The first time you see yourself
You cry
Torn between bewilderment
Flattened by view
All white skin
Pink and spotty
The remnants
Of teenage residue
The hormones on overload
Insanity has come early
So easy to bite
Everyone pisses themselves laughing
When you remove your clothes
Now you never undress in the light

Modeled by the skilled and clumsy hands
of artists and artisans into an ideal state of she-ness,
a penniless waif appears on a stool
last week a stranger called her Mona Lisa.
Statuesque upon the betrayer
warmed by the lemon-lolly light from
bays of north facing windows, blinded;
she can but blink.
Surrounded by a
cog-notched cyclical wheel of nubile artists—
blooming buds of wildness, vertical sprigs
flail softly on the breezy bounty of
illumination.
Brush and trowel, thick and thin,
the artists stoke her—semblance
canvased by millennium brush biters
maudlin Mary is returned to the pre-historic stew
by the likes of Claude
polished to a pearly perfection
by type A, Hieronymus’.
They were all strangers to her posers,
every bit as much as she.
Royal pretenders in a world
where only the artless
are paid.
Moneylenders rise on their discarded carapaces
beauty sucked dry by the doers and shakers
who spread like choking bittersweet through
the lollypop-light from the bay windows facing north
consuming Mona.

The whimper of a defenseless child weak and haunting can fill the cup,
of melancholy to age a grail of tears.
The squeal most animal like as heart is pierced
by betrayal a declaration ..almost too real.
The bawl of hunger and indignity the red-faced rage of entitlement,
the dry-eyed warning hail of men from battlements, so many, variations,
so many wet displays, so many maudlin melodies
of man and his betrayal…

In maudlin verse his tale was told,
Of sailors, ships or captains bold.
Naught for us but fancy seemed,
Thought mayhap 'twas what he'd dreamed.
Of sea or song or adventure grand,
We listened well all us of land.
As wind caressed our mountains old,
In maudlin verse his tale was told.
In hope of journey without end,
We all to him our ears did lend.
Thus we found our hearts he rent,
In maudlin verse our day he spent.
His eyes were clouds upon a sea,
His voice cold wind of yesterday.
We found his tale more a plea,
In maudlin verse so swept away.
To us he spoke of sights so seen,
Of wonders imagined in deepest dream.
Of times of riches or days of lean,
To us his tale real did seem.
As he spoke dark clouds did gather,
Wind once swift now grew slack.
Sky once blue took hue of black,
In maudlin verse his tale he'd rather.
Worlds unknown yet discovered,
Moons above us the while hovered.
Maudlin was his tale that day,
Our very hearts so did he stay.

It seems like love,
the longing for love,
the lingering memory of love;
have never been far from my mind.
I think I was born maudlin.

This boozes shan't stop my fig
From scourging my fair filly
From promenading zag-zig
From boozing nilly-willy
I love to gulp
Not because i am moneyed
Not because i bore my relation off
Not because of my job which i misplaced
I will wage war
On those who press me to breathalyse
On those who pity me from the law
On those, who my early death, they prophesy
I will be gay
With does who drink with my tenders
With does who hail me all day
With does Drink Mongers
That time i hate
Was when i thought of my life
Was when i saw my family ate
Was when i thought of warnings
Now i realise
That in my big safe no money
That my cough pains even my eyes
That my body smells like a dead pony
Therefore, this palmwine shan't stop my face
From staggering home like a wally
From snoring in any messy place
From gulping more of shepe, paraga or squaddie
