Premium MemberUndone

sneakers twisted over hydro wires
co-joined
dangling from tied laces
tracks to an unhappy ending

a runner's castoff
erasing the scourge of a race lost?
an overhead tale of something snapped
when expectations erode

forlorn scuffed shoes
undone by some soul
weary of ownership
fused to the wrangle of wind
where secrets shake
heavenward
till summoned back to ground

this unburdened rejection
on a current for altering it
an indifferent toss losing its grip
when laces fray
gnarled by friction
an ending
like depleted affection
with nothing neatly laced up

The Water

I used to hate the rain.
Younger it brought nothing but being
Uncomfortable in my skin
So self conscious and small
Every time it rained I opted to stay in.
A heavy storm planted land mines
I tiptoed around myself
Trying to be hugged by a claustrophobic rainfall
I pushed away the cleanse.
How hard could it be to let the river take the fear?
My brain is the ocean
I was an apex predator
But also my easiest prey
And I didn't realize I couldn't swim
Until I was already drowning.
Submerged in rolling clouds and
Harmonious ear candy
The sky is crying
I wish the rain was resin
To encapsulate a collective core memory.
A needed hydro therapy.
Energy tsunami held my soul in it's eye
Washed away imprisioning body pollution
Sweet release of pre learned inhibitions
I am the water I once loathed to be in.

Premium MemberMy Scottish Borders Experience

Spending a late autumn break
in the Scottish Borders countryside
though the climate then so cloudy
didn't deter as I got on my stride

Galashiels was our first base
staying at aq lovely accommodation
visited Sir Walter Scott's own home
stood in awe, such a poetic occasion

There was a wonderful tapestry
on display in Galashiels town
takes you through Scotland's history
such skill uplifts never to drown

We then moved on to Peebles Hydro
which eas a lovely hotel no doubt
with nice short walks way down
where River Tweed flows into town

The Scottish Borders are a treat
especially in autumn time of year
other highlights being Selkirk and Moffat
so many delights bring much cheer!

(Having spent a week in the Scottish Borders recently, just writing this piece about my experience of the highlights of this trip.)

Fire and Water

Fire
                 blazing, glowing
          flaming, igniting, burning
     combustion, heat, hydro, aqua
      sprinkling, soaking, splashing
                 soggy, watery
                       water

Premium MemberIt's Not Personal

It's not personal, it's business,
says the guy overcharging you.
Knowing you'll begrudgingly pay:
they keep squeezing until you're broke.

You cringe inside each time you hear:
it's not personal, it's business.
And yet, partial payments increase
the amount owed on their ledger.

With no job, you live off food banks
and grift on the street for your rent.
It's not personal, it's business;
doesn't help when your hydro gets cut.

Society's a heartless beast;
that chews up souls and spits them out.
And as life beats you down, you hear
it's not personal, it's business.

Premium MemberMy 2019

It's good to look back at the year's end
to ponder on all that's now gone past
1 year ago you didn't know what's to come
but recognising it's all gone all too fast

Healthy has been so very excellent
my cancer checkups have all been great
with my PSA heading in down direction
increasing confidence for my next health date

My stammer has pulled me down again
so needing therapy for 9 months long
but light has dawned again at tunnel end
now slowly getting better like a merry song

Holidays were other real highlights
being at Crieff Hydro in January cold
then in spring to Bowness on Windermere
to Cyprus in May among sunshine gold

July came to go to Keswick lakes
enjoy convention, learn much in God's word
then at Southport for full two weeks
enjoyed the sun along the seafront

The year can't go past without thanks
for my friends of poetry so divine
faithful their encouragement so very much
this spurs me on with pen to shine

Premium MemberAlong the Hydro Lines

(read like bob dylan talk-sings)

back of the property there's a rattle of crows...
could be that wolf that was walking down the road...
this morning...look'n quite pleased with itself...
like it just ate...big smile and a trot that'd stop any car
and make ye stare...at natures spectacle look'n back at you
in yer machine...float'n down a gravel road...and wolf's thinkin...
man's fly'n but he can't catch me i've seen these things tangled up in trees...
along the road that is...lights flash'n sirens blast'n people die'n...freeze
or thaw...nature deals with interlopers...across her wilds...and territories..

Premium MemberRaging Water

We
are
losing
the battle
with raging water.
Millions of sandbags have failed us,
and many have had to sadly walk away from their homes, now
the bridge is closed, hydro is down, hope is gone, and more rain is expected.

Premium MemberMy Memories of 2018

As I come to the end of the year
it's always good to take a look back
see the ups, the downs and their effects
learn from mistakes to get off the rack

Many lovely holidays we did enjoy
the highlands in January at Crieff Hydro
then in April to lovely sunny Madeira
so relaxing taking life real slow

Learn to grow in God's word come July
great week at Keswick convention no less
then October took us to Pitlochry town
the enchanted forest there simply no stress

Throughout the year many Hospital calls
my PSA kept down under control
my stammer took the slide once again
so dry my tongue many words own goal

Such a blessing all my friends on here
too many to name they know who they are
so encouraging and inspiring all over the globe
their pens come to the fore from near and far

My greatest support is my Christine
at my back keeping me going strong
but my blessed saviour Jesus always close
stands with me always to eternally belong

Appreciation Amidst Irma

Appreciation Amidst Irma©

After watching Irma terrorize Florida and the Caribbean
This is what appreciation looks like

I appreciate that

I have hydro with which to make my morning coffee
That the roof is still on my home
The car I drive is on four wheels and not on its side

There is a place to jog this morning free of debris
The roads to get to work are safe and passable
My job is waiting for me at its usual place and time

The basement is high and dry
The bus will arrive to take the kids to school
And it is not a wading pool

There is no search and rescue
Nor a curfew
No evidence of a storm

Well rested after a night in bed
No howling winds and banging instead
Hunkered down in the dark would not have been a lark

Thank goodness for the early warning system
The many helping hands
So many agencies to heed the call

Standing up against the wall of flood
Thank you to all the brave souls
Who were out on patrols

We appreciate that which we have
And a speedy recovery for those that have loss
Of any kind

Kieran Steer

Kieran is a former pupil of Beath High,
In the region of Fife, a Scottish pride,
He attended a sports day hosted by,
Disability Sport Fife, boccia to be bride.

Born on 21st July 1995, Crossgates,
He works extremely hard each day,
In home exercises, in gym weights,
In hydro and also in physiotherapy.

He went onto a sports programme,
Which was world class: consistency;
To develop his skill and his gram,
So he became in the world high.

In 2013 he won the Euros, Portugal,
And in 2015 he won silver, Surrey;
An HND from Fife College did call,
And he did study Radio for his lay.

Premium MemberWhat

going back to my pillow
not the ads on TV
I have no pain no gain

just a siesta waiting for fresh direct
delivery a slice of pizzas
and tapenade on toast

so erect for my age
will use the olive oil
and scratch my back

very basic just talk their language
and they will bring the oil
to share around the bloke

brushing my teeth a conundrum
ratatat the tuba for a parade
of mint and hydro peroxide

Wars

The waging war ended with a cry of sorrowful joy.....grapes of sour tastes are scattered at the end of the caursed iroko log....frost of dry feelings repeat its sound of cold smoke....my joy rouse from today to yesterday...drowning in unpleasant laughter strands of hydro filled my flat chin with the motive of entering my wethered mouth it was salty ....salty like war as just started...my soul unites with my body...it just another of noiseless desire for murder...the partition continues...happiness filled in me again with hatred i stabbed my ached heart and i died my death....gains of conflicts is here lets share....wailing of the child still tells moonlight fears in ears...the partition tares...the gains of war is here lets share....wrapped with faded prints she danced round eri and cried....alas my jaw smiled with desperation...hollowing in forestial chants the soldiers marched in anguish....we lost...this is the gain of dispute...this is my share..it ended
