Puffed with warmth for my birthday dinner treat
0n the plate of a pure veg restaurant
Tempting entree ignites the classy taste,
A delight, each bite, spread with tamarind chutney,
Together with kindred sharing stories
Of flavour, care and chefs` talents.
Savoury paneer masala
And dal makhani* served with mutter pulao
Make the main course, added with garlic nan,
Oozing with taste, a real relish,
Side-lined with pickled onions and rice kheer as desert,
A feast for the senses, a love we all share.
*Slow-cooked black lentils
Cloudy skies confetti the earth with white snowflakes:
Harbingers of excitement and sweet sugar cakes.
Ringing church bells peal, blessing Jesus' birthday while
Icicles hang from eaves in an ornate display.
Santa Claus and his reindeer will take flight tonight,
To deliver gifts to all the good boys and girls.
Mommies and daddies are all smiles and hugs of love,
As youngsters eagerly search the skies above, and
Soon, their yawns yield to dreams of Rudolph's shiny nose.
Elves will fill Santa's magical bag with toys, and
Virtually overnight, Santa will visit
Every house in town: bringing Christmas cheer to all.
We were not so poor
To be ungrateful
For what we lacked.
Full plates in a heated house
Made it seem undue to complain
For lack of poetry or a candy cane.
Ne’er a penny in a bush
Nor gift under the tree was for us
With corn, milk and eggs a plenty.
We dared not wish for more.
Each night we knelt in thanks
Before dreaming of a hotdog,
Birthday cake, Christmas
Gift, or a dime to buy
An ice cream cone.
The weeds we kept at bay
The trees chopped expertly
Our toil stayed the rest.
We were not so poor
To be unthankful
For what we lacked
As we hoed the corn
Milked the cows
Feed the chickens.
Starved of play we were
too busy making hay
To be ungrateful.
Perfect day to invite friends
It might be someone's birthday or anniversary
We'll find cause to celebrate

A young babe was born in the middle of the month of May.
She lost her mother in a sad way days before her first birthday.
To this day and from now on we miss her in every single way.
Between two oceans I do roam,
unsure which to call my home.
Raised on the west coast, transformed on the east: I know enjoy a lobster feast.
Two seasons: three wet one dry, or four with a summer so short I could cry.
Which do I love more I cannot say, for I love them both in their own way.
Its family and friends that really call. Dividing my time between them all.
A birthday here, a zoom call there; I can't be expected to be everywhere.
Truly, what decides, is what's in my heart and in my mind.
Through memories fond and a bond that is strong I am always at home, wherever I roam, between the two oceans I call my home.
The day you were born
went back to the hospital
where I was forewarned
a little bit into the night
your mother, I just told
to rest her sleepy head
as I held you in the light
it's the drugs go to bed
I guess it'd be the norm
as the test-taker I am,
first as father-dad form
you're evidence I exam
I feel like your mom now
she passed you on to me ...

as those years were meant to be
forty-eight years and more, WOW,
six trailed the starter of the family.

HAPPY 48th BIRTHDAY
ALOHA ~MY~ SON

I wish I will be home on Christmas Day,
To spend the season with my family;
I await grand reunions on our way,
Bonds in prayers, programs with a party.
Embraced by the warm spirit of Christmas,
We all get into our car to church;
So excited to join the evening mass,
For homily, children’s shows…we march.
We all participate in church’s affairs,
Family, relatives, friends--- together;
Share God’s words, gifts, foods and love fills the air,
My family grows so big on December.
Christmas with family is still the best,
On Jesus Christ’s birthday, I feel so blessed.
I peer through
Into your world
I smell the fragrance
Of family
Cooking roast dinner
I listen intently
Party poppers
And Happy Birthday songs
Someone singing in the shower
I see colours and shapes
Moving reflections on glass doors
Dancing couples
A dog, shadow tail wagging
I feel the warm air
Of the inside world
Tangible moisture
Making my eyes steam up
I hear a phone ringing
Friendly chatter
About nothing important
Laughter
I peer through
Into your world
Yet, I am not to be invited
In from the cold
So I reverse
Retreat into the empty
Silent, homeless streets
Of a large cold city
The paper words
Letter unposted
Still clutched
In my calloused hand
Eddie McGuire made us all groan,
Eddie the eighth (VIII) abdicated the throne.
Eddie "The Eagle" flew through the sky,
Eddie Van Halen made his guitar cry.
Eddies Murphy and Izzard made us all laugh,
Eddie "The Beast" tore a phone book in half.
Eddie "The Head" was a head banger,
Eddie Sheeran has a head like a ranga!
Eddie Mabo toiled for land rights,
Eddie Alvarez got into fights.
So Eddie be proud of your name evermore,
As it's shared with the greats who are mentioned afore.
But be your own Eddie and tread your own path.
Stay humble, grow wise and keep making us laugh!
The card.
Thanks for the card
I loved the design
The words were perfect
The sentiment sublime
You know you really shouldn’t
Your time is so precious
But you still waste it on me
Says so much about us
Our love and respect
As always days late
I haven’t received it yet
I’ll send your money on time
For your birthday each year
I send more for your daughter
Though I’ll never see her
No need for more lies
Shrug and face reality
You never sent the card
You think nothing of me
Such a wonderful daughter
As I’m a wonderful dad
We’re both as good as each other.
And both equally as bad.

My wife's named Irina, though we all call her 'Mom'
For her is this tribute, our little Psalm
She cooks delicious meals for our family every day
Happy to do it, without a nickel of pay
Whatever needs to be done, laundry or cleaning
She's on it cheerfully, to her it's not demeaning
For Irina takes pride in a home that sparkles and shines
A comfortable domicile, where we happily dine
The blessings she has brought to us, to count are so many
May God grant her good health and long life ~ to 120!

Jews traditionally wish each other long life to 120 years,
since that was how long Moses lived. (He passed away
on his 120th birthday).
We’ve always done for each other what we thought was good and right.
Tucked up in our little corner under the rainy mist of our street light.
Tucked up in our little life where we know that we only have each other when the world chooses us with which to fight.
We found love and peace in one another in this beautiful little life.
All the years that we’ve been together through the laughter, fears, tears, felines and cries. Tucked up here together, well that’s alright.
Because, I’ll never regret a moment, not one single moment of our life, when I see you, my you, my love, our little corner tucked up in your loving blue eyes.
Many years I kept you in box
Box of good memories that knocks
Birthdays come alive
Like roses in five
Candles I lit, my love that rocks!
Helium fills the colorful balloons
And the party will be this afternoon
Party is fun for everyone
Plenty of great food and gifts for my son
Ice cream with extra chocolate cake
Nice to see the family talking out by the lake
Everyone is having a good time
Some are even reciting a rhyme
Singing Happy Birthday out loud will be sublime
