The Chocolate Cake

“And you call yourself a bloody cook”, this mongrel shearer said.
“I oughta ram this rubbish down yer’ throat, it’ll kill a bloke stone dead.”
He’s talking ‘bout the stew I burnt, which I hoped he couldn’t focus.
That he’d gulp it down with ‘red-eye’ wine, and he would fail to notice.

But no, my luck was out, he flew raging from his seat
“You’ve put a taste into my ‘gob’, now I need something sweet,
What’s in the fridge;” he yanked the door, took out a plate and bowl,
On one was chunky custard, and one a mouldy sausage roll.

“Look at this!” The shearer screamed, so all the mob could see.
First they eyed the sausage roll, and then looked back at their tea.
“Hang on” I said, “You ‘mangy’ lot, what you’re seeing here,
Is something I can’t be blamed for, they’re from the cook last year.”

“Git’ the boss!” I heard yelled out, and one went for the door.
I need this job and need it bad … to them I vowed and swore.
I’ll clean out the fridge and lift my act; then promised I would bake,
A treat for them on Wednesday ... my special chocolate cake.

My memory’s a little blank, for the ingredients I need,
I’ve got most in the cupboard, with no recipe to read,
Butters scarce but lard will do, and the milks a little sour.
None of them are ‘gunna’ notice, the weevils in the flour.

There’s salt and caster sugar, I need cocoa but there’s none,
There is a tin of milo though; its use by date is March of sixty-one,
That’s everything to make the cake; all I need’s an egg to bind,
Oh yes! There are two in the fridge; last years cook had left behind.

I got down the mixing bowl, and took some water from the tank,
Spooned out a couple of wrigglers … the dead ones to the bottom sank.
I’m not sure about the ounces or the tablespoons and such.
Cups of this with drops of that, but does that really matter much.

The only time I wasn’t sure, and felt maybe should I renege,
When I cracked the shell and found, a half grown chicken in the egg.
But they’re shearers here, big and strong, who’d never get to eat,
Let alone a chocolate cake, but one that’s made with meat.

The oven’s hot, the textures great, I greased the baking dish.
The cake was cooked and it smelt great … every shearers wish.
But a chicken’s foot stuck out the top; I cut out and ate that bit.
You know this chocolate cake of mine, tasted – more – like … ‘passionfruit’!

Premium Member Ode To H2o

H2o, showers does cause colorful flowers on earth to greatly bloom
It is on the atomic table: this of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen
It being the transportation medium for all nutrients needed
Vital for all living cells absorbing their daily organic sustenance

H2o, in fruits juicy gushing gushers are oranges and watermelons
It assist us with our hygienic health and cleanses clothes
There in the sea we can do swimming, snorkeling and surfing
Grapes, of red and white wine fluids facilitate taste bud pleasure

H2o, in a human’s body is about 65%; that is liquid water
Steam vapors are in turbines and in steamboats and ship generators
Rains at cold temps produce unique snowflakes that falls to earth
Rivers and lake reservoirs are fresh water access and storage

H2o, in life, love, living and leisure, all is connected
Recommended is the drinking of it at eight ounces per daily usage
Medicines and milk and mangos all contain this wonderful substance
This transparent, pure, refreshing, and very much liked and is needed

A dedicated ode to “the gloriously created and greatly used H2O

I Do Love Food

>I do love food.

When I was young, food was rationed.
So much of this, or that, you were allowed.
Each person had a ration book for adults and a child.
So much butter so much sugar, a few ounces of meat.
If you grew your own produce, fresh veg was a treat.
And what was put on the table, you did love to eat.

Many years have passed, and food is not rationed anymore.
The choice on the supermarket shelf, tells there is no sign of war.
Now we are leaving the EU, what will the supermarkets do?
Will the shelves be empty and bare?
Or will more British produce be for sale there.
I do love food, so hope it’s there.
British, nice with a price that’s fair.<

Flashback To Present

The continuous memories scattered inside my mind
All the laughter and loving scenes are left behind
Leaving a life of bad possibilities where I came from
Never getting a chance to show how I overcome

Although it was bad I left something more important
A mother’s smile a little brother and my childhood
The moments that made me hide and stay quiet
Never understood but always wished I could

I wished and watched my life past before my eyes
Hearing lonely nights of my father’s cries
All the women who watched and waited
For the chance their love’ll be overrated

The beating of your heart crashing your chest
Hope dad knows how much I tried
All the women in and out and never get the best
He tried to hide the feeling with lies

Flashback to the present to resist
pain and a missed checklist
A little girl who was 4 and now 14
Looking at the past to see what it means and what she missed

I’m sorry for not helping when I could
you say it’s not my fault but it should
The countless things that way tons and ounces
Becomes the burned wall that my life announces

My life in the present is a closed book of rejection and regret
I Work harder in the present than in the past,
without a chance to wipe off the sweat,
Without a chance to make the good memories last

All I’m told is to let it go and let the past be the past
But how am I supposed to forget so soon and so fast?
As much as I try I continue to flashback to those moments
Knowing that even if I do forget, my life won’t have enjoyment

I continue to flashback and come back to the present
There will be no change without consent

My Son

Lucas my son, you are my world
My amazing bundle of joy
Born 8 pounds and 8 ounces
Words cannot express the love I have for my baby boy
Your birth was difficult
We had alot to face starting out
But with all the pain and the emotional stay
I would do it all again for you any day
You are my miracle that wasn't supposed to be
I thank God for giving you to me
I'm proud to be your mommy
It's the greatest gift I could ever receive
Even though it may be hard with it just being you and me
Just know that I couldn't be more happy
I will never leave you, that I could never do
I will stand by you thick and thin
I will hold you close and cherish you dearly
That is your mother's promise to you

Premium Member Within the Cage Part One

In the porch of my house
Is hung a cage, small
In it dwells two inhabitants
Ounces of flesh in feathered coats
Two Finches, a male and a female

The vastness of the sky being denied
Do they live in regret?
Do they have dark remorse?
Do they miss the fair fields?
Do they long for the blue skies?
Do they envy the birds flying high?
I wonder…..!

This cage is their sky and their world
Here they co habit in love
Unruffled by confinement
Often seen preening their feathers
I see them doing it for each other
At times they seem to sit entranced
Their songs are not of plaintive notes

Across the bars they see the sun,
The moon and the stars
Remote from preying predators
They live in unperturbed solitude
Loneliness heightening their need for each other

When we turn to them
We hear their sweet murmurous tweets
And the fragrance of their love
Seeps into our wistful lives
With night fall, they cuddle together
Close, so close, she and he locked as one
In such indivisible togetherness!

There upon they sleep
Drowsing…. drowsing deep!

Premium Member Dear Mrs Clause

The reason for this post Christmas fax
Knowing Santa needs most to relax
After eating my fudge
He thought I had a grudge
To sneak him four ounces of ex lax

But was all a very sad mistake
Later to him regrets I will make
Rich food so delicious
Can be most pernicious
It was there for my relief to take.

Long Time, No See

Here's a lighter bro
Spark up that home grown
Smoke going up ashes going down
This Indica ain't from around town
And I haven't seen you in a while
Since you moved down town
Hey, your wife wants you to settle down
But why does she always frown
Whenever I visit?
Is it because
I get your flat really cloudy
Smoking up ounces?
Is it because
I get your flat really dirty
Coz I'm clumsy with the ashes?

Premium Member Dancing In the Rain

Rains of world's zillion drops
Ounces of jubilation and madness
Drains the clouds' teardrops
Bounces in invitation, not sadness

Rains over trees and heads that greets
Medleys in bees and hearts that sing
Pains healed when the sun and moon meets
Chimneys of hearth eject and bring

Rains of summer and misty skies
Skylining like rainbows before twilight
Drops of wonder flitting like dragonflies
Drizzling, soothing the hearts of the night

Premium Member Alcohol: Moderation Is the Key

Alcohol is a culturally accepted drug
Many drink alcohol at point in their lives
Some only drink during social occasions
Others may have an evening glass of wine

Moderate alcohol consumption can reduce your risk of heart disease
The benefit is not so great that a non-drinker should consider drinking alcohol
About 1/3 of those drinking alcohol will develop problems with alcohol
Drinking problems can increased your risk of serious health problems
Accidents
Or injuries

If you want to drink alcohol
Moderate consumption is considered safe
Moderate drinking is considered 2 drinks a day for men
1 a day for women or lighter-weight men

A drink is 12 ounces of beer
5 ounces of wine
1 ½ ounces of hard liquor
Each one counts as one carbohydrate choice

Stage Fright

Counting imaginary sheep
Hoping to persuade my mind to sleep
Anxious and terrified to step on stage, tomorrow,
Its three am and I'm already searching for courage
Fast forward freeze frame,
My stomach feels like there's a butterfly on flames,
Sweaty palms and salty saliva,
Really wishing I was only the receiver
Not the deliverer,
My alias is called out by the announcer,
But I pretend to be someone else, call me the bouncer,

Piercing eyes in curious skulls loiter,
Searching for this petrified poetic potter,
My soul gathers its last ounces of bravery,
I grace the lime light like I am abolishing slavery,
Testimony, that was a lame first impression ,
So I dice my conscience to amuse your expectations,
For charmed by your gaze you are my inspiration,
Liberation, transformation listen to this elaboration,

Without you there wouldn't be this lyrical respiration,
For my words are transportation,
Your longing hearts are my destination,
I am a citizen and you are my nation
My nourishment when I'm facing starvation,
I'm out. Standing ovation!

Premium Member In Essiac I Trust

The tea I use was born in Canada.
Holistic doctors told me of its name.
This strange concoction does a lot of good
with curing cancer its main claim to fame.

A nurse and doctor took its formula
and bettered it. Of that, there is no doubt.
The herb most vital is its sheep sorrel,
but don’t buy brands that leave this herb’s roots out.

Eight herbs for health include blessed thistle and
red clover, watercress, and wondrous kelp,
slippery elm bark and there are two more
whose roots, like sheep sorrel’s, are a big help.

Ten minutes you must boil it. Later, put
it in the fridge; it settles like brown sludge.
You have to shake it up before each use.
That sludge does not taste anything like fudge!

Online, the testimonials of those
whose cancer has been cured is not a few.
And there are other things incredible
this tea named Essiac can do for you.

Destroyer of free radicals it is -
removing toxins, healing, helping pain.
It aids digestion, even strengthens bones
and nourishes and stimulates the brain.

The list of all it does goes on and on.
So many illnesses this tea can fight.
I make enough to last for two week’s time
and drink three ounces morning, noon and night.

It’s bitter but not horrible; I’ve made
this tea my daily habit because I
am at high risk for cancer, so my friend,
in Essiac I'll trust until I die.

For the Wake up with Coffee or Tea Poetry Contest of Kim Rodrigues

NOTE: I will put info above for anyone interested in checking out this tea. Also,
I can put you in touch with people who can vouch for it. This tea was nearly made a national cure for cancer in Canada (back in the 70's) until it got shot down in their congress by the pharmaceuticals (surely we cannot go against THOSE guys!) Of course, nothing is fool proof, and they do not claim to cure all cancers all of the time; however, I intend to use this tea for prevention's sake for as long as I can afford it, which will hopefully be for a long time. For info on the best quality and price you can find, check out my link.
