When Eyesight Fails

When eyesight fails
And nighttime flies
When heartache ails
And souls do die
When conscience flees
And morning comes
Whose eyes are these
That saw the sun?
But pity me
And wish for you
When all I see
Is morning dew
I did not know
And could not find
What eyes did show
Of mean or kind
But once again
I’ll risk my life
To be your friend
With all my strife
And never leave
To help myself
But only see
That you are well
