Rare Are We

To me it's always been crystal clear
my emerald heart sheds tear after tear

Intense, easy to emote
it's to love I devote

His golden flakes beat in me like needs
I fill my lungs string him in like beads

As rare as four leaf clovers - we are for real
I must bare my heart for him to also feel

the light breeze
   cooled the morning sun
daytrip Venice
            had begun
vantage views
       from a vaporetto
inch-by-inch
 the skyline began to grow

St Marks cameinto view
etched on a sky so blue
tourist scrambled
           from the boat
sensory feelings inside emote

ambling along piazzas wide
campanile renaissance
                a city's pride
byzantine palaces bridge of sighs
facias painted
           in pastel dyes
gothic churches candles ablaze
carvings to draw the gaze
depicted ceilings vivant tableau
  golden bedecked reredos

pizza italiano barolo red wine
relax chat then dine
'neath parasoled
            courtyard shade
as gondaliers anchor
             to quayside arcade

homward along canal grande
below balconies
           overhanging sun-tanned
houses emulsioned terracotta bold
kaleidoscopic memories
                  made manifold

Piano music plays.
Soft notes emote mid air,
like tear-stung doves they fly
in atmosphere of fog.
The clouds, they shroud the sky.

Piano music plays,
the keys, they seize my blues—
the depth of blue, so vast.
Poetic ivories
harassed… recite the past.

Piano music plays.
Dull echoes haunt the halls,
sonatas without soul.
Since wick and flame lost light
my space inside like coal.

Piano music plays,
the white noise like a ghost.
My fluid fingers mourn
in melodies of you —
the thorns on rose reborn.

I Love My Babe

Lacing
My face
With the intoxicating embrace
Of your taste
Knowing
Your mine
Sets shivers
Swimming
Down my spine
Take my time
Let it glow
Before
It shines
I’m blinded
By your grace
Gonna trace
Your lines
Burn
The memory
Into my mind
X
Marks the spot
Of every dirty thought
I’ve got
Of you
Unleash
The beast
For the feast
That is you
Gonna savor
The flavor
Of your favor
Let it linger
Like a singer
Hitting
The last note
Send an emote
Or a text
If you want to know
What comes next
p.s.
Kisses
On your neck

She spoke to me
about the semantics of shame,
the seduction and flame,
the name of the pain,
lunatic loop of lost meaning,
complaining of symptoms remaining
robust and teething
weighing upon me
morning through evening
like a stoney smoke stifling,
misidentifying the madness
of this sadness as inherent illness
primordial and permanent,
the face of Her wisdom
a jewel of enlightenment,
a catharsis burning on the coals
of my ingrown crown,
Her voice vouches for my vim
as she says to me with a cerulean sympathy,
The Mind must make Itself
as a heart must learn to heat the soul,
emote to promote the promise of your pulse,
you are not a puzzle
you are a powerful purpose,
emotions are the lights of your eyes
the colors of your concepts,
the verve of your values,
find no shame from your sensitivity,
make love with your intensity...

all we wanted
was a sneak peek
then lust fangs flaunted
piercing heart, fickle and weak

come back, oh time from your flight
that we may undo our feral past
savage instincts soul’s blight
but destiny’s die was cast

heart filled with remorse
within womb of life we atone
feeling pain pangs borne of force
exchanging roles, reliving horror alone

spherically experiencing heart’s emote
we live and learn to align with love
cleansed soul rides God’s boat
becoming His peace dove

You

Roses are red like the color of my heart.
Violets represent the color of my face when I'm with you.
I know this is a bit cheesy but I...
Will say that you represent Aphrodite.
You're so cute like a kitten sleeping.
Or maybe a box full of puppies?
You make the word "emo" make me think of "emotes" and
The only emote I do is "loving you".
You could cut a C-Section in me and see all the butterflies.
My hands are almost broken from all the roses I picked for you.
The word "LOVE" to me means:
L - I love you , O - I love you , V - I love you , E - I love you
I'm not that creative like a 5 year old but...
You make me think of "Legos".
I can fit all of the pieces to build us together happily ever after!
I want to hug you like how I hug my pillow at night,
And when I fall asleep, I dream of you...
I wish I had more time to name reasons on why I love you,
But the hourglass I have shattered and
It would take me more time to fix everything...
And let's be honest... No one would try to fix that stuff.
You also remind me of a scary roller-coaster.
I'm not saying you're scary but that good feeling people get when it
feels like their soul is being taken, because you take mine away.
I think I'm out of clever ways to say "You are amazing".
Maybe you could change this and help me find more.
I just want you to know that I love you, I love you, I love you.
So, as to what I was saying earlier:
Roses are red, Violets are blue
I Love You.

The path taken ...
                           Authored by Chuck Keys

One day I'll go for a walk and forget to come home
and lose myself among the trees and the gnomes.

I'll be dressed in my walking shorts, shoes and socks
ready to face the unknown world and all of its locks

alone and free, seasoned with age beyond my years afloat
unbridled from people and places and ready to emote.

The path will go straight and sideways, straight and backways
and bend to the left to secret hide-a-ways.

I'll be dressed in my walking shorts, shoes and socks
ready to face the unknown world and all of its locks

Lose myself I will, on purpose with forethought and glee
because that is what makes me, me.

I'Ll Vote My Way, Thanks!

I will not be dismissed as a dunce,
lumped together by Gallup or Luntz.
I will get out and vote
without need to emote
and defy every pollster for once.

The Cat's Meow and Then Some

Mr. Kitty Cat come this way.
Might I beg you please to stay?

So all-fired handsome, fit and strong.
And you've been faithful all along.

Those eyes so green and silky coat.
How you sing out and emote!

Prowling through the dead of night.
Bringing me gifts at morning's light.

You're such a vision to behold.
Always passionate-never cold.

Appreciative of the things I do-
this trait of yours is something new.

I've never had a love so deep.
Hoping you are mine to keep.

But wait-I've had an awful thought.
You've set a trap and now I'm caught.

This love will never come to fruition.
For in the past I had a mission.

Had you neutered to my regret.
When you could have been my best love yet!

Dressing Up

It's always a chore to make...and still,
when Halloween comes, I find the will.

I don't rent or buy costumes you see,
but dress myself up like I want to be.

I don't trick or treat as I am too old,
yet, I do it for the kids coming to my door so bold.

Once I stuffed an old shirt and jeans
With rags and paper and other things.

Then I pinned it to the clothing I wore,
Four arms, four legs...who could want more?

One year I wrapped myself in aluminum foil,
Just to see if some of those kids I could roil.

I wasn't exactly the Tin Man of Oz's fame,
But the neighborhood all thought me quite insane.

Having pinned stuffed animals to my shirt one time
The "stuffed shirt" routine was more than a crime.

I have been hunchbacked and straight laced just for the kids,
Some come to my door, just to see what I did.

Last year I took a soft ball and pinned it atop my shoulder,
No, it wasn't there to look like a boulder.

I put a facemask and hat on it you see,
Two heads were better than one, when the kids looked at me.

I've gone to a party wearing shorts 'neath my overcoat,
But being such a flimsy "Flasher", I could not emote.

So, I took the strobe from my camera and held it inside,
Then, when I opened my coat...FLASH...got everyone wide eyed.

I don't do parties for Halloween any more,
Too much work, passing out candy at the door.

But, I still dress up for the kids to know,
That you don't have to buy a costume when imagination will do.

I will wear some wierd outfit that I have tried to do well,
Then yank open the door screaming..."Who's ringing that bell"?

It is often fun to see the reactions my costumes bring each year,
They generally don't know what awaits them here.

It's only once a year that I go on this binge,
The littlest ones never cease to cringe.

Some will run to their parents standing in the drive,
Wondering if such a creature could be alive.

But they eventually come back to reap their treats.
In spite of my bombastic costumal feats.

So, if you come to my door just beware,
More than a crazy poet, you might find here.

Fairy Tale Flounderings

That steamy summer day
At age fourteen and three months
I stood awaiting the kiss
Of the tall, dark, handsome hunk

My stomach was in knots
As terror snaked up my throat
Would he think it was okay?
Would he, with flowery words, emote?

His luscious lips descended
As I closed unbelieving eyes
A thrill rushed through my body
I was weak from feet to thighs

Then, suddenly, his tongue
Darted out and squished around
In a sloppy and slathering mess
My feet never left the ground

When the “kiss” was over
I couldn’t look at him the same
He was a dog; no longer a boy
And, now, I don’t recall his name

Inspired by John Heck's contest, "Egads, My First Kiss?"

Everything Seen, and Unmade

Let's just emote the dine!

Far to the North, we increase the enshrine,
send our tails to the features-

Whale away with convenience,

And all the while-

No one clocks the mile~

Our time was the picture,
every slogan here today pleases teachers...

Endemic, like what we wanted supplanted eases creature...

Can'T Take Any More

How much longer can this go on?
How much more do I have to take?
One foot in front the other
with never a pause or break.

Relentlessly this pain does grind
I'm weary to the core
I no longer have the strength
to battle one day more.

I know you'd say to not give up
that I should keep on trying
But it's so hard to carry on
when inside you're slowly dying.

So let me just throw in the towel
and for one last time I'll weep
then let my cares just drift away
while I forever sleep.
