Notes About The Poem

AI 'Winners'

open a blind eye ~ and see you're being duped by those using AI sniff out those taking credit for cheating ~ real poets they're defeating a concept I can't accept ~ from people whose poetry is inept sometimes it's really difficult to prove ~ but an issue to behoove call them out if it matters ~ don't serve them trophies on silver platters if you couldn't care less ~ it's no wonder poetry soup is a mess disheartening to say the least ~ is it possible to slay the beast it's happening, there's no doubt ~ they're being given far too much clout this message may be falling on deaf ears ~ if so, then I give up... cheers!

Lin, not sure what you're comment means exactly. I've been writing long before AI, and happily so. The tech is creating tensions, not just here, but in many other places. What I have said is that there needs to be regulation, guidelines, and better moderation of content. People are not as sincere as we would wish them to be, but I don't want to be walking around, pointing fingers at my fellow writers either...trying to see if I catch them in a lie. Administrators need to do their job better.

There is no meaning other than exactly what it says. PS has no responsible administrators. I stopped feeling tension and threatened by AI. I’m happily ensconced in other poetry sites and only remain here because of a few longtime and kind friends.

I was a part of another online writing community, and the use of AI was blatant. It became irritating. I left them and joined here. I do believe AI can be a useful tool for writers. I also use it as an educator. Resources in Caribbean schools are limited. AI helps to maximize work time by generating assessments and reports. However, for contests (unless there are clear guidelines on how AI is to be used), it should not be permitted. It's harder to tell fake from real because AI is adaptive.

QFE: "I write for myself first, what the world sees in the words are just gifts others choose to give back to me. If anyone believes I write to impress they have been given the wrong impression" I'll drink to this exquisite poem, Lin! Thank you for being exceptionally you!Warmly A.S.

I hope they are trying to figure something out. I heard of one possible AI, ran an AI on the poem and it returned 0%.

Part of the problem is that different AI detectors search for different things. Same poem one shows at 80%, another detector might show as 20% or even 0%. Seems fruitless. Thanks for the info, Kim.

Lin, a powerful string of monoku's and so true. It's a shame that some of the PS members feel the need to use AI to win contests. It's such a joke, they have no integrity and are just fooling themselves to take credit for being fake. I am considering not continuing with contests due to this factor. A fav for me.

It's put a stranglehold on those who once entered contests for competition. Not so much fun anymore, Tania. I don't blame you or any other judge for rolling up your contest mats and being done with it. Thanks for the comments and the fave.

Dear Lin, What a breath of fresh honest air in a world that sometimes feels too artificial. I love how you pull no punches and your words are sharp, real and needed. It’s tough seeing genuine voices drowned out, but your courage to speak is lauded. We must keep poetry true. I’m grateful for your friendship and your fearless pen. Blessings, My Dear Lin, Daniel

G'morning, Daniel and thank you for paying attention to what's become a problem for some of us. Others just don't seem to care. I've no solution as to how to keep poetry true, but one thing is for certain to me... AI users should never be rewarded. I'm glad you agree. PS warns: "AI generated poems are not allowed." That's a joke, but not a laughable one. Thanks, Daniel.

Well said Lin, but you know as well as I do that nothing will be done. Not so long back PS was advertising a book of AI poems, anything for a quick buck. I'm beginning to wonder if this site is run by AI, because when you try and make contact to complain you get a negative response. Sent two emails over the last two days and haven't had the courtesy of a reply. A big fave for me. Tom

Yes, Tom it's been documented time and again that the need for an administration that actually manages the site has not been governing to see that its own rules are being met and kept. There's no excuse for ignoring paying members and too often when complaints are made WITH proper documentation, nothing ever comes of it. I had some steam that needed venting, so I let go! lol coo coo ca choo choo! And the AI users will keep rolling.

Hi Lin, I can't understand why people would want to win so much that they would use AI, why they would like to be top in the comments. No one ever needs to cheat. You get more out of poetry when you write from the heart and the soul, no matter what the skill level. Poetry should always remain an art in itself. Using AI makes a poem only words for a computer cannot feel and we know when something comes from the heart. An excellent write, Lin. Your friend always ..... Mike. XXX

Hiya, Mike. That's the frame of mind a real poet should have. Unfortunately, some prefer virtual glory to integrity. We've been friends a long time and have shared many collaborations. Thank you for having always been such a good friend. hugs.

Lin, sometimes it seems as if some comments are written by AI too. It's a waste of our time, and you're absolutely right to point out the destructive force this form of cheating unleashes. We really do want to "feel" what exists in each others' hearts. In a way I pity those using AI to write their poetry or comments since doing so indicates they have some mental disorder. It's more important to be truthful than anything else. The accolades here won't change anyone's life. Anyone thriving on winning contests through AI needs a shrink. The writing itself is supposed to be fun. In fact, for those of us writing the old fashioned way, it is fun and serves a cathartic purpose. It can create a natural high which the cheaters will never grasp.

Duke, I, as well as others are aware of the one(s) whose analytical comments are textbook AI. I'm so fed up with contest after contest rewarding those who claim to be a 'poet' but cheat the system because they've found a way for AI to humanize their entries by commanding AI to generate an entry in the form of realism using spoken word. What are they missing in their lives? I really don't want to know their plight, but it's cast shadows on the site. Thanks so much for your thoughts, Duke.

WOW!!! What a write you have here. On the "Submit Poems Page" it has No AI. If No AI is allowed, then they should be called out. On my writes I started putting "Written By Human Poet." A computer can Not write from the heart because they do Not have a heart. AI is taking over the world so why would we think it would Not talk over poems??? Have a lovely day writing away............

Hi sweet poetry sister... It's been almost 10 years for me, and this last year has been the worst downhill slide I've ever felt. The kitchen needs an overhaul, but I've had my say and if no one listens I'll be able to say as some others have... we gave warning. Thanks a lot, Jan.

A brave poem Lin, and I feel your frustration with the AI invasion on soup, sponsors too must share the responsibility if they serve out trophies to AI fraudsters on silver platters, you deserve an accolade for this fine string of rhyming Monoku, I’ve no trophy but I can and will award a fave, Cheers David

I'll continue to write but not for contests. Butterflies are being torn apart by the talons of Robotic Hawks, so my contest challenges are being taken up on another site.

I proudly accept your fave, knowing that my Monoku were written with 5 fingers instead of a click on an AI generator, and are being read... whether or not people care. If sponsors refuse to pay attention, they're as much to blame as admin for not enforcing their "NO AI" policy. It's not always easy to detect them, but geeze... at least try. Constance has been able to find the frauds and kicked one out of her recent contest. Thank you, David.

Dear Linnersz, I dont understand the need to use AI to receive fake accolades. I would like to ask those that use AI, one question “ Why???” Sadly AI lies are winning on so many poetry platforms where I am on too, and its disheartening…like JL said below, all i know is whether my poems are too flowery, too dark, too unicorns and butterflies or too bla bla, i write what i feel whether for contests or not, as I like to write a poem a day. To keep the therapists away lolol. Sending you light always

Some of us have asked but those who are using AI act the part of innocence and accept awards and accolades that are undeserved. Your poetry may be called flowery by some, but it's your unique style, Ink and I've come to admire what your lovely words express. Reading your poetry is like unfolding every one of your velvet petals to find a perfect bud in the center. Continue being true to your style. You and I are not the ones who need therapists. ;-)

all I know is that everything I write is filtered through the madness of my oft troubled mind and the depth of my inner being's search for ... whatever inner beings search for. Unlike circus clowns there are no "bulbous red noses" or "big floppy shoes" with which to identify them

John, your poetry comes from a place no AI could ever fathom. Those who are using AI to post and also win contests need to have their noses rubbed in the dung heap their stench is leaving on the site. Some of us can smell them a mile away. Thanks for responding. ;-)
