Breathless

       Tentative steps beyond my front door
         Ten or twelve at most, can’t go more
       Not boldly either, but taken timidly
         No match for the heat and

Breathless

Twisting, turning, falling ever down 

This moment held suspended in time

Dizzy, breathless, my heart is ever bound

As I gently kiss your lips sublime

Weightless Where It Hurts

a paper bird falls beside my hand — too cold to hold or mourn

I dreamt of a siren 
with crystal skin and quaint braided hair. 

her eyes, slow swirls of undying azure,
coiled around, her salt-sweet chorus 
tightening at my throat

The alluring notes 
pierce through my rasp scream—

In cold sweats I
wake up nauseous—
My vocal cords enfolded in her skin.

Breathless in the night

the sun went down over the serenity of our lake
sinking into the far depths of the beyond
leaving a kaleidoscopic trail of colours behind it

and for a long breathless moment
a masterpiece was suspended in mid air
a magical spell being cast
as if peace might reign over the world

Breathless, Then and Now

When I first saw the ocean as a child,
I was in awe of its waves, both mild
and wild, crashing onto the shore
as I waded through warm sand.
Still, its massive presence
renders me breathless
decades

Breathless in Silent Collapse

Breathless,
words like cordyceps adhere to my throat,
Choking me as the unspoken wrap around, seizing vocal cords.
Sticking fingers down, I claw to clear closing airways,
Yet the more I struggle, the more entwined they become.

Disconsolate spores have taken root within heaving lungs,
Spreading to each chamber of the heart, systematically.
Transported through streams of hemoglobin,
Swiftly infecting Broca's area before

You Left Me Breathless

You left me breathless,
When you walked away,
You stole the air straight from my lungs,
When you broke my heart that day.
You left me breathless,
When your words were spoken,
You drowned me on dry land,
When your promise to me was broken.
You left me breathless,
When you did what you said you wouldn’t do,
Your words choked me,
Until I turned blue.

Like the Breathless Rose

I feel like a wilted, straight cut rose
taken from my garden with a quick snip.
Displayed in the aura and heat of a stage
beauty and bouquet are a burden.
Breathless, I long for normal, to be myself again.

coursing through rhymes,
stirring my moon-swept
soul, as I ache for your

A breathless house wheezes

Winter looms with frost-laced breath,
this house shudders in anticipation-
Its narrow corridors wince at the thought.
These rooms have shrinking walls,
their windows wedged shut,
And doors refuse to stay open.
The air hangs heavy, like

Breathless in the void
