Best Lights Are On Poems

Premium Member Old Jack the Halloween Scrooge

Old Jack hated Halloween night.
The constant ringing of his doorbell
he didn't like. So he turned off his
household lights.
His wife said, "Why did you go and
do that, Jack?" he replied "They
won't see the house, and I'll get
some rest!"
Little did Jack know that the Trick
or Treaters were determined. They
found his house, rang his doorbell
and Jacks anger just worsened!
Every time Jack got up from his
easy chair, you could hear him
mumbling to himself, and start to
swear!
The little kids would yell, "Trick
or Treat!" Jack would throw the
candy in their bags, and say half
jokingly, OK now let me be!
    The doorbell would ring over
and over again. Each time the dog
would bark and Jack would cringe!
His wife would say, "Jack why
do you have to be so mean?" His
reply was, "These kids drive me
insane, non stop, that's why I hate
this Halloween!"
"Every year it's the same old
thing. The doorbell rings, and rings!"
His wife said, "Jack can't you
see the joy you bring?" "It doesn't
matter if the doorbell rings,and
rings."
     "My parent's never took me
Trick or Treating. So, I never did
experience what little boys and
girls are feeling."
She felt sad for Jack she took
him by the hand and said," It's never
too late Jack, if you are willing."
They joined a group of children,
as they stopped and got some treats.
The homeowners looked at Jack in
wide- eyed disbelief!
He noticed all the fun the children
felt, as they went from door to door!
And he felt a joy overtake his heart,
and something much, much, more!
He and his wife said goodbye to
their little friends that night.
And Jack became a little boy, as he
relived his boyhood side.
Every year since he changed his
ways. Jack can't wait. To hear the
footsteps of his little friends, come,
Halloween day!
His house lights are on, and his wife
is by his side. With a great big smile
he answers the door, and acts
frighteningly surprised!
The children love Jack, it's their
favorite house to go. He fills their bags
with so much candy, their bags just
overflow.

Premium Member Permanent Check-Mate

I am standing naked on a crowded street
But nobody seems to be noticing me
I am less embarrassed by my nakedness
Than by my invisibility

They all seem to be looking right through me
Or staring down at the concrete walk
With iPod plugs shoved deep into their ears
Nobody can hear me talk

I try flagging down a taxi
But their “Off Duty” lights are on
On the black and white checkerboard
I am the sacrificial pawn

The Queen moves in every direction
The King is rooted in place
I try catching the eye of a policeman
But he has mirrored glasses upon his face

The world is swirling in circles
The Bishop runs off with a boy
My wife no longer lies with me
She prefers her electrical toys

The teacher wakes me up in class
Why am I in school when I’m fifty-five
I don’t remember being captured by the Rook
Is it possible I’m no longer alive

The King has no more safe squares to go
Laying him down is his only fate
Tangled up in a sticky spider web of life
I’m stuck in a permanent check-mate

A Dick With a Glove

Very loosely based on Robert Palmer’s song Addicted To Love – I understand the lyric is often mis-quoted hence the title.

The lights are on, were both at home
Your todger has a mind of its own
Our hearts beat, our bodies quake
Making love is what it takes
We start to moan, we start to grind
Sex is always on your mind
There’s no doubt your in deep
With all this sex we never sleep
Another kiss is all you need
Ooh ohhh

You always wear your rubber glove – oh yeah
Cos we’re not ready to have a baby to love
Guess it’s always safer to stick your dick in a glove

You see the signs when we do the deed
But still you ride me like steed
You're going at it double time
Honey you've got a one-track mind

There's no hope you can't be saved
Sexual oblivion is all you crave
Nymphomania is nothing new
But honey it sure thrives in you

Whoa I'm not immune to your stuff oh yeah
Lets face it baby I can't get enough
I might as well face it I'm addicted to your love.

Premium Member Don't tell mamma

don't tell his mamma
how the sun did not rise today
although it was a cloudless dawn
he could only feel the coldness of rain

don't tell his mamma
how he is hiding his grief
although he may not flow in tears
he is consumed with sorrows

don't tell his mamma
how he is trying to ignore the demons
although he looks strong
he is crumbling inside

don't tell his mamma
how he sits alone in his room
although the lights are on
he can only see the darkness

don't tell his mamma
how lonesome he feels
although he is loved and adored
he feels no one really understands

don't tell his mamma
how only melancholic songs appeal
although he is silent
he plays them on repeat to help him feel

don't tell his mamma
how he has not eaten in days
although his pantry is full of food
he no longer feels the pangs of hunger

don't tell his mamma
how he can no longer control his thoughts
although his mind is sane
he did not sleep all night

don't tell his mamma
how he feels there is no cure for his illness
although he has pills galore
he feel they have no impact

don't tell his mamma
how he feels he has lost his purpose
although his garden still blossoms
he can only see dead blooms

don't tell his mamma
how he searches for a father he never had
although he is a role model to many
he is a guide without a mentor

don't tell his mamma
how tired he has become
although he will continue to smile
he is not afraid if he does not see a new dawn

don't tell his mamma
how he ignores my voice
although he can hear me
he refuses to reignite his fire

please tell his mamma
how he does not want her to worry
although he is falling
he knows he will get back up one day

Aliens Choking On Oxygen

I was here
I was here
First

I was here

First

Take a breath of
oxygen
Your choking on
confidence
The lights are on
but you cant see
Slit wrist
Bleed

You took my life
from me
Let us come back
You stole the air we
breath
Let us come back

I was here first
Choking on oxygen
I was here first
Choking on oxygen
I was here first
Choking on oxygen

You took my life
from me
Let us come back
You stole the air we
breath
Let us come back
Choking
Like Aliens

Gone 2

Gone 2

My lights are on
But I'm not home
I've gone to look for me.
It's on my own
That I have gone
In hopes of finding me.
I don't recall
The time at all
When I began to seek,
Or from the wall
The picture fall
That kept me on my feet.
I only know
As on I go
If you run into me...
Just say, "Hello."
And gently show
The pathway back to me.

the lights are on but nobody is home,
the confused elderly mumble and roam,
at the nursing desk they stand,
their minds in another land,
no shoes, no clothes, the hair could use a comb.

The lights are on all throughout the city
The vast amount of light exists around
The fainting love spell, such divinity
A long enhanced greatness so abound

Pieces of delight are within each scene
The lights are on all throughout the city
Cars express their glory, by lights they’re seen
And each home brings about light pleasantly

Passion floats within the air completely
There are immense delights while just roaming
The lights are on all throughout the city
Enlightenment shown by all approaching

Like a swinging light switch in a warm room
Baring the basics of necessity
Misty eyed people approach without doom
The lights are on all throughout the city

The curtain is closing, the door shut.
Lights are on, bed is dressed in white.
                                      Utensils keep on clanging.
Sweat and blood are gently flowing.
                            Tension, pain and countless breathing.
There's no seconds to be wasted.
The embers of time to save lives in hands.
Life support generates to sustain their life.
And the long hours of waiting are done.
The door opens, people came out from the light.
                                Successful momentum has arrived.
Tears are softly coming out from the eyes.
An angel was sent from above,
Is now cradling in the arms of his dad.
The embers of love from the heart.
Is flaming like a hot lava rushing in the ground.
The life from a newborn child, made two hearts ignite.

Invisible Scars

Thoughts in my head that no one can see
Monsters in my room, how did they come to be?
The lights are on, but for some reason it's still dark
no one can see my invisible scars

People can't see it so they don't believe it
A ton of invisible scars that I bleed with
When I fly off the handle, you'll say I should have talked and opened that door
But when I talk about my mental health, it's something you ignore

I'm being bullied by a mental illness called Depression
I'm being laughed at by anxiety
I'm trying to provide answers for the hundreds of questions
In a room full of noise, I stand in the corner quietly

Hands sweating when I'm in public
I don't like strangers getting close
I've been stabbed in the back by people I hugged with
Lost in a lot of pain but I'm still trying to find hope

I made plans to go out, but I don't have the strength to leave my bed
Depression beats me down so much I can't get it out of my head
I'm trying to be stronger but I feel weak
plus anytime I fight back its still me who bleeds

Mental health is ignored because people can't see it
We get ignored when we talk about it, that's why we keep it a secret
The lights are on but for some reason it's still dark
We're trying our best when we deal with our invisible scars

Addicted To Gloves

The lights are on, but you're not home
You sit in your car all alone
You try on different brands, different styles
You try to control your primal instincts, living so wild
Ecitement fills the air, you buy some Dove chocolates, you get a free pair
This is the one thing in life you will not share
This is the thing that will make you be a loner
Right now you are relishing over the feel of your Isotoners
You look up and thank the Heavens above
For your strong addiction to gloves
The leather ones bring out the naught girl in you
The cloth ones go good with your Converse All Star classic shoes
Your scuba diving ones scream all hands on deck
Add your diving knife, then you are saying, whip me beat me, make me write bad
checks
When you get out of the car, you discover when you wear them, you can still apply
your anti theft device, the club
Come on, come clean, admit it, you are addicted to gloves
You rush into Walmart for the early morning sale beginning at 3 am
Get a pair of slice proof ones when you purchase 2 cans of Spam
No one really knows what your hands look like
You wear combat ones when watching UFC on Spike
Everyone knows what a bizarre world you share with your one and only true love
Everyone has their addictions and yours is truly gloves

Funny Thought For Today

If there are any police officers reading this...
    Please don't shave your head...

The reflection blinds the viewers of your dash camera footage when I see it on Cops.

It also looks like the flashing lights are on your head!

Premium Member My Humbug Melts Away

Here we go again,
I’ll have to count to ten,
It’s Christmas time once more,
Christmas songs ‘n every store.

It’s bound to cost a mint
It’s gunna make me skint
And all for just one day
Please make it go away!

The wife’s all in a tizz
I’ve forgotten the Buck’s Fizz
And the Christmas tree’s not right
Not straight when it’s upright.

And the Garland I’ve just bought
She tells me is too short
And the lights are on the blink
Got to find that dodgy link.

The supermarket’s crammed,
The car parks are all jammed,
And the sprouts have gone amiss
Cannot cross them off my list!

But I do this every year
Trying to find the Christmas cheer
It seems a waste of time
But by New Year I’ll be fine.

Then my granddaughter comes knocking
Wants to see her Christmas stocking
Then she reads her Santa’s list
Saying she wants ‘this and this and this!!’

So the humbug inside of me
Melts beside the Christmas tree
As she asks ‘grandad will it snow?’
I say ‘sweetheart let’s hope so!’

Stage Set

Thrusted onto a stage preset.
You look around,
Encompassed by an audience that seem to surround.
A susurration of voices erupt from the darkness.
Whispers of eclectic emotion -
A scene so sharp, so vivid, so real,
It cuts deep.
Leaving a scar that shall last an eternity.

The lights are on you.
You are expected to preform,
Conform to the human norm,
But you are so much more than that!
The audience looks to you,
“It is time to read your lines,” they say.
You look to them, script held high and before your eyes
You rip what is known to be the fabric of time.

A gasp ripples from the crowd,
Silence,
And then a standing ovation.

Inside, Outside

"From Inside..."

There is no “in”
For there is no “out”,
And how can one exist
Without the constant other?
There would be here
If there were there
Or elsewhere
Or anywhere, really.
There is merely existence,
Though it cannot be proven
Without the knowledge
Of its counterpart.
Existence screams in silence
And monsters lurk behind shadows
(But how are there shadows,
When there is no light?)
Waiting,
Waiting,
Always waiting though they know not what for,
For they feast on euphoria
And they’ve never known
A full stomach.
Down here,
They only ever starve.
Perhaps that is why
The monsters are so thin,
So sickly,
So utterly terrifying.
Perhaps they have never been loved,
Perhaps they don’t know how.
Perhaps they chase down happiness,
Just begging for a taste.
And maybe they
Are so starved for love,
Any attention is enough.
So they cause panic
And fear,
And their victims cannot leave,
Brought into a pit
Not of hatred, but
Devoid
Of love,
Deceived.

"From Outside..."

Knowing what lies within
Makes looking outside
Decidedly difficult,
First.
It’s not easy to forget
The monsters that lurk
Behind every available shadow
But
With closed eyes
Pretending is easy
And the lights are on,
Out here.
A new perspective, yes?
Watching the silent walls breathe
From outside,
Rather than in.
The stones are more
An art exhibit,
Where once they seemed like boulders.
The old wooden roof
Is bright,
Vibrant,
A mural of violets and roses
Known formerly to block out sunlight
And keep awful creatures in
It is now an umbrella,
Providing some shade
For when the day grows hot.
Outside, there are flowers
Blooming bright between cracks
In the solid rock wall
But inside, remember,
Moss like slime drips
Black oily ooze--
Drip,
Drip,
Drip,
In the dark depths below.
Keeping aware
Of the horrors inside
Is not a difficult task,
But to let go,
To see the light
And the stones
And the roof
And the flowers,
That is something else entirely.
