Only Make Believe

Love me though it's only make believe
Kiss me though I really know
You hold me close to just deceive;
Let that one sweet second flow
Over me lest it sink and break
My poor heart, for pity's sake.

Lend me faith for my belief
Give me from your eyes a smile;
Take away this wretched grief
And hold me close a little while.
I suffer now and surely know
You tease me with my forlorn woe.

Sing to me sweet and low
Tell me that you gently weave
Dreams of me although I know
You only play at make believe.
It hurts so much although it's plain
You are the one who scorns my pain.

Let's Play Pretend

Let's play pretend
Pretend you are the hero and I am the damsel in depression

You sold me a magic future you'd crafted out of fool's gold
And I fell into the shimmer
A siren song in rough seas and
 I sang merrily we fall

What adventure novels did I neglect
While chasing a happily ever after lie
Though you were a tragedy in your own right

You were a rum drunk pirate
On a pain soaked ship
And I haven't the heart to call you a villan

I should have known
when you said you didn't read much
That you'd be the chapter I wish I could tear out
page by page
And burn like witchcraft
Turn your memory to smoke and ash

The boy who would not grow up
And the girl who could not make him

I forced you to see your reflection though
Not in a rippled tide pool
But exactly as it was
And you could not hide from yourself then

Let's pretend I'm the fairy godmother
and I'll grant you this one year to the midnight
Tell me
Did you think I'd ever find the courage to leave?

Let's pretend
You never said the things you did
And I never cried behind a steering wheel
Trapped screaming prayers to St. Anthony
To find the me I lost chasing you

Let's pretend
I didn't instead find silver spoons in snowboard boots
Or empty liquor bottles in full laundry baskets
Or the patience before I lost it and transformed as though by dark magic into someone spiteful

Let's pretend
I never wanted to make you hurt
The way you made me hurt
And let's pretend I never tried.

Let's pretend
That water is not vodka
And that I am not as stupid as you made me feel

Let's pretend
Like the time you shoved me into the wall was the only time you were a rough sea to me and it was only because you were weather worn

Let's pretend
I was in love with you
and not the role you wrote for yourself before I found out your true character

Let's pretend
We aren't as complicated as we are
And in my story you can be a sick evil pirate
And in your story I can be a vile gypsy witch
And in our story we are just sad, frustrated kids,
In a dark love,
In over our heads,
No breadcrumbs to lead us out,
In a Grimm fairytale
Made for morals
Not happily ever after

Make - Believe

A character born from the words on the page
Absorbed into me, words released from their cage
Once spoken from the voice, the one that rings true
The connection is made, imagination shines through
Embrace the character you see, in your mind’s eye
Develop and make your own, as the weeks pass by
Taking centre stage, as one, but with parts of many
Character ghosts of my past, all wanting to be free
Therapeutic, full of glee, relief from conscious me
The real is submerged to make way for make- believe

Once upon a time in the land of make believe, the daring deceive.
In dreams, there are schemes some strive to achieve.

Believe In Make Believe

I loved when she believed in make believe,
she was my baby girl,
grown up tonight,
and moved on like a flash of light,
she smiles over me,
and asks if I had eaten,
and if I’d lie, she’d see,
I watched her crawl, and fall,
daddy, she’d call,
she would then walk,
and talk,
laughed when she would scrape her knee,
oh God I miss when she believed in make believe,
now there is a tear in my eye,
and I’d try not to cry,
she would make sure I’d feel good,
and she always understood
everything I’d teach,
she’d play with her dolls and all her toys,
she was my life’s joy,
I miss those days,
while she was growing up,
I’d show her the ways,
now as I lay in bed,
she wipes my forehead,
she would always be here,
always near,
just as I was for her,
I could sense her fear,
but she would make me happy during my last breath,
and her face was the last image I would see,
when approaching death.

The Make Believe Man

Why did you say yes when you really meant no?
Why did you stay when you wanted to go?
Why did you convince me that you were so in love with me?
Why did we sit up all night drinking wine until three?
Why did you hold my hand and tell me that we were to grow?
Why did you promise me the things that would never be so?
Why did you hold me close and cry tears of joy?
Why did you say I was your soul mate when you always planned to leave?
Why did you read me fairytales?
Then kissed me so sweet?
Why did you lie beside my body every night?
When it didn’t mean a thing.
Why did you paint dreams in my eyes?
Why did you lie to me?
Why did you then search for reasons to leave?
Why did you shut me out in the cold
And plan on never saying goodbye to me?
The night you left
My life turned black

You had given me beer when I asked for tea
And did I mention that I know you lied to me?
Words built on flimsy, torn paper
Yet you managed to get the very best of me
Months I blamed myself
For the disappearance of you
You see now I question what other false words were said
Or how you could live in the knowing
Then sleep soundly beside me in my bed
The puzzle fits
The instinct was right
Now no more tears can be shed
For the make believe man
You see all of these things I will never know
Or why you said yes
When you really meant no

Why even try to explain, its insane
when I take a sneak peak at my life,
I often feel cloned and unreal.
Reality smacks and I'm under attack
I dream and I dream like a dope,
savoring slices of make-believe pie.

I'm up all day
can't sleep at night
maybe I'm wrong
or maybe I'm right
I'm seeking truth
but all I can find
are only the truths
that are in my mind.
Is it all real
or is it all lies?
I guess in the end
it's what everyone buys.
Is there hope at all
because I can't see
is there hope for you
is there hope for me?
The world's in a spin
when will it end
who is a foe
and who is a friend?
The voices all say
the things that they must
but are these voices
ones I can trust?
The words that they say
I hear in my brain
are they for real
or am I insane?
'Cause I'm hearing things
that never were said
who killed the truth
who wanted it dead?
I guess in the end
it's what you conceive
about what is truth
and what's make believe.

Premium Member The Twilight of Reality and Make Believe

In the twilight~~~~ of reality and make believe~~~
                    There where dreams hover
                        on the wings of Night
And stillness belies the passage of honored TIME
There, there in the palm of Eternity
                                we meet

We meet in this haven of Tranquility’s b*r*e*a*t*h
Perfumed by Love’s signature serene scent
These two lovers meticulously bind our naked souls
with surreal and real bonds of floral fantasy fusion
                    until...yes...bound until...
we are one and the universe is undone
In the fluid mixture of homogenous
                              E C S T A C Y
                                ....and....

In the twilight~~~ of reality and make believe~~~~
In absence of formulated thought or lived out dream
In the nothingness of truth and the perfection of harmony
                         We lie, you and I…..
and the moments, the hours, the days, the years and yes….eternity
                      Simply….pass us by….
                                   We lie
                                  We sigh
                                   We die
                                 You and I
                                     One

Let's imagine that you loved me
Would it be so hard to do?
And then, we'll pretend - while making believe - that I might, ...love you too

What would happen if you held me
Would it change the things you've planned?
Then, imagine love that lasts 'til the end...
Just pretend..... if you can...

We'll just pretend..., (again), we're more than friends, .. (and then)
                              that love ... happens within...

where dreams come true, (do come true) - (ours could come true),......
Would you.... pretend?

Let's imagine it's tomorrow
Is it just too far to see?
Here we are, you and me, with stars up above ,
making love ............ can't you see?

It could happen... if you let it
It would not be hard to do
But it's only a game, that we could make real..... if believed. - Let's believe !

If you could see, ...(how close you are),.. beyond the stars, (what's ours) ....
               is not so far away
Believe in me... we'll wish on stars... it's not so hard

Just imagine that you loved me
Would it be too hard to do?

No Hope-- No Grace --Juste Make Believe

Popeye blew his smoke screen;
Trying to take away a favorite girl
And the man must consider asking== Popeye;
Just what is it exactly that’s in that spinach?
Has it fermented or maybe you just lost your mind little man.
     Then with his best Irish baroque Popeye becomes a leprechaun;
     As if maybe the luck of the Irish might be enough to;
Get to this fine specimen of womanhood.
     One thing for sure he’s going to need a hell of a lot more money;
Maybe he ought to spend his time looking for that illusive pot of gold first.
Spinach breath goes on about how lucky the man is and;
How much he wishes he could be like him.
And the woman she’s thinking when I dance with a man;
I like to put my head on a man’s shoulders not rest my chin on his head.
And so it must go coming from the shire yet searching in the clouds.

Premium Member Lies of Make Believe

When you’re dreaming of make believe
You better read between the lines to see
It’s the same old story that's both sad and cheap
Of things that almost were
And yet never meant to be
.
You convinced yourself
You could be someone else
If that's what he needed and wanted you to be
No matter how hard you tried
You could always tell by the look in his eyes
But you were reading between the lines
And trying to believe the lies
And dreamed of make believe
Of things never meant to be
.
Just one more time
It won't be like before
This time I really mean it
You've heard a thousand times or more
And you want to believe
But way down deep
You know it was never meant to be
.
And the longer that you go
The more you lose your soul
Promises made of fragile glass
The test of time cannot mask

Premium Member Let's Make Believe

What game shall we play today?
I know; let's pretend we're farm animals; hooray!
Everyone, put your hands on your side,
and like our friend the chicken, spread your arms wide.

Now flap around and make a clucking sound
as you scratch for food on the ground.
To be a chicken is such a treat,
scratching at the earth with your chicken feet.

Perhaps you would rather be a duck,
now, ducks quack; only chickens cluck.
But a duck gets to swim and waddle about;
and has the softest feathers, no doubt.

Now, let's all act like we're a cow:
remember, a cow says moo, a cat says meow.
Try not to mix the two up; okay.
Now, who can tell me what a goat would say?

A goat says maa and wears a shaggy coat:
so, who here wants to be a goat?
Let's make believe we're on old Macdonald's farm
with our barnyard friends, who delight us with their charm.
