Feeder Lake
There Is A Lake
Reserved For Silence.
And Nothing Left
To Lose...
Where A Sky Blue
Framing Border
Re-Flects
Every Shiver
Stippled On
A Softened Shore...
That Holds A Dam
Of Tears.
***
I Can Let Some
Flow Out.
But:
I Can't Remember
What The Tears
Are For.
***
I Used To Nearly
Leap Adrift In Sky
And Ride The Future
Rocks Be-Damned...
Into A Moonlit Sea.
*
I Used To Haunt
The Oaks All Night
Beside The Crippled
Creek Where Glowing
Green Embers Howled
And Croaked.
*
But I Can't Feel
Why I Cry-ed Those
Tears - Why I
Fought
Or Drank
Or Choked.
To The Lava Core
It WAS!
Where?
***
I Used To Sob
Over The Flavor
And The Texture
Of Your Skin...
And Hair
And Breathless
Both We Wept
Together There...
And Then
Apart.
***
But I Don't
KNOW
What Those
Tears Are For!
Any More!

I thought my demons were almost defeated,
But you took their side, and told them my secrets.
Whispered my fears, my doubts, my shame,
Fed them the lies that carry my name.
I thought you would shelter me from the night,
Be my shield when darkness stole my light.
But you opened the doors I fought to close,
And handed them truths that nobody knows.
Now they grow louder, clawing inside,
With your words as weapons, nowhere to hide.
I face them alone, though you stand near,
A stranger now, silence is all I hear.
I trusted your hands to help me heal,
But you wanted pain to be what I feel.
Where once was someone I thought had cared,
Is a ghost of a friend, and an empty chair.

Squirrels leap with vain effort,
Baffles guard the seeds.
Autumn's bounty held aloft,
Nature's jest in silent play.

Felicia the fox feeder became a mother of five
When their sainted fox mother was no longer alive
Their mother’s spirit sat in the trees and watched Felicia though
Thrilled she treated her kits with love that continued to grow
She was Felicia’s spirit animal from that moment until forever.
When did she abandon her? Never, and I mean never.

In the backyard I built a penguin feeder
In the hopes of becoming a breeder
But I have yet to spot
A penguin on my lot
So I hired an aquatic cheerleader
At first she attracted a duck and a wren
So I quickly built a large penguin pen
But after ten days
I sent her away
When she only drew in, fishy smelling men

Beautiful birds, taking their fill,
At the feeder, gentle and still…
Risking the time, immobile,
Blessed by the treasure, the meal…
Delicious fortune in the feeder,
Breathtaking, playing follow the leader!

May we be blessed to acknowledge all the wonders in our life
that have, for us, thus far accrued…
and to begin each day with a word of thanks…
and thoughts of gratitude.
Today I’m thankful for the birds who come to our feeders
to partake of a little free food…
and for how they spend times in our trees
singing their songs of gratitude.

Aha! Trees decked with
Gleaming snow, feeder
Still inviting the
Chilled birds...a kind heart,
A thoughtful gesture...
Snow falls incessant!

in the spring...
a bears nose
will seek out
whatever smell
fantasy sizes a
quick free meal...
five bird feeders
on the sun-deck...
were pulled down
broken apart and
emptied last night...
by some bear cubs
about every three years...
such happens so it pays
to make your own feeders...

The backyard feeder for the birds
Brought squirrels who, for sure,
Believed that with some cast-off seeds
They certainly would score.
For months that worked for everyone
Until that fateful day
I looked outside to see
That squirrels can be local prey.
For right below the feeder,
A coyote stood his ground,
Then grabbed a fresh-killed squirrel
‘Fore he vanished with a bound.
I haven’t filled the feeder since
Nor ventured out to sit,
But it’s so lovely weather-wise,
I’m outside for a bit.
As soon as I sat down, three birds
Came swooping in for seed,
But with some squirrels realized
I had not fulfilled their need.
It’s sad that one coyote
Stole the pleasure we have missed,
Yet both predators and prey, I guess,
Both need to coexist.

I'm yelling at a squirrel today
Then watching her just whirl away
Her name is Little Curly Mae
She's such a pretty girl I'd say
But eats the birdseed from the tray
Then hides herself inside her dray.

Filled the feeder in the snow
Because, of all the weathers,
This one makes the search for food
Quite tough for those with feathers.
Had to chase some squirrels -
Let them eat the nuts they’ve hoarded -
But then the birds began to come
And wow, was I rewarded!
Chickadees and sparrows,
Blue jays and a mourning dove,
Then a Woody Woodpecker,
A species that I love.
Flocks of little black birds
That prefer to peck the ground,
Crows above on branches
Where good resting spots are found.
Set against the blanket
Of the freshly fallen snow,
I’m happy as I watch the birds
Who know just where to go.
