Best Feeder Poems
The brittle stems of Queen Anne's Lace
reduced to barren winter bone;
a hoarfrost Ermine coat embrace,
impaled in soil that's turned to stone.
The flowers now are wicker cups,
wear Bowler's hats of purest white;
the snowflakes that they interrupt
await the wind; resume their flight.
The Junco in the Prairie Grass,
drad colors blending, stem and snow;
his flitting business come to pass
without a glimpse of style, or show.
White crystal mist; the morning still,
a cold and colorless display;
the fenceposts marching up the hill
like soldiers, slowly fade away.
This day in its entirety
constructed thus to fit the mood,
cabin bound and winter weary,
must you in my lament intrude?
From deep within the Cedar tree
in blazing red from cap to tail,
you interrupt my woe-is-me,
insure my pensive mood will fail!

On the window feeder,
Gray and black birds, feathered families,
Playful and perky, frolicking
Like the music beneath their down,
Plumes rich as a caress, stirring joy,
Wonders, shadowed by the pastel noon,
Dreamy hearted wings, graceful
As the moment before lips widen
Into a smile, reflecting all the magic,
Fairy-tale laughter, chirping,
Songs written by the moon and stars,
Silent as the heart, unspoken,
Beyond broken – thoughts soaring,
As the hand releases the seed,
To be devoured by nature’s flock,
Hesitant, nearly weeping,
Reflected on the dew, dripping,
Washing away the dust, the silence,
With a hesitant gaze into yesterday,
Where the prayer, understood,
Weighed the heart, the soul…
On the window feeder,
Standing patient and persistent,
Twittering eagerly, waiting
For the seeds, the kernels, fare
Meant to host the musicians,
Choirs of winged artists,
Stunning performers who calm,
Hush the darkness of a forest,
With their reticence,
Quiet kindness stirring apart,
Trembling leaves,
Breathless oaks, pines,
Memories designed to invite…
Beautiful to the light,
Wonderful to the night,
Magnificent, so glistening, bright.
On the window feeder,
Standing, curious…
Motionless, yet ready to soar,
Rising into the azure skies,
In one fluid motion,
Willowy and wistful, elegant
Nearly as enthusiastic as a star
Glitter from the heavens,
Revealing the treasure of the choir,
Music, praising, ever praising…
From the feeder, where they play,
Follow the leader – a waltz,
Danced perchance, on the winds,
Where hope once promised
Winged blessings, extoled – worship,
Like a lullaby, soft and gentle –
Always remembered!

Resentment,
rising into a spore,
of keep-forever
bitterness,
bars peace of
yesterday, today
tomorrow.

built for a greater purpose
offering age old seeds for free
an oasis between branches
positioned for all to see
flocks congregate and listen
singing with hunger and fear
they gather up a healthy harvest
then scatter away with cheer
filled to serve all year long
never struggles or complains
bravely emptying their vessel clear
an endless source remains
soon their birds will migrate home
a perilous path my friend
signposts that help along the way
giving to the end

In a fight to survive,
His selfless hands
Are again preparing
To feed a tribe
Of hungry birds
With winter seed.
The strength of
Her faithful grace
Alone will keep him
Strong for the fight,
The light of hope
Glows in her face.
Love climbs disease
Like ivy on the trees.

Cardinals feeding at the trays, enjoying winter meal
abruptly chased off by the Jays, the ones that always steal
Suprising all the Doves still here, grabbing little snacks
Squirrels "butt-in" to get their fill, leaving snowy tracks
Hawks are high up in the trees, Geese are on the ground
Sparrows and the Chickadees barely make a sound
Then the Raccoon comes along, chases Squirrel away
Deer not fazed by him at all, they are there to stay
They snort and stomp until he leaves, happy he has gone
the family knows it's safe to eat, joined now by their Fawn
Then a noise deep in the woods, chased them all away
though wary, they'll return again, to feed another day.....

Filled the feeder in the snow
Because, of all the weathers,
This one makes the search for food
Quite tough for those with feathers.
Had to chase some squirrels -
Let them eat the nuts they’ve hoarded -
But then the birds began to come
And wow, was I rewarded!
Chickadees and sparrows,
Blue jays and a mourning dove,
Then a Woody Woodpecker,
A species that I love.
Flocks of little black birds
That prefer to peck the ground,
Crows above on branches
Where good resting spots are found.
Set against the blanket
Of the freshly fallen snow,
I’m happy as I watch the birds
Who know just where to go.

A birdfeeder hangs on the oak tree.
The sparrows all come there to eat free.
One day a Blue Jay,
Chased them all away.
The Hawk said “Hooray” dinner for me!

I'm yelling at a squirrel today
Then watching her just whirl away
Her name is Little Curly Mae
She's such a pretty girl I'd say
But eats the birdseed from the tray
Then hides herself inside her dray.

Leader and Bottom Feeder
Trump is both President and our leader,
And he also has become a bottom feeder;
Garbage collector,
And of inspector;
We also understand he was a poor reader.

Birds At The Feeder
small chittering, cheepings
winter wings brushed in Arctic air
chickadees squabble
to choose a seed
from the newly filled feeder
pecking and peeking
and picking just the right morsel
to nourish their individual need
some come, as the blue jays..
squawking and bugling
make way, make way
and landing chase the small ones
grabbing the largest seeds
10—12 at a time
they stuff their iridescent cheeks
I am like those birds
I dip into my deepest pockets
and finding a good seed
a germ, a gem of thought
or remembered feeling
fly to a quiet place
