Kenya’s Goddess came in hard and fast
With wind that ruffled the grasses of the savannas
The trees felt her presence and cringed
Wondering if she would uproot them
She is all powerful they warned the animals
The lions stayed to watch, but the meerkats hid

10/24/2023?
I had a most unique, unusual dream!
I woke, wide-eyed and there they stood!
Five meerkats, so darling, not made of cedar wood.
Of the notorious, great mongoose family are they.
Rodent eaters, and plants, by moonlight and day.
Traveling in packs of ten or more, to hunt and to play!

I'm solitary, roaming
The American southwest desert;
Heaving my bulky body -
Covered with bead-like scales
Of black and yellow -
Across hot sands and rocks
In search of prey.
I'm a nocturnal,
Cold-blooded lizard.
I flick out my forked poisonous tongue
To taste the air like snakes do.
Do not confuse me
With a Komodo Dragon,
I'm a much smaller reptile,
And I wear a different skin.
My tail is rather short.
My razor sharp claws are used
To dig burrows and unearth
Buried eggs of tortoises, snakes,
And other lizards.
My diet include small crawlies
Such as rodents, frogs, meerkats, etc.
I don't mind birds and their young!
I'm a Gila Monster

San Diego's zoo
by the sea, the place to be
in February
Home to wild nature's exotic elite
From stately giraffes to meerkats petite
But signs warn their creed
'These beasts, do not feed'
So the free roaming squirrels get the treats!
Tigers and monkeys may get all the looks, but squirrels get all the love~

THE MEERKAT
Meerkats are delightful beasts,
Arousing warm affection
They stand in groups discrete
Looking in the same direction
COW
How now brown cow
A bestowal to the world art thou
Miracle of God's construction
Four stomachs in mass production
THE PIG
Our blessings upon you abound
In our hearts you did awaken
A sense of gratitude profound
For bringing home the bacon
CHICKENS
In these days of Genetic modification
There is a question that begs
Should we yield to the great temptation
To get a chickens with four wings and six legs
THE URBAN PIGEON
I've nothing against the urban pigeon
But could it not maintain a smidgeon
Of caution when it makes its flyway
In the middle of a six lane highway
THE ANT
The ant delights to frolic
In Formic acid vitriolic
But on the tongue of the Ant Eater
There is nothing could be sweeter
THE BULL
His spontaneous emanation
Given without solicitation
Should encouraged him on a mission
To be a salesman or politician

The Day The Aardvark Died Christmas 2017
The day the aardvark died
they wept down London zoo
some danced in Jerusalem
cardinals Christians orthodox Jew
The day the aardvark died
I heard them wail down Regents Park
a city prayed for Meerkats
the zoo closed gates before dark
The day the aardvark died
A giant tortoise cried in her pen
then so did the children of Ramala
Palestine West Bank and Hebron
The day the aardvark died
lions slept soundly in their cage
the Saudi's dropped bombs in Yemen
we stuffed turkeys with onion and sage

Peregrine falcons are built to terrorize the sky,
Fleet-footed cheetahs meant to run down prey,
Insulated penguins with the harshest winter vie,
Through the deep sleek orcas race without delay.
Hummingbirds steal nectar, suspended in flight,
Meerkats stand sentry on sturdy hind legs,
Silverbacks reign with awesome shows of might,
Camouflaged chameleons with the local flora mix.
At a purpose each animal is designed to excel,
And man with an outsize brain equipped to think,
Yet from the state of the world one hardly can tell,
Ours is the race chosen to do any such thing.

There's nothing like a TV ad.
A crass intrusion to a play,
It shreds my nerves and makes me mad.
And some of them are really bad
The products too – they'll make you pay;
There's nothing like a TV ad.
The use of animals is sad :
Chimps “talking”, drinking tea all day !
It shreds my nerves and makes me mad.
But Russian meerkats make me glad,
To buy insurance ? Well, I may –
There's nothing like a TV ad.
A bicycle pushed by a lad
Up cobbled street with brown loaf, aye,
It shreds my nerves and makes me mad.
And now I'll take a break, by gad,
A drink's the tonic, so they say,
There's nothing like a TV ad.
They shred my nerves and make me mad

All aboard the zoo train, let's ride there
Be amazed when you see the mighty bear
Cougars, big cats, crouch inside their lair
Desert tortoises creep, they move so slow
Eagles perch and stare from branches, low
Foxes peer out from within their dens
Great giraffes gawk, their necks extend
Hyenas laugh as they run and play
Iguanas lie and bask in the sun all day
Jaguar is regal, as she paces in her stall
Kangaroos nibble on leaves near a wall
Lions pace, the kings of the jungle
Meerkats hide in small holes and tunnels
Now we can view those amusing apes
Orangutans with their funny faces
Past the fountain, we see the polar bear
Quite a sight, as he swims over there
'Round the bend, we enter reptile land
Snakes that slither over rocks and sand
Tribal music sets the stage to see
Up high, as we look into the banyon trees
Vociferous squawks from bright toucans
Wild echos reverberate over the land
Xanadu dreams, on this enchanting day
You feel you've traveled miles away
Zoo magic memories were made today.

Meerkats stand on mound entrance
Straight, erect, alert watching
Almost undistinguishable stands
A garfield like cat, adopted child
