The Box

I was grateful for the love of family and friends

But I was longing to hear your voice just once again

Then I came upon a box that I had not seen

There was a note that read ‘just a few keepsakes to you-from me’

I would recognize that handwriting anywhere

It was from you, my beloved my dear

I carefully opened it--not knowing what I would see

The box opened easily without a need for a key

I peered into the box

At first, I was a bit confused

Was this one of your jokes?

Or were these things really to be used?

There were:

Glasses – to help me to look for the best

A blindfold – to assist me in overlooking the rest

Some glue – to remind me not to be broken apart

A doorknob – to keep open the door to my heart

A glove – to incite me to offer a hand when I observe a fall

A ladder – to provide me with the vision to help others stand tall

I closed the box but promised to open it again

Whenever I missed the voice of my mentor and friend

Inclement

Of course, skies are not always clear
our Inclement Mother – we give a pass
for the flowers and crops seem to outweigh
the floods and drownings – besides, we choose
where we reside and pray – even God disadvantaged
often by our resident churches. Sadly, Love Offerings
are not so different, from other commodities: 10% or
be damned! Silver or gold is OK, even man’s processed
paper stand-in just as good...got to admit, a hell of
a price to pay, if faith and community are in the same
pocket. I have no measure outside my heart...which I
try to keep open.

hot days

when it gets dark
it remains humid and warm
the stars are obscured
by a heavy haze
the trees are so still
as if two-dimensional
a thick silence
broken only by boy racers
revving up Willett Way
night’s muggy cloak
stills the birdsong
open windows bring
no refreshing breeze
my clammy body sags
my brain slows to a standstill
my eyes can hardly keep open
my bones feel my age
my spirit feels even older
I yearn for days
cold and wet, while
realising that our selfishness
short-sightedness and greed
mean that future summers
will be much worse
while I’ll be even
less able to cope.

COUPLET
After a couple of Tequila Sunrise
so I swap my drink that'll keep open my eyes
so I had a glass of Kahlua and cream
that's a blunder as I fell into a dream

INNER RHYME
I awoke that felt like a cape of good dope
morning sun I think of myself as undone
but what finds me amiss is what all of this
all awry the land slants slights but not the sky

END RHYME
No matter where I roam sand sea smells like home
glad I be if it's true but sad though I knew
a place that's all new naught a place where I grew
I walk and I moan knowing I am alone

RHYME
Flowers of blinding beauty scents that steal souls
sandy beaches where surf surges and tides ebb
eddibles and delectables island naturals
but minus the faces I know ease my schlep.

Premium Membereyes barely keep open

I gardened all day
so exhaustion would set in
It worked too, but fast....
Do I have time to post my poems on a website?
I doubt that I have the capability.
My eyes are barely keeping open.

A slice of harmony

Slouching, sleepy in the little arm chair, eating cake,
Our country on the screen, there isn’t much at stake.

Drowning out the tacky tunes with our laughter,
It’s harmony, you see, that everyone is after.

Harmony, like this, in your living room together,
Flags and funny costumes, it’s times like this, nothing’s better.

Maybe peace is best achieved through art,
Oh Europe, please

keep open
your musical heart.

To Make Us Whole

Beyond the comprehension
                       of but one segmented soul
Lies the one intention
of the source to make us whole

Growing and all knowing
for us al to be a part
Each of us determines
                       how we recognize its start

How in the beginning
if there was one to believe
Wouldn’t we be grinning
with that knowledge up our sleeve

For some it’s God or Universe
                                Intelligence for sure
For some it’s not a rhyme or verse
                        there’s nothing to explore

For me, I keep open mind
                         respecting others’ claims
I just know I’m glad I’m here
                        not worried by the names

Premium MemberGuard Your Heart

Guard your heart.
Don't give love away or the pain will smart and
your heart will fray..
Don't serve your heart on an open tray or some
may come and cart pieces away..
Keep open your heart to give and receive but
be smart and weed those there to deceive..
If you always wear your heart on your sleeve,
you may lose parts that you'll never retrieve..

Premium MemberTogetherness

In the twilight hour we are by the window,
open to the hues of the fading horizon,
and to the breeze of the departing day,
see the sky shimmer with the last glow
of the setting sun at the edge of night.
Its cascading torrent of flare floods your face,
flushing still with the touch of belonging,
we carried together this far in entwined hearts.
We haven’t counted the steps on the sands of time,
but the frilled footprints I see etched in mind,
yours beside mine, pacing all the way side by side,
where we are now in the serene shade of sated time.

Sparkling streams of amorous moonbeam
surge with azure momentum of ardent fervor
through the window we keep open to the sky,
spread mystique tapestry of trance on your eyes,
where I see a seamless sea form for me
to sail across the ebullient tides of time,
reach the distant shore suffused with your scent,
where my first red rose to you kissed your lilac lips,
and we made demure dreams of togetherness.

The dreams brought us to where we are now
in the lengthening shadow of lingering yearning.

Time

For love there was a time
That appeared to be sublime.
But I fear it was all for naught,
For tears were all it brought.

The love appeared true
Brought anger only to brew.
A heart cold and blue,
Loneliness grew and grew.

Time somehow comes to pass
Hurt and anger fade and die
A heart opens to chance
And reaches for the sky.

The past is forever gone
And a new love lives on.
Time is on one side
With love in heart soul and mind.

Keep open your heart,
That you may come in time,
A love that’s once more
So completely sublime.

Hey You Don'T Be Blue

Hey you, don't be blue
Life is life an love is too.
It's all, about the way
You take stock an make a change.

Hey you, don't be sad
Get up it ain't that bad.
Go an chase, a better way
Tommorow is a brand new day.

Hey you, don't be still
Move on, use your will.
It's all, a funny old thing
Never know what the sun will bring.

Hey you, don't you shrill
Be calm, Just be chill.
It's all a silly old mess
Yet there's life in the old dog yet.

Now then it weren't that bad
Seeing growth, looking back.
It was all, just meant to be
Just a drop stitch in a tapestrie.

Each lifes, a piece of art
No one said, it wasn't hard.
Its about, the way you perceive
Keep open to seek a destiny.

Sagittarius

When I think about you I get lost in my mind all I see are images of you & I intertwined
You would think I'm talking about bodies because yours is so divine I'm actually talking about your mind a rarity in these days and times
I look forward to hearing your voice like I just got a new inner ear I keep trying to do magic because I wish you were here hocus pocus don't fail me now I need a roadmap and a plan on how
Give me the coordinates to your heart so I can come stop the fear
I'm not perfect but I strive to be when you're near
I believe men move off logic & women off emotions but if we both keep open minds we'll flow strong like the ocean overflow with devotion in a harmonic motion
Who me?  Just sitting here thinking about you which has become my new norm trying to be a meteorologist waiting to protect you from a storm

Premium MemberHow Many Chances

Is her feelings and satisfaction considered,
and matter,
as much as his own?
Will she find the words,
then her voice,
to tell him without trepidation,
what's good for her in all things?
Sounds so simple, these steps,
to make being with each other,
the place two want to be.
But if forgotten, the door slowly closes,
on what took no effort to keep open,
in the beginning.
How many chances will there be?

Premium MemberThe Eyes I Want To Forget

From beneath the patina of the rusted times
on the surface of the marooned mind
I uncover a buried pathway in the dusty memory
on which the tormented thoughts travel backward
to the deserted room, its peeling walls pasted with
pieces of frosted mirror of the shattered past,
still hanging uncared in dust.

The last rays of the setting sun
enters the room through the window I keep open
to the twilight when all the faces I once knew
dissolve in the flushing gleam of the dying day
but for the one that glows like the crimson sun unset,
the descending night hasn’t yet shrouded in oblivion.
I see a pair of pensive eyes with frozen drops of tear
poised unshed on the eyelid petals, looking at me
the forlorn way they did when I left her for good
in the dusk a long time ago.

That time hasn’t yet lost its way
in the meandering memory lane, her fragile face
appears unushered so often on the broken mirror
of my desolate mind that reflects tiny drops of tear
in the deserted corner of her pleading distant eyes
I want to forget.
