Aging
Problems with my joints
Problems with insomnia
Problems with my memory
Problems with my concentration
Problems with my energy levels
Problems with my taste buds
Problems with desire
Getting old is one big problem
One problem after another
This problem isn’t for the faint of heart
Well, at least I am still alive
And able to write bad poetry!!

Joints
The sound sometimes my
joints make when I walk is
often compared to a
gun going off with the help of
compressed air.

He's an elder now so don't dare forget.
He has special needs and they need to be met..
Always been a hot boy so keep the thermostat down,
or he'll gulp too much water and in urine you'll drown..
Never was a barker but now lets you know.
Better pay attention or he'll just let it flow..
The laminated flooring makes his joints ouch and
his old bones can no longer reach the soft couch.
He needs carpeting or bedding to lie down and slouch..
Those short walks are great but his back legs go out.
Make sure it's flat surfaces with no hills to mount..
A breakfast and a dinner, let his nose lead the way,
and this 120 pd dog is happy and sleeps the rest of his day.

out of all the gin joints in Chicago
she had to choose this one
she had an uncanny likeness to the woman he had lost
he could not stop staring

Swollen knees bring
fears of blocked tubes --
harbingers of destruction,
cold limbs, looming amputations.
Swollen knees bring
alternate explanations for pain –
cysts maybe? fears subside.
maybe just an infection…
Swollen knees bring
reminders of aging frames.
age-related deterioration,
speaks of a well-ripened life.
Swollen knees bring
streams of gratitude for
the many things knees can do.
joints of thanksgiving breaking through…

If I must run for my life, I’m a dead duck
These old worn-out hips will give out quick
Time came when my arthritis was undeniable
When I walk now, I hear my knees click.
I’m thinking I should consider replacements
Those newfangled techniques are superb,
I saw an old lady with brand new hip joints
Kick an unwitting purse snatcher to the curb.

Their lighters
allow me to smoke
joints and cigarettes
that inspire depressing poetry
written in their pens' ink,
which I cut myself to with
their razors.
Thanks BIC!

Three hundred and sixty joints in the human body,
To stand,
To sit,
To bend,
To stretch,
To fold,
To hear,
To see,
To talk,
To walk,
To think,
To thank God!

Used to be I got haircuts for two bits,
Along with a shave and hair tonic spritz,
From the barber bawdy jokes
Juicy gossip from town blokes!
Now for twelve bucks a clip is all I gits!

They say that living is a disgrace
those who worship the dead
I never felt that way
I love the adventure of life
it does not contaminate my soul
the way it does my body
the Gestapo order the violins
while the Marsellaise plays
I dance to different songs
I was younger, many years ago
and never afraid of things
then wave, after wave of fear emerged
covering the light with darkness
sealing the time with silence
I lived in a golden age of jazz
it stays with me, in memory
the sounds filled the air
with revelry
it was a long time ago
the performers marched through our house
each with a unique style
the tap dancers, the actors, the musicians
the painters, the generals, the writers
everyone came over to visit
the truth never lets go
it tramples over the story

You can give up that nasty habit if you try.
Just think of all the things your money will buy.
Each one of those houses is a den of debauchery.
They are clip joints just out to get your money.
When you dump at the tables or feed the machines,
the end result is usually some egregious scenes.
If you win, consider it a loan at the time.
You will return to pay back every nickel and dime.
Being broke is where most adventures will lead.
The house takes advantage of the weakness called greed.
Greed is the deadliest of the seven deadly sins.
In the long run, only the house is the one who wins.

Fast Food Joints to Blame for Obese Kids?
By Elton Camp
McDonald’s is sometime singled out for blame
Of other similar places we can claim the same
Their food is filled with calories, fat and salt
And to eat such worthless tripe, nobody ought
But to say this is the main reason kids are fat
It would be very hard to go along with that
Ronald McDonald doesn’t drag them in the door
And say, “Eat our fattening food and nothing more.”
It is the parents alone who have the right to decide
That to the fast-food place, kids they’ll take a ride
It is only reasonable and sensible that we expect
Little ones will eat the type food that parents direct
And there are now far better offering to decide
Not just hamburgers and some salty, greasy side
So the blame for obesity let’s put in the right place
If a little kid’s too fat, it is to the parents’ disgrace

The traditional or classic Japanese senryu format has three lines: the first has
five syllables, second has seven syllables and the third five syllables. The
pattern is 5/7/5 for a total of seventeen syllables. The senryu is generally about
an emotional expression.

In the dark
Devioded of fur and feathers
Bare and born
As really we once were
Like our conservative jungle cousins
Same as sesame twins
I am black and bony
You purple and plumpy
Save for what we know and we will
Those we’ve heard and clear still
Those we’ve seen yet in sight
Where we’ve been and the beckoning light
This day surety
Hope grilled with fears of the next
And the sweet-bitter of the yesters
Within and around these we diverge
Together in total we converge.
