them before.
Tipping over garbage cans, they're a pest;
wanting to see for myself, I got dressed.
No one was stirring, so I went to see
what made enough noise to awaken me.
Grabbing a flashlight, I headed outside
where I slipped, landing square on my backside.
Let me tell you, I wasn't in a good mood:
and that fall didn't improve my attitude.
On the roof, I saw reindeer and a sled,
for it wasn't raccoons, but Santa instead.
And Rudolph's scarlet nose was all aglow,
causing a red reflection on the snow.
Santa winked and then disappeared from sight:
believe me, I'll never forget that night.
My wife wouldn't listen to a word I said,
worried that I probably hit my head.
But when I was getting up from my fall,
I swear I heard, "Merry Christmas to all."
It's funny, the random things that remind you
of what a lovely place the world can sometimes be.
Like two little birds alighting on a wire,
as you emerge from the underground
just at dusk on a Thursday:
two weightless silhouettes,
suspended in the pre-star sky.
I wonder what journeys they've seen;
if they are recounting the day's adventures,
or merely resting in companionable silence
as the sun takes its final bow.
hanging slipping falling dream
smashing waking hearing scream
wonder i dont snore
down here on the floor
guest beds like a balance beam.
rainbows at night
crashing waves in the sky
hearing by sight
as elephants float by
upside down lightning
and blue whale size mice
a cute teddy that’s frightening
rolls a one sided dice
under a stripy square sun
we have death without decay
eating cars in a bun
maps not showing the way
building houses with cakes
leisurely walks to the moon
watching juggling by snakes
slurping trees from a spoon
straight hair that’s curled
and understood mysteries
a fair equal world
aah, impossibilities
I lay awake once again
Unable to clear my head.
I wish this storm of thoughts would cease,
And allow me to go to bed.
I dream about the future.
I reminisce about the past.
I think about things I could have done.
A funny thought crosses my mind and makes me laugh.
I try to comprehend the vastness of space,
And speculate about aliens.
I theorize about time travel
And what was there before time began.
I try to count some sheep
But they mull around so fast.
I lose track and have to start over.
How much time has past?
I think I figured out why we have wisdom teeth,
Where Atlantis may be, any why we end prayers with Amen.
I paint a picture in my mind.
Then erase it, and paint it once again.
I do everything but sleep.
Then I wonder why we even need to.
Imagine everything we could accomplish if we didn't.
Probably nothing, just like I do.
