She Gathered Roses

~
She gathered roses,
one at a time,
choosing carefully,
for you see, they were her healing

A light breeze tickled her hair
as a brief smile curved upon her soft lips
The sun, bright on this day was a welcome diversion
from the clouds that followed in her mind

Life was green in this meadow
and she enjoyed the green as it flowed
as far as her eyes could see,
snipping yet another pink rose

Not everything was beautiful in her world
but the roses spoke to her, delicate whispers
telling her she was special and that even a thorn
drawing blood could feel good once the pain had subsided

She had touched many thorns in her life,
the scars though faded still decorated her in guilt
A butterfly caught her glimpse, wings of black and blue,
once her colors, now another slice of nature’s wonder

This butterfly was her and she knew it,
free to move about the petals as she pleased
Happily greeting each bloom, caressing the textures
within the safety of her garden

She gathered roses,
one at a time,
choosing carefully
for you see they were her…

Premium Member No Limit To How Long We Grieve

when you let go of my hand
you let go of my heart

as I stumbled and crumbled
life seemed to have paused
silent screams
raged inside

but I was just numb

heart beating in slow motion
life became strange

and

i thought it would make sense
when the pain subsided
but there is no limit
to how long we grieve

and they say
don't let them in
those crazy thoughts
but they echoed and echoed
until i lost my mind
and its worse
when alone
haunted by
profound whispers

and

all I wanted
was an angel
to find me
to not give up on me

but nothing

and now
ive lost all faith
in humanity

and

still im alone
but now drifitng
to a place
i don't want to be

yearning for oxygen

and

no one can catch me

because
when you let go of my hand
you let go of my heart

Premium Member Do Not Cry

Come, my friend,
Do not cry
For
Tears blur your vision of life,
Distorting thus reality

Come, my friend,
Wipe your tears and see how clearer
The world appears:
The shapes, sharper,
The colors, brighter,
The flowers, softer,
The sounds more melodious
The scents more aromatic.

Come, my friend,
Smile and you will enjoy more
Nature’s beauty:
The majestic mountains
The green valleys
The impenetrable forests
The mighty rivers
The endless seas.

Come, my friend,
Laugh and tell me, aren’t:
Your pains subsided?
Your fears minimized?
Your hopes augmented?
Your doubts reduced?
Your dreams intensified?

Come, my friend,
Together we are going to face life, by:
Crying, smiling, laughing, fighting, loving,
Living, and dying.

Come, my friend,
You are not alone anymore for I am next to you
And next to you I will stay,
No matter what may come
For
I wish to help you
So out of this adventure, that life we call, you
Victorious to emerge!

The wood was perfect.
Hammer in hand, he toiled.
Sweat trickled down his neck.
Her face was chiselled,
A perfect portrait:
The hawk-like nose,
The high cheekbones,
The wide brow.
But not her flaring eyes.
They defied him.
In exasperation, he threw the lamp,
His only source of light,
And watched the wood burn.

In the deserted cabin.
In a wooded glen forlorn,
When the fire subsided
They found his body
Long dead, carbonised and cold.
And a piece of chiselled wood
Charred and worthless.

Premium Member Feathered Enchantment

In a room that once commanded great respect,
stage lights began to hiss with heated anticipation.
There were sounds of alcohol infused rumblings
and laughter rolling through the rows of seats
from the tongues of young fancies whose foibles
await the reverence paid to tales that may last
a lifetime.

A baritone voice boomed in imposing prominence
that demanded attention. With such articulation,
trained by years of experience spent in circus tents
and speakeasies, the once proud barker's monologue
cracked from age and fifty years of bad whisky.
He had a past filled with evil deeds and dashed hopes,
but on he stumbled as the introduction to tonight's
show surged from his lips.

A young lady emerged mid-stage from behind a curtain.
A single spotlight bathed her every titillation,
perfectly choregraphed to a pulsing rhythm.
All eyes were fixated as imaginations were provoked
beyond reality. The white feathers of her costume
teased senses and libidos raged while she strutted,
ending with a peek that would even give a preacher
reason to pause.

As the lights dimmed and the cat calls subsided,
backstage an old women picked up her broom and slumped
upon a stool. A tear fell, caressing her weathered cheek.

Breathless, after performing the dance she'd practiced
a thousand times, the young women took her final
curtain call to an uproarious standing ovation.
As she dashed toward the dressing room,
the old woman rose from her stool and the two embraced.
The joyful exuberance was that of a child at Christmas.
Her voice cracked as she exclaimed,
"I haven't felt this alive .
in fifty years!
"My dear sister, may I wear this enchanted costume
again after your next show?" "May I, May I,"
the young girl implored.
"Of course", the old woman replied,
"twins share everything."

Eve

Does the past really matter?
 Does it set you free?
I’m absorbed in the sin,
That is surrounding him and me.

Lost in the curiosity,
Cold to the touch.
Drenched in the poison,
With my dignity in his clutch.

Feeling like I was cheated;
I chose the evil instead of light.
I traded in the sunshine,
For what lurks in the night.

I disobeyed his orders,
I gave up security to be unsure.
I went against the warnings,
Gave into darkness instead of remaining pure.

Once my bed was made of soft grass,
But now it is made of stone.
Was plump from all of the luscious fruit,
Now I’m starving to the bone.

My curse is one of circumstance.
The punishment a crime,
I’m stuck inside this dampened cave,
For the rest of time.
My world came crashing down,
The grief has not subsided.
My heart broke completely,
When my sons collided.

My misery a token,
From the abandonment I earned.
Upon the time spent in sorrow,
There was a lesson to be learned.

Have I found the moral?
Only in time we shall see,
For all I did was eat an apple-
From the Knowledge tree.

Heart Shaped Balloon

I gave you a balloon,
It held my life inside.

Within a shiny rubber tube
components of my soul aligned,
a sign,
I became something new
for you...

Memories
Feelings
Ideas

Each speck
a tickle upon my breath,
a tiny bubble
of nuanced personality;

The strengths of me debrided
the secrets of my lungs,
pink and untold
for you to confide,
ease trouble
in eyes before me.

Yet
were you astute?
Could your mind compute
the depth
of the beautiful find
floating before you?

You bent,
my unique particles ended
their show of strength
broken in length;

You twisted,
crushed and divided
my dreams subsided...

Molded to an unrecognizable form,
I became your norm.

Though you never knew,
my secret hope to survive
my own gift
thrive and lift,
lay within you.

Your grip thirsted control so long,
the pieces of me left burst
to skitter away in song
among soaring clouds,
leaving shrouds of pain
grounded and gone...

Flying far from the land
one beautiful day,
away
from you
and the broken balloon that laid
in your hand.

Eye Candy

Double Acrostic

I just want to mention before you read this poem that "Oasis" by Charmaine Chircop
allowed me the inspiration to write this. Thoughts had been swirling through my mind
for about 24 hours and I was having difficulty finding the form to express them. Those
of you that know me know that I favor difficult forms rather than plain Freestyle.
Thank you Charma, It is good to be back!!

Eye Candy

Erratic, heart thrusting through my chest!
Yoga is in session, followers in succession!
Edible delights without excess embellishment.

Core poses carve, define rippled mid-sections
Anxiety has subsided, muscles relaxed. Objective,
Nurture those curves! Endure tension, calm her nerves.
Durability, her gift is my defection. Connection, A fifteen
Year friendship and we are both free agents!

Premium Member After It Rained

Soon after the sky had shed her liquid sorrow
When dark clouds quickly vanished
It turned immaculate, spotlessly blue.
As the cosmic hiss subsided
And the wind withdrew to its unknown hideout,
There was a hush- the hush that follows,
As the priest concludes his spirited sermon.

In that quiet, when dream and life coalesced
I saw the leaves trembling in the cold
Dragonflies performing a ballet in the air
Their wings catching glints of sunlight
Spiders moving round crystal studded webs,
Repairing the broken filaments of their gossamer
And birds from trees taking off into the sky

Enjoying a pervasive sense of peace
And my heart soaked in pure mirth
Humming the lyrics of a half forgotten song
I walked down through cobbled paths
Feeling the wetness beneath my feet,
To savor the beauty of Nature,
Newly bathed in the profuse vernal shower.

Suddenly the light blazoned,
Giving a golden glow to the leaves
And the suspended rain drops,
Glittered like sparkling gems.
Mesmerized by the beauty of the scene
There wobbled shiny silver droplets of joy
In my eyes too, struggling to be spilled out!

I never should have let you go
You were trying to reach to me
Everything seems all messed up
And this life feels incomplete

I am asking you to share your life
Please tell me fears have subsided
Let me know if you can handle this
To give you my attention undivided

Just look inside to see me now
I am the real what is right
Larger than a physical romance
Next to you, beyond delight

I just needed a little more time
To try evening out this score
I am ready for our life together
To see what I'd missed before

You know I don't mean it literally
Because our love's never a game
I'll forever show you can trust me
Why I love you remains the same

Premium Member An Evening Composition

The noise of the day
has subsided and folded
into a quiet
under the soft covers
of a July evening.
The eyes seem to resist
the particular and instead
focus on nothing
but the sum - the glow
from shore lights
smudged on water,
the dark sky powdered
with translucent clouds
and the faint filaments
of stars strung out overhead.

Tonight, I don't want
the granular detail of things
to steal my attention
but to enjoy the blending,
the stand back meld
of colors, of each stroke,
forming a picture transcending
its parts. I want to feel
the evening being
put together
into a boundless whole,
to be beyond
the smallness of myself
and be absorbed totally
into the mystery
of the composition

Premium Member - I Miss You -

The strong wind hits me on my cold cheek
The bird's escape across the great ocean
My tears, my longing for summer that was
Over high mountains, through deep forests
Let your fingers glide easily over my mouth
Rhythm of the chest, the heart is beating, soul burns
Yearning expression - heat of the closeness
Compared to eternity where the storm has subsided
At dusk I hear the sounds of hours we shared
You are far away, yet close
The yearning for you is a flame
  that will never burn down

Premium Member The Earl of Pence

'Twas a dark and stormy night! (OK - so I'm being a tad histrionic!)
The Earl of Pence was lounging by the fire sipping his gin and tonic.
Lightning flashed and thunder roared sending shivers down his spine.
Even his hound, Lord Percival, was so upset that he began to whine!

'Twas well-known thereabouts that phantoms haunted the earl's castle,
And on such frightful nights they were bound to cause a spooky hassle.
Nefarious deeds had occurred within Penceshire Castle walls in the past,
And were replayed in 'spirited' form leaving generations of earls aghast!

A shriek from the bowels of the castle sent the dog into howling fits,
And brought the earl bounding to his feet, scaring him out of his wits!
The blood-curdling screams were from a former Earl of Pence who in 1642,
Was hung by his thumbs in the dungeon for a fair maiden that he slew!

Suddenly, the ancient organ in the hall began playing eerie chords.
Heard on the floor above was rowdy dancing by ladies, knights and lords.
Ghastly emanations from the past paraded through the terrified earl's room,
Antecedents all, leering and grinning and predicting the anxious earl's doom!

Lord Percival sensing trouble long before, across the moat had bolted!
The storm subsided and the apparitions faded leaving the earl quite jolted!
He felt a bony hand upon his shoulder that took away his final breath.
'Twas his valet who offered a gin and tonic to the earl who now lay in death!

The Huntress

A pursuer at an precocious age,
Instantly able to set the stage.
Unaware of the glare from a piercing stare,
Calculated thoughts and moments planned; the prey would be snared.

Indulging in oratory flights of beautiful language,
Enticed by a venomous tongue the prey languished.
Striking the first note of genuine eloquence,
The Huntress pillaged without rendering an element of forbearance.

The impending execution of the venom ignited an explosion,
That there was an instant expulsion.
From the impending death,
The prey took a long deep breath.

The craving of the Huntress had grown,
The prey subsided with a shuddering moan.
Towered by the Huntress’s shadowing eclipse,
Impetuous feeling the softness of her kiss.

Premium Member Our Fight

Clouds of doubt hovered
Over our heads
They multiplied and grew to
Mistrust
That brewed into a storm of anger which
Unleashed its rage in
Thunder of words and
Lightning of gestures.

In a while
The exhausted tempest subsided
Clouds dissipated
The sun of trust hesitantly appeared
It grew stronger and brighter,
Reason prevailed,
Feelings warmed up,
Harts palpitated,
Arms opened wide
And
We threw ourselves into
Each other's embrace
Finding thus shelter in
Our love

Hence

Fearing the coming of a
A new storm, NO MORE!
