Premium Member Son of a Beach

For as long as I can remember,
the months of May through September,
have always been the most enjoyable for me.
If you wonder, it is easy to see.
I love the boardwalk, the sun, and the beach.
Summer fun has always been in reach.
My friends and I in an old beat-up Ford
would drive down to the beach with a surfboard.
Pleasant past thoughts I would reminisce,
as long as dive-bombing seagulls continued to miss.
Those were among the memories of yesterday.
However, little has changed up to today.
The season at the beach is especially nice
with girls in bikinis and Italian water ice.
With cool breezes, the surf, and the sand,
no other scenery can be as grand.
I am older now, but it does not matter to me.
I still enjoy every bit of the scenery.

Premium Member Vacation To Remember

Of all the great vacations I've been on-
the ones abroad and those on land and sea,
the place to which my thoughts are always drawn,
'North to Alaska' was the best for me.

On Princess Cruise, we left Vancouver port
to Ketchikan, Juneau, and Glacier Bay.
The towns were quaint and earned a good report,
but Glacier Bay - what a majestic day!

The cove was filled with glaciers, large and small,
that glistened in the sunbeams wondrously.
I felt I was in heaven, so enthralled,
by water, ice, and sky surrounding me.

Then all at once, a roar, loud as can be -
     a feat called 'calving' suddenly began;
large chunks of glacier ice right then broke free,
cascaded down along a deep, wide span.

The ocean rose with waves, and I could feel
the splash of water sparkling in the air.
This sight of glacier splitting was surreal;
an act of nature shown beyond compare.

The blue and aqua colors in the ice
     along with sky and sea reflecting gleam;
held captive by this beauty so enticed
me to remember this Alaskan dream.

Premium Member Antarctica

Canines of cold bite down hard

Frigid daggers pierce the bones with reality
Pack ice, pregnant with the dynamism of glacial creep
Screaming and retching as it births its icy progeny to the Southern Ocean
Relentless gales turning billows to tiny needles of ice

That slap the skin to pain and then numbness
Replacing the now absurd definition once held for 'hell'
There can be no other than this bitter maw
The scorching breath of Hades would be welcome here

And yet ...
Water, ice flow, land mass
Even rooted far under the pack
Everywhere in this seemingly hostile icescape ...

LIFE ... burgeoning
Blood feeds tissue and respiration
Cells divide and divide again
Sentience and impulse command the macrocosm

Neurons fire in countless succession
And the remorseless but necessary circles of nature spin on
All for the primary concern - the focus of all intents:
Continuance.

A realm of such brutal beauty
An extraordinarily merciless allure and bloom
The very last place any sane creature of acumen would remain
Yet it blossoms and bursts with courses and extent

Even the night sky is alive with color and motility
Ribbons of wonder and movement
The sparkling flags of the antarctic heavens
Waving for all the hearty creatures

That make this gelid torment ... home.

Premium Member Summer Fun

There is always joy in the summer season.
Getting out of school for ten weeks is one reason.
However, there is one thing about summer I like.
No, I’m not talking about riding my bike,
or going through the woods to take a hike.
My old man drives an old beat-up Ford.
Summer camp for me is one thing he can’t afford.
So for this time, I am stuck in the city.
However, for me, you need not feel pity.
If I have a couple of bucks, I’m in luck.
I just wait for that Italian water ice truck.

A few snowflakes signal the winter
With it comes the deadly cold wind
Keep warm by the fire, not to shiver
Only hearing the music of the wind.

The mind will get covered by depression
As the land covered by avalanche in snow
Winter comes not singly but in battalion
Using all the blues there’re that it knows.

Blue for water, ice, clear or cloudy sky
Health, diseases, obese, other such woes
If a single, or divorced or the spouse awry
It’s blue winter making one blued if so.

Hot Child In the Summer Urban Dwelling

Hot Child In The Urban Summer Dwelling

A Poem by Debbie_Philly

" Poem about the heat in the city ....;) "

Hot Child In the Summer Urban Dwelling

The city streets are buckling under the sticky smoldering heat.
Urban life at this moment can be so draining while tensions are
high. People stop, wipe the sweat from their brow as they attempt
to inhale and breathe. "Hey I heard that wheeze from across the street Tony".

Heat choking the life out of us like a looming marauding monster.
Beads drip from angry faces while tempers flare, sirens roar in a city
of despair. Yes Will Smith's song "Summer Time" and the spark of
nostalgia from BBQ's help but its still Spring.

If you have the money you can take a drive down the Jersey shore
or to the Poconos cooling peaks.
A place to breath without choking pollution, heat advisory's and the smells of
unidentified unknown origins. Don't get me wrong there are allot of redeeming
qualities of summer in the city too.

Dinning alfresco, summer concerts, water ice, open fire plugs, Mister Softy
and block parties. Small reliefs of the constant three wheelers screeching
down the Blvd, fighting neighbors, and relentless dripping humidity.
As they say here on the east coast "If it weren't for the humidity I
wouldn't mind the heat". Sure you wouldn't ( wink)

Windows opened as the baby across the alley way cries and the guy
next door yells at his girlfriend while she fires back screaming
like a fish wife. The poor are getting their relief from a rubber hose
spraying water and the rich are relaxing in the Hamptons. Well I guess
if I had it like that I would enjoy it as well, then again I more
likely would open a home for battered women and children, build the
pool there. **** how I wish I had it like that.

I suppose theres no sense in complaining about the heat, just write
it out the best way I know how to deal. So excuse me while I leave
you now to step onto cool tiles of the tub, turn on the crystal clear
water and wash the clammy sticky heat down the drain. Into the Delaware
river of redemption as I take my sixth shower of the day (wink) .

Premium Member Moon Water

News is there is water ice on the darkest side
of the moon, I wouldn’t drink it just yet,
A gray dirt snow cone is what we’ll get!
Sustaining the cislunar economy, or
linking the moon to the Earth is everything.

Our psyche thirsts for it, bursts of lunar power.
Moon water made during the full moon
or the new moon is most potent.
Tapping into the Luna’s source by steeping
it’s moonglaze, and underneath tomorrow’s
“Ice Moon” it’ll be charged fully.

We are seventy percent water.
The moon affects earthly phenomena,
like tides with its gravitational force.
Our mental state changes with the moon’s phases.
We absorb the Luna's positive aura.
A rare thunderstorm on a full luminous orb,
collects in a glass the energy of the moon
directly under its glow. Charged by the moon’s energy,
Energy so intense it moves oceans!

Perfection

Perfection!

The eyes, evenly spaced, one eye and another, one to a side
The eyes warn of the precipice, find the water, search for prey
The ears hear the risk not seen, one ear and another, one to a side
The ears discern a threat, sense the danger, and caution ‘step away’

All to hint of a plan, that of the perfection of man

The nose, centered, beneath the eyes, nature’s blessing
The nose, a wafting of flowers, a babe’s sweetness, an aroma of spices pure
The mouth, nature bestows its riches, apples, cherries, water ice cold streaming
The mouth, a spoon to nurture, of tasteful pleasures, and we endure

All to hint of a plan, that of the perfection of man

The arms, to heft the bounty, sinew to raise all that is of essence
The arms, to protect loved ones, to embrace, to till the soil
The hands, to build, to feed, to fold in deference to a greater presence
The hands, to calm, to stay the evening chill, to celebrate the harvest of toil

All to hint of a plan, that of the perfection of man

The legs, to lessen the distance between mother and child, to walk, to run
The legs, to ascend the mountain, to follow the trail, to seek the new and leave the known
The feet, to seize the earth, to stride, and in turn, to lower gently, earthward, a victory won
The feet, to stand, to steady, to lean, to tactfully depart once seeds are sown

All to hint of a plan, that of the perfection of man

The mind of man, to conceive, to invent, to ease the burden, to assuage the pain
The mind of man, to conserve the forests, to defend the jungles, to cleanse the water
The Spirit and Soul of man, enduring, unceasing, continuing beyond our earthly plane
The Spirit and Soul of man, to love and revere Nature as mother, as father

All to hint of a plan, that of the perfection of man

Premium Member Italian Water Ice

During a sultry summer’s afternoon,
when anyone can melt away and swoon,
nothing can cool us off quite as nice
as a generous helping of Italian water ice.

Slaves of Roman emperors from ages ago,
would trek into the mountains to gather snow.
They brought it down to mix with fruit and honey.
Thus, we have ambrosia that came to be.

For most folks, it is a seasonal treat.
Anytime in the summer, it is cool and sweet.
With lots of different flavors galore,
once you try some, you will be back for more.

We are familiar with traditional lemon and cherry.
However, have you tried mango and black raspberry?
How about exotic Italian anisette?
Wagering you will like them all is a safe bet.
