Zoo By the Sea

San Diego's zoo
by the sea, the place to be
in February

Home to wild nature's exotic elite
From stately giraffes to meerkats petite
But signs warn their creed
'These beasts, do not feed'
So the free roaming squirrels get the treats!

Tigers and monkeys may get all the looks, but squirrels get all the love~

Hi Michelle, sorry I'm just getting back to now on this lovely write. I visited that zoo once when I lived in Ca. back in the 80's (Great zoo!) Congratulations on your win in my contest! Hugs Charlie

A lovely trio of poems about my favorite zoo. The squirrels sure know how to work the system! My favorites are the tigers, koalas, pandas and hippos. Best wishes in the contest.

Interesting: One of my very best friends just took his wife and family of four kids to San Diego, and he promised to tell me about the zoo. He just got back... I'll surprise with your 'Insider Tip' on the squirrels! Thanks! :) gw

Sounds familiar. Perhaps people read the signs the 'old-fashioned' way: 'No Feeding the Squirrels Allowed' = No! -- Feeding the Squirrels Allowed! This is the way kids used to read signs such as: No Littering Allowed... No Swimming Allowed... etc.

When I went, I kept seeing the little kids throwing their popcorn to the squirrels, I guess they were more fun than the major attractions :)

Michelle, you wrote a beautiful poem that met the contest's requirements. The haiku was excellent, as was the limerick. Best wishes for a win

Thank you, Anil, sometimes I prefer reading to writing as well, a good time to restore the soul, I think~
