Writing Poetry

Writing poetry is never easy.
Starting has always been hard.
Ideas rarely flow smoothly
Distractions leave the paper marred.

Thoughts confuse the writing
And never let me think.
Contradictions result from this
And drive me to the brink.

Meter and tone must be perfectly right
And rhyme must be even better.
“Proper Form” should be used,
On down to every letter.

The most difficult part of all

~ I’ve found a place to court a writer’s muse;
this window seat along the boulevard.
For now, it’s only penning I'll peruse 
and charming interruptions, disregard. 

   I’ll fill my pages with such circumstance 
so not to have this heart put on display
and, dare not give my characters a chance
to let their beauty steal

I put myself in places

Distractions 
What falsely makes you happy 
Could be your destruction 
Cos there is no paradise in hell 
Most hell feels like heaven nowadays 
So trade your ways with cautiousness 
Let your conciseness be alive 
Their is power in thought 
So picture your life by yourself 
Be the author of your ways 
Be the origin of

Our land of stars and stripes, now glows,
with screens that flicker in hallowed halls.
Entranced humans shuffle, with eyes fixed below,
on small gadgets that have us enthralled.

Should the Statue of Liberty, our symbolic girl,
be holding a smartphone up to the world?
While tweets fly like eagles and hashtags swirl,
foreign disinformation trends as fast as it’s purled.

Traffic Safety

Drivers pay attention, you need to be more attentive, aware and alert
Distractions are very dangerous resulting in somebody getting hurt
Reckless drivers have drivers, walkers, joggers, and cyclist in a panic
Now leaving home for an drive, jog, walk, or ride can end in a tragic 
There's plenty of areas to pull over to handle what can

Life's distractions

Life distractions cause panic in many ways

Of jaded muses and digital distractions - POTW

The allure of mused poems,
No longer visits this nonchalant psyche.
It trickles now, once a roaring torrent
Now a lazy stream

Am like a desultory jaded heaven
Where starry jewels once decked the night,
But are now drossy shadowy blackholes,
And sparks and dreams, 
Are ripped in the accretion disc.

No longer avid, but seeking meaning in the mundane.
No longer enraptured by

Sleepless

I lay awake once again
Unable to clear my head.
I wish this storm of thoughts would cease,
And allow me to go to bed.

I dream about the future.
I reminisce about the past.
I think about things I could have done.
A funny thought crosses my mind and makes me laugh.

I try to comprehend the vastness of space,
And speculate about

Minor distractions

Wait beyond the earth is doomed.
Sun grew hungry, thus consumed.
Further wait until time tires.
Watch as all motion expires.
Unstitch all that has been sewn.
Witness that which can't be known.
Mould a shape that's yet unseen.
Remake all that has not been.

Some-- In Its Entirety

In the ‘some’ of a number, a zero gets lost.
In the idea of ‘some’, values turn frost.

In equating ‘some’ with ‘some’ of the few,
A territory is gained and a battle renewed.

With ‘some’ of the trained, the Devil tenders right.   
Married to ‘some’, lovers are at plight.

Though spirits blossom in ‘some’ of the prime,
Yet

Confusion hangs in the air like lanterns not yet lit
I look around in a daze, as if I have gone astray 
memories somber, like watercolors flooded in gray, 
I shrink in the silence that floods the horizon. 

I am distracted this moment, my mind elsewhere 
of things I want to do, places I often dream

Ufos

If you ask our NewsMax, America One fueled, republican congressmen
who won the last presidential election - they’ll pretend that they don’t know.
But hey, these are the guys, the “honest brokers” we can trust, to figure out UFOs.

These republicans disavow Trump’s clear treason. If they refuse to follow those clues,
like video captured by the guilty themselves

mind unspooling
easing my way into the garden
to prune the over eager
feeling well
in a loosely-strung way

excitable dog
threads my legs

I am centered
balanced

dog now barking
chasing squirrels
dog kicking up flustered
clusters of sparrows
doors slam
neighbors yell
dog pissing on the roses

strategic withdrawal

dead heads still
un-dead
wind whip's-up
a spiky shudder

gin and ice
snatched from the fridge

running for cover
