Dawn Steps Lightly into the Day

Silence quells the bells
as dawn sneaks into the space,
where darkness reigned supreme.
All is hushed and holding back.
For something to be assembled.
From the dis-membered memories, 
littering the floor from the day before.

You flounce
as if you were an ostrich fan
all fluffed up on the page
waving at posterity.
I nibble at your chicken livers,
occasionally
swing from your bell-ringing images
that dare to delight me,
but you peck at words too much

Been hurt before
Been torn apart... 
By loving too much, 
Too well and too true, 
By loving someone more than fair due.

Tread lightly on my mind:
Been played before
Been deeply bruised...
By forgiving and
Pleasing,
Too much and too well,
Keeping on trying,
Despite the hell.

Memorializing sailors who didn't survive 
Honouring heroes in the story he tells
Visiting the cathedral still ringing its bells
29 chimes every year for their souls
The Mariners church where the solemn bell tolls
He sang of their courage in mountainous waves
Those left behind in legacy a tragedy paves 
He hailed from Orillia

Hints its way

If we must be killed, lightly killed is the way to go
Less painful, at times can be quite delightful I'm told
But only if not a serious demise
Like a sharp stick in the eye
That's ridiculous, I need to be consoled
