Scam Likely called me eleven times yesterday
Fifty-two times this week
I do not pick up
I used to though
When I was younger sales calls were a personal challenge to me.
I wanted to see if I could make them hang up first.
Salesman: Do you own your own home?
Me: No, but I would love to. Can you send me some money?
Salesman: Would you love to have new windows?
Me: I live in a tent down by the river.
Salesman: I can give you a terrific insurance quote
Me; What’s that?
Salesman (or Scam Likely): I can tell you how to save money
Me: I save money by not paying for insurance.
When my children were younger, I discovered something marvelous.
If you hand the phone to a toddler, the child is delighted.
Babbling, gurgling and burping into the receiver with glee.
Scam Likely hangs up first every time.

Would you like to see the prettiest spider in the whole world?
I said “No!” over and over.
Finally agreeing, because my week had been boring.
The spider was more beautiful than expected.
I took photographs of it.
It was a gorgeous combination of yellows, navy, pinks and turquoise.
I ended up winning a prize for these photographs.
Now I am more likely to say “yes" the first time.

My I-phone rang yesterday; it was a number I did not know
Next to it words read “Scam likely”
how many people would race to answer this one?
I rolled my eyes, glad for a modern day phone.
In the olden days we would have salesmen all the time.
Trying to sell us siding, cars, a new modern mop.
I used to hand the phone to a toddler until they hung up.
Made the toddler happy too.

I hope I'm not a Silly Cow
Sitting here and wondering how
This phrase came into being.
Take a Gander means a look or seeing
Talking Turkey means to speak the truth'
Simpleton is a silly Gooth.
I'm still sitting here and wondering why,
As I watch a flight of Pigs fly by

He pushed her rapidly to the edge so many times
But she was a good girl, she told herself, shutting out her grandma’s voice
Poison him! Her grandmother urged. Showing her which herbs to gather.
His anger filled the room, wrote despair on the walls of her soul.
Still she ignored the voice, because she was from the Bible Belt.
Bible Belt girls just take their medicine, feeling they deserve it.
He took her to the hospital on the third day.
Another fall down the stairs, the intern guessed.
They got her in a room alone. Tried to get her to speak of his evil.
She deserved this. She had earned it. If she had just been good.
He is going to kill you the next time, one of the nurses said.
Press charges! But if she could just be better, and she knew she could.
He took a hammer to her, a knife, a whip, a chain. She clammed up.
Read her Bible, knew the answers were in there.

There was the recipe. It would kill him with no trace.
She slipped it into his tea, shaking so hard she thought he would know.
He slipped into a deep sleep and never awoke.
The coroner said “heart disease most likely”.
Page 183 more likely she thought, safe at last.

Limericks Lunatics Likely Will Love
Digested, invested, protested.
Reliance, compliance, confidence.
Repeated, conceited, defeated
Repetitive, sedative, creative
Connection, deception, reception.
Tempted, exempted, preempted.
Amenity, obscenity, divinity.
Extension, contention, mention.
Reassured, cured, neared.
Retention, ammunition, suspension.
Liquidate, hate, contemplate.
Elected, protected, connected.
Dissipated, hated, situated.
Devour each hour all the profound power.
Proximity, each extremity in air vehemently.
Distorted, consorted, aborted.
Coincidence, resonance, dominance.
Undeniable, unreliable, viable.
In confide, uncle cried, away shied.
Intellectual, ineffectual, professional.
Resounding, abounding, founding.
Dedicated, decimated, debilitated.

On a winter or fall’s eve, dark and deep,
snuggled in my bed, I’ll be fast asleep,
but online (if Sandman acts unkindly);
there is where most likely you will find me!
In spring or summer, I’ll be having fun
just sitting with my pen beneath the sun
on my patio writing poetry.
There is where most likely you will find me.
Each Friday to a movie house I go
in early afternoon to see a show.
Because I revel in good fantasy,
there is where most likely you will find me.
If I’m not at work or shopping, it’s a time
I can relax or lose myself in rhyme.
In my home with hubbie, feeling comfy,
there is where most likely you will find me!

Hardly...
If good times do roll
Likely...
Do bad times if holds
Too often...
We only speak the likely words
And hardly we listen....
Dare I say we know the when... heard
We change...
Perhaps when finally we digest
Did we maintain...
When the living knows no rest
Unspoken...
We matured to shut up
Re-awoken
Our changing world is an ever changing doubt
Likely...
Will bad times be gone
Hardly...
Do good times we hold on?

A LIKELY TALE
Husband beetle gets home late
Not just at seven but well after eight
Wife asks, what’s your excuse
For being on the loose?
Well, I just got inside a window pane
And couldn’t get back out again
I guess I musta dozed
Cos when I woke up it was closed
Then a cat began to push me
And a little boy tried to squash me
Then a girl scooped me up with paper
And ended my indoor caper
She put me outside in the rain
So then I came home again
And that’s it, my sweet,
All I can do is repeat.
She said, well if I had a penny
For each time my antennae
Have picked up that story, honey,
We’d build a new house with the money.

The One least likely to understand,
Was the One who knew the most
On broken knees, I cannot stand,
But haunt, do I, as wraith or ghost
The One least likely to be subtle,
Was as gentle as a Lamb
And, Oh! My emotions, deeply muddled-
Woe is me is all I am!

Doesn’t care a lot

All the windows down.
Shades drawn.
Door locked.
Against the imitation mahogany, a little manila card:
"Check out time: 3 o'clock."
Click!
All dark now.
Hmmmmm.
The Wizard Deluxe 16" Oscillating Fan
makes a lot of noise.
Click.
It's too cool anyway.
Whew! Those ugly flowers on the rug!
I can almost smell them.
And the bedsprings creak.
What am I doing here...
the Big Guy...
the Smart Alec with All the Ideas...
the Joe Who Was Going Places...
the Most Likely to Succeed...
Huh! If they could only see me now.
Well, here goes nothing.
I guess I'd better, now...
if ever, now!

Out of all the relationships I’ve ever been in, few really ever knew me.
Just bits and pieces rehashed, concocted and dispensed from;
A world I know as the files from my performing arts.
But with you it’s different because you’re so damned pretty.
I tell myself to stay Germaine when I’m around you but;
As soon as I set my eyes on you I lose track.
I’m moved by feelings I can’t even name.
You probably know what I mean don’t you;
Younger days and different faces where the blood flowed so thick;
And passion was so hot it set your body on fire,
Ah but the kicker; the ace in the hole; the crux of the biscuit with you;
And moves me most even more then the probable thrill of your kiss is;
It’s all of you that has made my heart beat irregular rhythms;
And that I’ll always remember.

It’s strange somehow thinking about the times I’ve spent in relationships yet;
Few have ever had the chance to really know me.
Just bits and pieces rehashed and concocted;
From a world he quietly calls “the Halls of Lenny’s performing arts”.
But with you it’s different because you’re so damned pretty.
I tell myself to stay natural when I’m around you but;
As soon as I set my eyes on you;
I seem to lose most of my composure.
You move me from a place I sometimes don’t even remember is there;
You probably know what I mean don’t you;
Those times from another place where the blood runs thick;
And passion burns like an eternal flame that sets your soul on fire,
Ah but the kicker; the ace in the hole; the crux of the biscuit is;
What moves me most about you goes;
Way beyond what may be there inside of those jeans I've seen you in
It’s you; all of you that makes my heart beat irregular and I’ll never forget.
