Premium MemberEleanors Eyesight

Eleanor cannot see
Her eyesight is ridiculous
She has had all kinds of operations
But she is eighty-two, her eyes have given up.

A corrupt eye doctor writes her an excuse.
She takes it to the drivers’ license bureau.
She does not have to take their mandatory eye test.
Mandatory folks, MANdatory!

Eleanor has run into parked cars, trees, boats, and a river.

I am meeting a friend at this restaurant
her eyesight is deplorably bad
I feel brave, sitting across from the front window
with large pieces of glass behind my back
her blue Ford could jump the curb at any second

Premium MemberA PELICAN IN THE FOG

I have mentioned this before…yes, it’s something many of you have heard…
without my glasses…when I look around…my vision is quite blurred.

I suppose that’s why in life…I love the color grey…
walking in the fog…and paintings by Monet.

Walking on the beach the other morning…they sky changed from blue to grey
and when the fog settled over us it

Parasite

Charles had his visits resumed,
Thrice eating what he consumed.
We were all by him deceived
And readily was received!
Charles, who had false names assumed
And that we had not presumed;
He had had it all conceived,
My present folly perceived…

Now, A Case of Food Shortage,
I plan to One Room mortgage;
It can’t be Steady Porridge.
For Vegetable Mere Cabbage…
Starvation knocking hard:
I

The Fog Dawns

My husband cannot see the fog rising.
Smiling, he takes a picture
and the fog dawns on me.

hubby’s cell phone image: no fog in sight
his photo rightly clear
then the fog dawns on me

Through the Eyes of Love

I see you in your morning prayer -
 Look as you raise your hands in praise;
Overhear your voices sing to God
 Ev’ry hour of the day;
Watch you hold a dying hand
 Feed the hungry and the poor
Then witness you visit prisoners
 Welcome strangers at your door.

In the silence of the night

Hope You Get Your Eyesight Back Soon

I can only conclude,
That you are suffering from temporary blindness ,
And that you will recover your eyesight,
Before you find yourself alone for real and for keeps.

I pray every day that the recovery will give you,
Insight into the fact,
That others are close by,
With the same needs as you,
The same headaches as you,
The same excuses as you,
And

King Oedipus: Foreshadowing

We hang on hints or clues to see what's to come next;
I'll cite examples as proofs from a well-known text.

He that crawls in fours when rooster gleefully calls,
Walks in twos like the blazing sun, but soon he falls;
Here's a hint, clue or foreshadowing to foresee
His fall from a life's precipice … and

Reflections On the Loss of Vision

Reflections on the Loss of Vision
by Michael R. Burch

The sparrow that cries from the shelter of an ancient oak tree and the squirrels
that dash in delight through the treetops as the first snow glistens and swirls,
remind me so much of my childhood and how the world seemed to me then,
    that it

Baffling Though Before Eyesight

the third floor of a six-storied building,
silent room of three family members,
father, mother and a son

the son corporate job holder
in this populous city,
punctuality, sincerity, responsibility
makes him busy in his daily job

in the parent's room
crystal eye-glasses on the tea table,
Dainik Janakantha on the easy chair,
cigarette ashtray full of burned ashes.
on the tea table empty teacup,
mother comes

With Playful Eyesight

With Playful Eyesight

With playful eyesight he became a peeker;
Through tough times which were bleaker;
When we had read,
What newspaper said,
We realized that the source was a leaker.

I Have Lost My Eyesight
