Circling and scraping.
Bristly and comforting.
When I brush my teeth.
It’s never that bad.
But getting out of bed is the hard part.
I find myself wishing someone would bring me my toothbrush.
I could brush my teeth in my sleep.
Instead, I’m lonely.
I’m late so I spring out of bed, suddenly.
Circling the room, anxiously.
The carpet scraping my feet.
Fearful that my toothbrush will somehow hurt me.
I have to leave soon.
I don’t have time to brush, so I cry instead.
I daydream all day,
About going home to brush my teeth over and over…
Alone, brushing my teeth.
Until everything is clean and fresh.
But when I get home, it’s never like that.
I’m tired so I brush my teeth meekly and hopelessly.
Circling and scraping.
Bristly and comforting.
I don’t really brush my teeth enough these days.

while brushing my teeth …
tragedies occur worldwide
iron mixed with clay
flooding my senses daily
filling my bottle of tears
while brushing my teeth …
railroad crossing warning lights
ignored by mankind
choosing to beat the turnstile
Russian roulette on steroids
while brushing my teeth …
greenhouse gasses mushrooming
fossil fuel burning
weather patterns alarming
reality's fire consumes
while brushing our teeth …
our friend Time becomes our foe
heads buried in sand
the more we know the less we learn
lies exhumed as truth entombed
while brushing our teeth …
one higher than the highest
watches from above
master potter's loving touch
coils of clay willing to yield?

gently brushing nightbreak
moon sheds our outlines ‘round treetops
and here, warm breeze emboldens us
curves bare as peeled leafage
I yearn for hands fondling moist skin.

Brushing My Teeth
Haven been told when brushing my teeth,
Is like water that flows through a reef;
Up and down,
And all around;
Would wipe brush off with a long leaf.
Now my mother will leave me alone and
stop asking me if I have brushed my teeth.

The convalescence occasionally is crushing
When left and right kin struggles
Not just any people, but those dear to you,
You want to reach out
And pull them all into your arms
Only realising arms are too small and few,
And they are with too many
Can't alleviate, can't ameliorate.
Our voices only reach so far
Our ears and eyes fail
As do our helpless hands.
But in this mind, in these words
A world is opened, for you
And you
And you
This heart flies like a butterfly on faltering wings
Soft feathers brushing across the distance
The span of our vast world
To diminish pain
To lessen hurt

HAIR BRUSHING
The golden water of her hair
Cascading over her shoulder,
Spilling and filling my fingers
With smooth cool fragrance
Of lotus blossom,
Smelled long after she rose
And left the room.

spreading shadows of
life and death
we are brushing
our memories
sadness is cleaned
happiness in the
fresh breath
another day
she is smiling

If only I could air brush out
the many monochrome
moments of my life
that have caused so much
damning introspection
and debilitating self doubt.
No good traveling the same
old beaten track
I just want to feel good about myself
and put the stolen self worth back
Adding colour to my life
throwing ambient light upon my
darkest days and nights.

I can’t touch that part of you
That wall can not be breached
You won’t let down your defenses
That separate you from me
Stuck in a chain of moments
That were not meant to last
Telling it to my memories
When I relive the past
Face down in this recollection
From the time that you were here
Moving in your own direction
Brushing past when I was near
I don’t know what you’re seeking
Maybe you don’t know your self
But it wasn’t me you were looking for
Or love in and of itself
Keep your heart protected
Don’t let down the wall
But the loneliness that surrounds you
Won’t protect you from the fall
