Virgo

They overthink and analyze
They’re never one to fantasize
They like to give direction
They’re addicted to perfection

If OCD was a person
One thing is for certain
Everything must be clean!
Any dirt will be seen

Mercury’s descendants
Are very independent
I would take their advice
Even if it’s not always nice

They live to help others
The most attentive lovers
They’re also pretty bossy
They can get a little saucy

They love to be well-groomed
It’s where they seem to bloom
Every detail is what they see
They see it to a psychotic degree

Whenever you feel alone
They’re the ones you need to phone
And never let this friend go
They care more than you know

I Wish I Knew

I wish I knew how acorns grew
Into a mighty oak,
But I’ve no clue and nor do you
Nor any other folk.

For certain seeds fulfill their needs
Yet take so long to grow
That, unlike weeds, our human speeds
Of life are much too slow.

We might take heart and see how smart
Are seedlings as they sprout,
But we’ll depart before they start
Their skyward branching out.

At the Beacon Theater

Went to a concert last night, across town,
To see an old favorite of mine, Jackson Browne.
We slogged through a downpour of thunder and rain,
Where the opening song had a “deluge” refrain.*

The show was amazing; the singing so fine
That years fell away with each lyrical line.
The fans were enamored; we clapped and we cheered
As our younger selves, as if by magic, appeared.

For more than three hours, the music fulfilled
The crowd’s expectations, with most of us thrilled.
Yet still, there was texting on cell phones a’light
From various seats, which just didn’t seem right.

It put a slight damper on what was, to me,
An evening as special as any could be,
For certain performers tap into the past
With a power that, over the years, seems to last.

Premium MemberA Just in Case Prayer

There is no pace anymore
time is picking up speed
one day a mustard seed-the next a sky tree
Nest generations offering songs to the breeze
space time is bending around rib of infinity.

A cluster of red heifers are being prepared
elements for the third temple are mixed
the loom of life weaving the second coming
something callosal is happening
some of it isn't going to be very pretty.

Speed is the offspring of time and space
the veil is being pulled away from great mysteries
It wouldn't hurt to say a prayer-just in case
even though you only half believe.

For certain time is picking up speed
the aligning of the starry prophesies
the great veil is thinning
frightening beautiful.
Bleaching the grime out of the soul
almost ready,

I Lost My Body

If I could go back in time,
I’d go back to when I believed in soulmates
the way I believe the stars in the night sky
guide us to a predetermined destiny.

Poorly illuminated by the moon,
leaving you to seek yourself intentionally.

Well,
I’ve learned you can throw away fate
when you make an extremist choice,
deviating against that destiny.

Like salmon in the springtime,
we kill ourselves only to respawn,
and reinvent new regret
in search of things we think we need
but already possess.

Now,
I don’t mean to come off as nihilistic or depressed,
but I’m slowly starting to stop believing in prepackaged outcomes,
and have come to the conclusion
that only children believe in soulmates.

At least I did when I was a kid.

Now I know for certain,
love only exists when it’s convenient,
and the stars, more often than not,
pick favorites.

Loving the unknown

I use to fear the unknown
I use to stay in my comfort zone
Right now I’m loving the unknown
I don’t know where life is taking me
I can’t say I know exactly how everything will go
I don’t fear it anymore
I embrace it
I’m excited for what’s to come
I’m for certain that bigger and better things are coming
Life is a dream
I love being on my toes
Let’s see where this goes
Life is beautiful when you take away the people who don’t deserve to be in your life
I’m loving the unknown and excited to see how everything unfolds

Done with

I’m done with putting in more effort than others put into me
I’m done with being there for others who aren’t there for me
I’m all about matching energies
No I’m sorry
I can’t be loyal to you when you’re disloyal to me
If you stop pouring into me don’t be surprised when I do the same
I’m not into playing games
Yes I love hard but don’t mistake me for a fool
I’m done with so many things
I look at my phone and can’t remember the last time you made it ring
I’m done with you
Go find somebody else to be your fool
You might not love me but I love me
One thing I know for certain in life is that I got me
I can’t trust you
You’ve shown me repeatedly that it’s best for me to stay away from you

At American Family Field

We used to be huge baseball fans
(The Yankees, but, of course!)
And followed all their games and cheered
Until our throats were hoarse.

Our fervor somehow waned and now
We couldn’t even name
The players on the team, although
We still enjoy the game.

While visiting Milwaukee,
We learned there would be a match
Of the Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates
Which we (pun!) could catch.

The Pirates pitcher, we found out,
Had quite an arm to wield,
So my husband got us tickets
And we headed to the field.

Their ballpark is a beauty
And we joined in with the crowd
Rooting for their favorite Brewers
As instructed – very loud!

At inning six, a race is held;
Five “sausages” compete.
The winner was Chorizo,
Bratwurst,* sadly, in defeat.

The final score was 4-2,
The Brewers with the prize,
The Pirate pitcher taken out,
Which was a big surprise.

Despite not being N.L.**fans,
We had a lot of fun,
For certain sayings hit the mark
And “When in Rome…” is one.

*The others include Hot Dog, Italian and Polish
**National League

Premium MemberHeaven is for real

Heaven is for real!
just look up into
the heavens
in the sky above
in the laugh of child
in the scent of a flower
in the touch of lips on cheek
in the joy of love shared.

Heaven is for real!
it's in the here and now.
It's in the within of
all things we
know for certain contain,
heavenly morsels,
that we can see,
touch, taste, hear,
and really feel,
make heaven
real.

like me

my personality is too much for some
i can change it.
i’m too loud sometimes
i can change it.
i overwhelm others with my emotions
i can change it.
i laugh too much
i can change it.
i’m not popular enough
i can change it.

the constant struggle
to fit in
to be liked
all revolves around perspective
don’t look for certain things
in the wrong people

Premium MemberThe Difference a Rhyme Makes

Ominous leaden clouds sink low in the sky overhead.
Tiny sparrows cease to fly and seek shelter instead.
Shadows fade, the sun slinks away and disappears.
The gloomy day only increases all uncertainty and fears.

Everything seems to have turned the colour of ash.
Morose feelings overcome me, as rain falls with a splash.
As I walk along it stains the pure white concrete slab.
As the day darkens, my colourful clothes look drab.

The ambience that surrounds me is most depressing.
I don a sullen expression. I can’t stop myself stressing.
As the rain subsides, a misty fog draws in like a curtain.
I can’t see the colours of day. I must get home for certain.

Dispirited and glum, I can hardly tell black from white.
The unwelcoming day to my dismay has turned to night.
This empty sadness I feel renders me deeply down cast.
I know I will be OK when I arrive safely home at last.

PERSONAL DILEMMA

    I loved her
 she didn't love me
I screamed at her
 she didn't wake up
   I cried
 she didn't cry
   I arrived
 she left me
  I went crazy
 she abandoned me
  One thing is for certain;
 "You need to have wings
when you live near the abyss..."
