I knew of your special faces
you wanted to be a cool veux
I knew of your cold kisses
we could go out all night
this would be the warm up act
you'd be a cat with mink coat
with atypical makeup
you're a paen of a daughter
with a beguiling and untamed reputation
i need a candle to unlighten your mystery

Serendipitous trippy flakes, when it snows in Georgia;
forecast bleak, cancelled week - not a dent in Minnesota,
but here in the bible belt angels shake their fists
full of gentle flurries. They surround the stately trees
and remind the pines of Christmas past -
January’s our month to shine. Blizzard? White out?
Banks of snow? of course not! This is the South - we lack plows.
We might hazard a walk down the street, the lovely white coat
of fresh paint under feet, but for yours truly, I need deer’s feet
to climb down and up my hill - balding boots will not do.
Flurries a little fuller, twirling, dancing, romancing. Precious
these times - even a robin’s adorned in an imitation
white mink coat, lilting hallelujahs on this holy morning.

Two lovely ladies were walking down the street
Said one to the other, “Wouldn’t it be neat
If my husband gave me some expensive perfume?”
In reply, the other said, “What a message, I think,
Suggesting, in the most subtle way, you stink?
I would much rather have a beautiful mink coat,”
“So,” her friend responded, “that you can gloat?”
“Not at all,” her companion replied with subtlety,
“Because it would be ever so becoming to me.”
“Think of all the minks who would give up their all
So that you might become the belle of the ball,”
To which the former did not hesitate to reply,
“What better cause for the little creatures to die?”
“Such vanity!” --her friend whispered with a sigh.

When the cool snow falls, a white mink coat
wrapped around my toes and shins,
beautiful breeze of ecstatic energy,
I will let this Summer fall
as if it were a lovely gown
folded and boxed.
(after all there are some sweet memories)
A plump, perfectly formed red apple
shimmers in the snow
with one bite —
I’d not gorge on it,
lest I’d die.
(yet there were some sweet memories - don’t forget)
The snow couldn’t keep me inside.
It’s where my dreams abide.
An owl blends into its habitat,
yet it is day,
I don’t give a hoot
I must shovel
and ball up
and throw
and laugh
and twirl
(basically act like a little girl)
and tickle my love’s back
with white crystal
diamonds, that make him jump
and run
after some fun.
(I must believe Winter
will deliver)
I pull my knees to my chest
and shiver…

I wanted a Corvette
I haven't seen it yet
I wanted a Rolex
I am perplexed
Another year
No Rolex here
I'm beginning to fume
Got no trip to Cancun
Everything I asked for
Never made it thru my door
I wanted a diamond ring
But haven't seen a thing
I expected a mink coat
Or a speed boat
Something sexy and lacey
Perhaps a spending spree at Macey's
No candy, sweets, wine or beer
Nothing to smile about, nothing to cheer
I haven't bought a gift in many a year
Why should I, no present ever comes here
So here I sit, in the middle of the rug
Who needs Christmas, Bah Humbug!

Form: I do not know?
A diamond ring, a smile, a house, a car, a love song, or a best friend.
A mink coat, an enormous bank account, what's it all worth in the end?
Wedding vows that meant more to you than they ever meant to him,
All I ever wanted was a normal life and a white house with painted trim.
Diamonds and gold, what is it worth to HEAR him say "I love you"?
Or would you rather SEE what it it that he'll really do?
What is something worth to you, do you value materialistic things?
Or are you like me, and want what is free in life, and all the happiness it brings?
To me, I value a smile and a laugh from either, or both of my boys.
Rather than a man that can buy me expensive jewelry, I'd rather have the simple joys.
